What an entry! I found the duel to be very well done. No surprise there, I suppose.

The choice of the "random" Baroness came abit out of the blue, though. But I guess, you can not introduce all relevant characters ahead of time. So, well-known and skilled warrior Thomas vs. unknown Baroness it had to be. Perhaps, we will hear abit more about her later. And find out, why the queen chose her for the execution...  I mean: duel.

 

Speaking of Isabella: Something tells me, that she could absolutely crush all of the gathered Lords and Ladies in her underwear without breaking a sweat. A beautiful beast, indeed.

 

Also: Bye-Bye Vasil. You had to be the scapegoat in Lenora's stead. I suppose, you were not sexy enough for Harkon's tastes. With or without a dress. And you lend money to "the realm". Which is now repaid in full, no doubt. All of this shows yet again, that no good deed ever goes unpunished. Even in a vampire kingdom. Come to think of it: Now I am really curious, as to what was supposed to be Vasil's "reward" for supporting Lenora's scheme. He was already a count, so more lands/higher ranking title would not have been for her to bestow on him. Unless her becoming countess was merely the first step of the plan. Hmmm...

Aside from that, I do suspect, that Lenora would have preferred a quick death at the queen's hand, rather than having to face, whatever Harkon has in store for her.

Oh, and congratulations to the soon-to-be, happy (?) couple. For them, this was certainly an evening to remember.

 

Overall, many interesting developments in the realm of Blood and Pleasure. Looking very much forward to the next part.?

So I guess Lenora's real punishment is to be Harkon's slave and Baroness Jarosova was to be made an example of. Two birds with one stone for execution. Two sent to Molag Bal for punishment for all eternity and one sent to Harkon for however long he lasts.  And yes... Good Work.

Quite the thrilling episode indeed ! I did appreciate how you introduced multiple twists on what was supposed to be a straight-forward execution of Lenora, and how you went outside of your comfort zone with the duel. Overall, this one was quite dynamic, and featured quite the suspense. However, though they're probably not as needed as what other authors could do, the lack of onomatopoeia or even just graphical movement indicators (whether they're comic styled or not) definitely hinders the readability of the action, since you can't both explicit the action by breaking it down in smaller vignettes, and emphasize it simultaneously.
Now, back on what you're the most experimented at, it was a pleasure to see the queen put her own unforgiving schemes in action, and remind everyone who's in charge, and at what point she mastered those games of power. Great scenario in other words, and great screenarchery all along. ?

I do really love how Vasili fate turned, it was really well showd whis word is final.
And the duel sequence were really impressive in turms of all this classy poses and ol' fashion duel moves.

I tend to agree a little bit, it's certainly clearer with visual indicators, but I still won't add them... for reasons.

I'm sure Thomas will be fine once he drinks enough blood  , like HM said.

Also it's not that obvious that Thomas would win (kinda cause plot armor, but I was trying to show that it could go either way). The queen was teaching both of them a lesson, but of course if her candidate would win she'd also be able to reverse the judgement.

Nora will not becoming Queen within the next 2000 years. She's way to young for that. She'd never be able to keep the power even if she'd somehow become queen.

Are you sure, this is the only reason? Because, if Nora were supposed to become Queen, you would have to continue writing new chapters for her story for the next 2000 years as well. Showing us in great detail, how she plots, schemes, fucks and finagles her way to the very top. The occasional setback a la Athar in Hammerfell included. Which, all things considered, may or may not be abit much to ask. ?

So, just admit it. It's ok. You don't want to commit to writing this ONE story for the next couple of millenia. I understand. Also: even Bethesda should not require quite such a long time, to come up with the next wortwhile thing. ?

Hmmm... In that case, I could certainly live with the explanation, that Vasil, may old Molag be merciful upon his butt, acted just a hint irrational and emotional here. Meaning: For whatever reason Lenora was his personal "Siren" that he simply could not resist. Given how extreme vampires in your setting can act, when they are blood/sex-crazed, I would not consider this scenario to be too outlandish. So, unless there will be another explanation in a future chapter, this is what my head-canon will be.

That being said, Alter, this was a wonderful entry but at the same time it was so, SOOOO messed up. ? At first glance the actions of Queen Isabella seem almost like madness since practically everyone begged her not to go through with it.  But I am going to guess she's playing her own game here and it feels like Harkon is a part of it as well.  With the death of Vasil (I'm still sad about that as I really liked him as a character ?), his land is "temporarily" being transferred to Harkon while the land of Count Gottfried goes to Serana (and queen's son).  Since Serana is Harkon's daughter, technically he just gained two more counties to rule or at least have influence over. Plus it looks like Isabella really wanted to get rid of Vasil, perhaps seeing him as a loose end (since he helped her get the throne) or as a potential threat. ? It's also possible that there might be something among Vasil's possessions that Isabella wanted and now they all conveniently go to the crown. 

 

So much intrigue! So many twists!  You did a great job with the writing here! I absolutely love it! ?

 

That dueling scene must've taken you ages. I found it to be both suspenseful and action-packed even without the onomatopoeia.  By the way, how did you achieve the sparks effect? Is it done in game or added later?

Alter is the only one who really knows, but I'd tend towards the second hypothesis. Having Vasil weakened by a plot she hadn't agreed with placed him both in position to be punished, and to have his possessions seized. I see the queen as an opportunist here. With the exception of the Duchess, who is loyal to her, and of Harkon (who is obviously better interested in tagging along), there is no vampire here that could even hope to be a threat to her.

 

Actually I think she could only be taken down either by poisoning (unlikely but not impossible), or by several powerful/specialized individuals ganging up on her. Kinda like the Dawnguard commando who took down Harkon in other timelines. In a way, there are several fictions (VanHellsing Ultimate, Castelvania) where it was believed the most powerful vampire would require the combined effort of a team involving at least a human, and some non human to be taken down.

Yet, the Serana of this universe does not seem the type to be of any help to that kind of team ; and we have yet to see any powerful mortal in OfBlood&Pleasure. So IMO the queen can feel comfortable for a moment. ^^

 

Now, regarding the background aspect, I find that Vasil (a 1200 years old vampire) to have helped a 2500 years old one get on the throne a bit inconsistent. Because either he was too young to be of any assistance to a 10x year old vampire ; either too late to help once arriving himself in place. Yet, that's minor, and could be gotten around. ?

And this version of Vasil that I killed in the end with all the riches was inspired by a conversation we had a couple of years back, where, I think, you suggested that he could be very wealthy. 

Isabella is mostly looking to clear the financial dept. the realm has with Vasil.

The sparks are ingame coming from a grindstone that I always removed before taking the screenshot^^

Sorry for the late replies, but Loverslab was crazy slow the last week and I could barely load anything... About the Vasil helping Isabella thing, even though Isabella is one of the oldest (and most powerful) vampires alive she was not always queen. I only hinted at this during the Hammerfell storyline, but but Isabella used to be married to the former king of the realm (who was also pure blood). The idea is, that he was more like your typical, very powerful vampire tyrant king who had many enemies. 

Isabella as his wife and as a very skillful diplomat secretly crafted an alliance of various powerful figures of the realm (including, Harkon, Diana and Ahtar's father) to overthrow the guy and his henchmen and make herself queen of the realm. She herself killed the king personally (probably in good Blood and Pleasure fashion in bed), but for a successful coup you need to do more than just killing the king.

That was around the time Nora was born so roughly 400 years ago.

As a consequence of this, her other pure blood helpers Harkon, Diana each got one of the duchies of the realm (Skyrim, Hammerfell) whereas she became queen (and duke of High Rock).

This division caused/fueled some of the conflicts presented in the Hammerfell storyline as Ahtar's father had hoped to become Duke of Hammerfell himself even though he's not pure blood himself and Diana is lacking support of the old Hammerfell vampire bloodlines. 

Anyways... somewhere in there is the support of Vasil as part of her alliance. Even though they are all immortal they still like money^^ and Vasil can help with that, even though he was around 800 years old at the time.

Serana in my story is a bit of a problem, cause on one hand she is pure blood, which would make her one of the most powerful figures in the realm... though the way she's presented ingame she's just a little girl and I don't know what to do with her.

In this entry we learned, that her and the son of Isabelle are betrothed, which strengthens the alliance between Isabella and Harkon (in good feudal fashion).

Thank you! See some of the explanation I have given above... and you are right, Isabelle, Harkon and Isabelle are the only known pure bloods left and they are the most powerful figures of the realm. Also both Isabelle and Harkon profit by giving the County of Gottfried to their children.

Vasil was never really a counter weight against Harkon, he's too young and he also supported Harkon in the recent story. The only real counterweight are the other Dukes, Diana and Isabella, but if all of them agree on something there is little the average vampire can do against that^^

You know, if you take the red petal mesh and rotate it 90degrees, you can make it look like the red petals are being kicked up during the fight!
