The Story of the Red Witch
Chapter One: Welcome to the Last Day of Your Life
Groans echoed around the chamber as its inhabitant began to stir from their slumber.
The woman, completely without a stitch, was without her bearings. A stranger in a foreign setting.
???: Gods... What happened? Last thing I remember, me, Jensgr and the others were dealing with a group of bandits...
???: How did I go from that, to... this?
The woman, still sore for her prior ordeals, got up and looked about the room for any signs of where she might be.
Nothing made sense. Last she knew she was in the Rift, but according to her surroundings she was clearly in some Dwarven Ruin of some sort.
???: Was I captured? But none of the bandits had the means of detaining me... Maybe it was something else? I don't remember any sort of scuffle either...
Try as she might, the woman couldn't figure out how she had gotten here and it began to frustrate her to no end.
???: Staying in here's getting me nowhere. As Jensgr always said, "One is only lost if they wish never to be found." Let's see what lies beyond this door.
As soon as the woman exited the room, she was met with sight she hadn't prepared herself for.
A Dwarven mechanism of some sort was there waiting on her. It's presence seemed eerie to her. Why would one of these things be waiting outside this room?
Automation: -BZZT- HUMANOID MAGE: GIVEN NAME LIRI, RETURN TO YOUR QUARTERS! -BZZT-
Immediately Liri's worries turned into curiosity as all sorts of questions came flying into her head. However, she was a creature of habit and threw most of them to the wayside.
Liri: Oh wow! This thing can talk? And it even know my name! Kind of amazing the things the Dwemer could come up with way back when. It's like... magic, so to speak.
Liri: But, going back inside? I'm... not quite into close spaces. I'm kind of a free spirit. Can't have anything shackling me down like rules and regulations.
Automation: -BZZT- -BZZT- RETURN TO YOUR QUARTERS IMMEDIATELY! FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE INITIATION OF COMBAT PROTOCOL 49426: EXTERMINATION.
Liri: Oh? So the little rust bucket thinks it can hang with me?
Liri: Bring it on! I needed a good stretch anyway.
And so Liri started off with a massive shock base spell intending to fry the automation. However the Dwarven mechanism was more resilient than she had imagined.
Liri: Amazing! Utterly amazing! I've just got to get one of these to test out their durability. Most of my opponents would be ash by now.
Liri continued to toy with the automation, keeping her distance while firing wave after wave of magic at it. It was fun at first, but her excitement waned when she figured its attack paradigm out.
Liri: *sigh* It was fun. But like all the others, you're just not a match for me... Oh well.
Liri turned from the automation and discharged a beam of lighting from her palm.
She couldn't see it, but she could hear the automation tearing apart from her magic. Seemingly, she had done away with any magical resistances it once had.
Liri continued to unleash surge after surge of lightning onto the automation until it's creaks, rattling, and whistles were put to rest.
She went over to its remains, and was pleasantly surprised when she saw that it was still in tact after everything she threw at it.
Liri: Yup! I've DEFINITELY got to get my hands on one of these things!
After Liri was done being in awe of the damage the automation had taken from her, she looked around and it finally had sunk in to her what had happened.
Liri: Blackreach? My mates wouldn't have brought me here, and I certainly wouldn't have came her willingly which means... someone actually abducted me?
Liri: That means... that means... I finally found it! The person that i might be able to call my equal. Ha! Who would have ever thought?
After letting her words finally convince her, Liri set off in search for whoever had brought her there. Hopefully they could provide answers... and a challenge.
While looking for her "equal", Liri came upon a swarm of Chaurus that seemed to want to do more than unpleasant things to her.
However, she easily was able to dispatch them. In fact, the Chaurus never even came close to landing a scratch on her.
Liri: You're trying to impregnate me? Me!? I'll fry you...
Liri: I'll make you wish that you were never hatched!!!
Soon after dispatching the Chaurus, she was caught unawares by a crystalline guardian. But it didn't take long for her to get the upper hand and have the monster reeling.
As the crystiline beast melted from her flames, Liri's thoughts once again turned to her captor. Whoever it was had to be strong, for she was planning to make them share the beast's fate.
Once she felled the crystalline beast, Liri continued her search until she came upon another Dwarven Automation. This one however was at least three times her size and just as menacing.
However, she was already prepared. Using her knowledge from last time, Liri blasted the automation with wave after wave of lightning.
However, just like the previous automation, this giant seemed to have a higher than normal resistance to magic. This left Liri to wonder what, if any, damage had the automation incurred?
But it mattered not. Liri continued to blast the mechanism with lightning under the assumption that just like the smaller one she might be able to cause it to burn out.
However, seeing as her spells were seeming less and less effective, Liri decided to go back to the well again and shoot not one, but two beams of lightning at the giant.
Liri: HAHA!! How do you like this you uselessly big piece of junk!
Liri knew that was it, that she had won. However, when the dust cleared the giant stood there looking unfazed at her "feeble" attack.
Liri: No... no way... that should have incinerated it...
The metal giant lumbered over to her and looked down on her as if it knew that this was it. Its dominating presence sending chills throughout Liri's body.
But it wasn't fear Liri felt. Looking up at the metal beast, all she felt was annoyed. Like she was being played with. And soon she was overcome with a wrath the likes of which she'd never known...
Liri: You... Who in Oblivion do you think you are looking down at me like that! You think that's all I got? Well you're wrong! You're DEAD WRONG!!!
Liri took a few steps back and began gathering up her magicka. The spell, whatever it was, was going to be uncontrollable, but Liri didn't care. As long as the giant died Nirn could go to Oblivion.
Liri: How... sweet... you actually let me... charge this up? You'll be wishing you hadn't, you overgrown pile of rubbish!!
Liri unleashed her magicka all at once and... nothing happened. Nothing that is until storm clouds had suddenly gathered and numerous lightning bolts struck the giant.
Liri: HAHAHAHAHAAHAAAA!! You thought I was weak! You thought I couldn't damage you!
Liri: Well you're wrong!! There won't be anything left of you, you rust bucket! And do you know why? It's because THIS is real power! Unadulterated, unshackled power!
Lightning continued to rain down on the automation but that wasn't its only focus. All throughout Blackreach creatures were being incinerated by the relentless spell that Liri had unleashed.
When the smoke before her cleared, Liri couldn't contain her laughter as that giant had been reduced to mere ashes before her might.
Liri's maniacal laughter boomed throughout Blackreach and fueled her spell as the storm continued to rage on, tearing Blackreach apart...
When the spell finally dissipated, Blackreach fell eeriely silent. Drained of her magicka and stamina, Liri staggered forward as she yet again set out to find her "equal".
Liri: Haaa.... haaaa..... That was intense... Now that it's gone, I kind of miss it... Anyway, if I can just find a place to rest--
Suddenly Liri was struck from behind with a force that sent her flying through the air. How did someone sneak up on her? She didn't hear or sense anything nearby...
Liri crashed face down into the dirt and laid there motionless as the feeling left from her.
???: Yes, this one will do. She'll fit quite nicely into my plans...
The shadowy figure, retrieved Liri into its arms and then without uttering another word carried her away...
???: Hmmm? Ah! It seems like Master's pet has finally decided to join the living.
Liri: ...Huh? W-who are you? Where am I?
???: Who I am you'll find out. Where you are? You're at Master's whim. He could have killed you, turned you, but you like others before you were spared.
Liri: ARGH! Get me out of these things! I'm no one's pet! No one's slave!
???: So you say, but aren't you the one naked and chained to a wall in the back of a cellar? Or maybe it's some other red headed bimbo.
Liri: ...Chose your words carefully, wench. I've long since run out of patience, and am just waiting for a reason to break something apart.
???: Oh I know all about you and your little magic tricks, Liri. You'll find that they don't work half as good as you'd expect here. Master's made sure of it.
???: Anyway, now that you're awake I can finally make better use of my time. So I bid you farewell, and welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.
Liri struggled against her restraints and cried until her lungs collasped as the maid(?) shut the door behind her. Eventually her resistance came to an end. She was trapped, and didn't see a way out..
