Debating on upgrading to AE from a heavily modded SE?

I am currently running a heavily modded (almost 350 mods) Skyrim SE. I was debating on upgrading to AE. Have most of the mods been updated?  Just looking for opinions and on how stable AE is. Thanks for any help.

Do it

No seriously don't.. You will just become another thread in support ? And as far as i looked there is not a single thing worth the trouble

This is something you need to check for yourself. No one else is going to have your exact same almost 350 mods setup.

On top of that I'd ask what do you gain from updating?

SE to AE i have been try Upgrade to AE but i need to reverse back to SE (due to some mod not compatible to AE)
but if you don't care that some mod that not compatible then you good to go

Only 2 mods I can't use on AE, that I'm highly disappointed with is
Immersive First Person
and Better Stealing
Additionally, I've tried SE and it was all broken, idk if it was something I did, or poor deductive reasoning. But since then
just been sticking to AE, as it hasn't ever crashed on me despite the amount of mods I have.
Also just found out recently AE adds a whole bunch of new artifacts and lore items.
I think the more people start switching to AE, the more we're likely to finally see these mods that are deemed "impossible" to port, being ported.

If you are an American it will probably be simpler and less painful to get your firearm of choice and shoot yourself in the foot.

On a more serious note, the question you should ask is what will AE bring that you do not already have?

Unless you like supporting paid mods, I'd leave it the fuck alone. LE or SE with a plethora of free, better made mods should be all you need. Tired of your mod loadout? Try another setup/profile in your MM. The way I kind of keep the game fresh is to use AltStart and explore places I haven't before. Beyond Skyrim Bruma can be a fun start as well as any other DLC sized mod with a ASLAL patch. So many things you can do with this game to keep it fresh. Watch some vids to see what catches your eye.

Better yet, learn how to do some simple modding. Hell that's all some ppl spend their time doing. I spend about half my time modding and the rest playing.

Tempting as it may be to hit a bandit to death with a fishing rod ?

Not really that good of a reason to update and search through your provided links and every possible thread about AE to get the same mods to work , i already have working ?

Don't do it.  At least not yet, and as far as I can tell probably not in the near (or even far) future.  The modding community is moving on, a LOT of mods will never be upgraded to AE.  AE itself brings almost NOTHING worthwhile to the party, it might be a good move for console players who are hamstrung as far as modding goes, but for PC players it's NOT worth the effort.  If you REALLY want some of the features of AE then just install all the creation club mods they used and you are basically good to go.  On that note, one of the CC mods is for "survival mode"... Frostfall does it way better and is more compatible with just about everything.  Or more accurately more mods are compatible with Frostfall than they are with the CC survival mod.

As others have mentioned, what exactly in AE are you wanting that is not in SE?  LE to SE was a no brainer, it's way more stable and x64, meaning less crashes due to memory etc.  so it was WAY more stable.  SE to AE..... is Bethesda making more money from an old game instead of writing the next one.

Go \Data\skse\plugins and look to see what mods you have that have .dll files, if you can find a AE version of every one of those then in theory AE should work fine for you

That said (and as others have pointed out) what does having AE give you that SE doesn't if you already have a stable game with 350 mods?

Any performance gain from it being done in a more recent visual studio (which is why it breaks stuff) wouldn't be noticable i'd have thought if your already running that many mods without performance issues

One of the problems with running older versions is that the maker of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch removed all earlier versions of his mod from the Nexus and is trolling anyone in the comments who suggests playing any version other than the latest AE build (saying things like "Why would you do that?" "Who does that?" "Play the latest build like everyone else" etc etc also saying no one has the rights to upload it anywhere)

So if you aim on playing 1.5.97, you need to find a way to trace back a working USSEP for that version. Doable, but annoying.

I'm (just starting) to use AE, with 206 mods.  There are only a few mods that I personally might have used that haven't been updated -- that is, the breakage between SE and AE doesn't seem to me to be particularly severe -- most mods don't use DLLs -- and to be mostly handled at this point by mod authors, though I'm sure that it was obnoxious a while back.

Two mods that I'd been using in SE that aren't available in AE as of this writing:

AddMenuItem seems to be a popular mod on Nexus, and as of this writing, that hasn't been updated, and there is speculation on Nexus that it won't be updated.  There are apparently some alternative mods.  I normally use the console to spawn items, so this wasn't much of an issue for me.

Notification Log SSE, another Nexus mod, is something that I liked, but there haven't been updates for a while, and I would presume that no AE update will be forthcoming.

Many of the mods which have not been updated have been replaced by other similar mods. You can check the compatibility thread to see which one is what. As for AddItemMenu, there is QUI now, a mod which does not even require a mod slot.

Most mods are compatible at this point. I also run a heavily modded setup and didn't want to switch. A few weeks ago, I was forced to (lost my old installation), and I can safely say that 99.999% of my mods are either working in AE, or have an equivalent AE replacement. This includes normal Nexus mods as well as the LL stuff.

Though I still need not to re-install USSEP (because I do not up-date runtime to 1.6+) but keep to use 1.5.97 and all compatible mod. (and back up full zip of mods and game directory)

but I still keep this link.   I suppose mod author do not have decision to remove Nexus keep archived version.

I know it can be a double-edged sword, but when mod authors are being unnecessarily obtuse, this new feature by Nexus to never actually be able to fully delete your own mods sure can be a blessing sometimes, as proven by this working link to an earlier build of the USSEP.

I actually do not know  nexus rule at all ^^;  But I confirmed at least (at current), this link can download (if you log in and not change page), the version for I.5.97 runtime.

I just hope nexus keep it for user (include me), who still prefer to play with 1.5.97

I just have it archived in my pc together with many mods i feared authors would put down before the rule change. So far it only happened to a very small number of them. Nobody takes Shindara away from me ?I still hope Nachtdaemerung comes around and uploads all of their mods somewhere.

I wouldn't. The content isn't that good; not like there's new questlines or anything big like that. Ten years ago that $20 got me dragonborn or dawnguard. Now it gets you fishing, and encourages anti-consumer, anti-modding behavior from bethesda. Not worth it, especially if you're heavily modded. If this update came from anyone other than bethesda, like if it were some nexus developed paid-mod collection, everyone would laugh at them for it.

Such a concise answer. The day I accidentally let Steam update my Skyrim is the day I drop Skyrim.

You don't have to. I had to make a complete reinstall recently, the downgrade patcher on nexus works still :)
