It's a matter of entertainment type. We are doing adult comics, some of them featuring sex scenes quite regularly. Making those through comics, subtitles, illustrated text, or with animated parts changes quite a lot the approach for that kind of scenes :

In the subtitled category some will make those moment textless, and focus on the esthetics and erotic aspect of the still images.
Comics makers will most of the time add onomatopoeia, which will suggest ambiance, noise and even movements in succession in that kind of scene.
Illustrated text makers often will keep the esthetics of still images, but add a lot of erotic details through writing style and description.
GIFs makers will on the contrary quite often give up on those, but offer true movement, having visually an intermediate result between their regular story media and the sexual arousal provided by a regular porn video. Technically the exercise is also different, much closer to filming than the others (not to mention looping it adequately afterwards).

So, among storytellers, who does regularly uses GIFs to liven up sex scenes ?

Powo without a doubt, it being one of the most erotic aspect of his stories.
Lady of hats features it almost once per entry.
B0ss's blog does when there are sex scenes on the entry.
Kinguru had entries almost centered on that.

Now, Crw did it once per entry for his first ten chapters. It became quite irregular afterwards, so it could be debated. He's been asked where he prefers being, and seems to like to be categorized as featuring GIF.

Wanobi12. He does indeed some GIFs, sometimes for sex scenes, sometimes for special effects. Sometimes not at all. There wasn't in his first entry (Scorned Woman), there isn't in his last (Nytraste). You may not remember about his first blog, Kert rat ol' boy, but he made a full storyline with Brynn which as far as I recall was pure comics. To me he is before all a storyteller and a photoshopper. So you know upon opening a new entry of his this will be a comic, that the story will be good and often dark humored, and that there will be photoshopped effets. But there is no consistency about those effects being put to gifs or not. So to me, he's a comics maker.

Truth be told, there are 42 blogs featured in this small library. So in my eyes, more categories means easier navigation, and better highlighting. I may have to find other/complementary sorting solutions if the numbers increase significantly, but at the moment the debatable GIF category was one way to aerate a bit the subtitled and comics sections.

You might be alluding to Ther1pper and DJregs.

Ther1pper has vol. 2 with 15 entries, some of them being comics. And vol. 1 with 152 entries, some of them being extremely impressive (Sorrow Tanto is only one example), 100% subtitle while vol. 2 main storyline hasn't even started yet. Should I label his work as comics, and put a little message "warning, the first 152 entries are subtitled" ?
Same for DJregs, 7-6 comic entries on 56 total with some of those being intermediates between comics and integrated subtitles. I am aware of him turning towards comics, as I like his work just as much as my associate does, but the moment where I'll can safely label his blog as mostly comics seems quite delicate to choose.

They just need to get those ratios up and they can move from the virgin subtitles section to the Chad comics section ?

Best way would be to ask them though. I did ask Crw and he mentioned wanting to make gifs regularly again. As for Wanobi, sadly he seems to be afk at the moment. :classic_angel:

Well if anything it was the opposite. To me they both make comics, the presence or absence of GIFs doesn't change that. Ultimately it is your list though so of course you're free to group it however you want I just personally don't find the presence of GIFs to be enough to reclassify a comic as something else.

Looking at it as a reader potentially discovering new blogs I think a gauge of tonality (comedic or serious or a blend) or genre (horror, action focused or dialogue focused, etc.) would be a more useful jumping off point if adding more sections to "spread the wealth" is a goal.

Hmm. I could indeed add subcategories, though if I did I would rather follow the genres of a classical library (action, comedy, adventure, slice of life for example). That's a good suggestion, I'll consider it.

Jokes aside, it wasn't mentioned because I ~~forgot and later~~ figured the users would see the author upon clicking the blogs links. But no reason I shouldn't fix that indeed. Plus the categories could use some redesign, as discussed above.

This type of change could be implemented with the next library (entry) update.

Also you wrote the name of my blog wrong^^, but I appreciate the image change of my entry... anyway.

I followed the discussion above a bit and no matter how you sort these blogs, some people will always be unhappy or feel left out... I think maybe besides gif the above categorize make sense. Especially something like pure writing that just happens to have a smaller audience, or for comics that do have a larger audience.

Best would be a tag based system, but that is impossible for you to implement.

Anyway, just do what feels right to you. You do the work here, you decide.

Well I may implement subcategories by genre in such larger categories, or turn the actual categories in subcategories of those genres. But people could still disagree with the genres or the order of the genres... Anyway, there seemed to be a consensus one the GIFS category not being justified ; and with the growing numbers of blogs I would have to undergo some redesign eventually. So the next update might be the right moment for that. :classic_smile:

To all the authors using the follow function !

There's been a bug regarding the "follow entry" function : for entries older than a handful of months, this amount has been reduced to zero, which means that previously ticking the box on your own entries to be automatically informed about new comments didn't work anymore.

~~It seems today's forum update fixed that issue, so if you used that to avoid manually watching for changes, you can re-follow your old entries again.~~ :classic_angel:

It's no big deal, but until the problem is solved it might be better to be aware of the the malfunction (otherwise you might miss some feedback). So I thought I'd share it with the authors having old entries and who seemed to be watchful about their blogs' maintenance. The more you know...

That's possible, they do mention having fixed notification sending since 4.4.4 version of IPBoard (latest is 4.4.7). Yet I'm not sure on how to ascertain that as I haven't found the place the forum mentions it's current version.

EDIT : about the follow entry bug, it seems it doesn't affects all blogs, but contrary to what I thought the bug isn't fixed. I reported it (as well as the follow blog bugs for readers), but we'll have to watch for changes in our blogs pages (the blue dot next to the clickable links) until it's fixed. :confused:

Hey guys ! It's been three months, and a handful of entries (a review, a restoration, and a Chronicle's entry), so it was time for a library update !

I - LIBRARY OVERHAUL

This is a big change, comparable to the library becoming a blog of its own. The GIFS category has been deleted in favor of genres subcategories. Those arent perfect, but were thought to be representative of LL's storyblogs main strong-suits. And as just putting a story in a writing genre can't really sum most of them, and as I wanted to still flag the gifs feature, I added a flag system to compensate the flaws of the sorting.

This also means that some blogs that were mixed with others aren't anymore, while some that weren't are now more in direct relation with others. So I had to do some hidden appraisal to sort them (Perversity in particular, felt very close to Mereth Chronicles), and that isn't perfect either.

I'm also doing some experiments for the layout for references featuring multiple blogs, but that's experimental.

So, feel free to discuss if you felt the tags, sorting, and categories of your blog do not fit. I am open to discussion.

II - BUG FIXING

That bug in fact wasn't fixed : the affected entries still returned to 0 followers after some time. Hopefully, I've found a work-around which gives more durable results :

Edit an entry.
Do a change (add or delete a space somewhere).
Save your changes.
You and others users can now follow your entry normally again.

If think it was due to a change in the way they stored the followers in entries. That explains why some entries (constantly updated ones, such as Alter's) weren't affected : the fix was done unknowingly.

III - BLOG'S STATUS

@Lukaslegend : your blog is still like 10% of what it was before. If you have some time in the future, think to it !
@ongwk733 : I already mentioned some of your entries being in Imgur being suboptimal. Now, Imgur does add a warning for content flagged as adult, and non registered users can't bypass it. And so some entries (like Tammie on the Job 2) are now inaccessible.
@Yosih : same thing, still a lot of broken entries, or of Imgur ones. If you've got some time after your next publication, think to them !
@hellonow : if ever you've got vacations, think to your blog ! ^^

@Reginald_001 : I was going to feature your story about Caroline, which felt like a great read. But I had a surprise in the attempt....

@The Gauntman : thanks for the restorations you did last time, those entries were great !
