How to Handle Children Growing up Immersively

  1. 1. In having children in Skyrim, how do you/how do you think I should explain babies instantly becoming small children? Keep in mind, some quests are time-sensitive.

    • Use a time skip.

    • Children instantly grow up due to some form of magic specific to this case.

    • That's just how it works in Nirn. Nobody talks about it because they all accept it as fact and it's not strange to them.

I was thinking about this:  how do you explain children instantly growing up using Fertility Mode?  I was thinking of a few options.  The first is just I use a time skip.  Everybody putting everything on hold might not make a lot of sense.  Then again, this is around the time when I go to the College of Winterhold.  If anything, it could be MORE immersive if I spent a few years there learning magic instead of how fast the Main Character of this game picks up magic (by just eating spell tomes).

Could be... demon children mature really fast.  Or some kind of magic happens.  /shrug

Or, could be that children just grow up really fast to a certain point in Nirn.  Nobody talks about it because everybody accepts this as a true fact and it's not weird.  (This seems a little too weird for me).

Keep in mind, I might decide to take whatever option to explain this, some combination or something completely different!

In your Collegiate case, I'd go with

Maybe that was where you learned how to eat spell tomes to gain the spell? ?

If your is of a long-living race like the Dunmer, go for time-skip.

If it is a normal human, skipping 10 years or more (ingame children 9 - 13 years old?) might have a bad taste for some gamers.

Using the 3rd option would be lazy writing.

I see a few ways how this could be done:

1. Tell the story until time of birth. End one story arc there, with your pc retiring. Skip x years, after which plot happens and Destana get's back into her old life.

2. Like the first, just that Mini-Destana get's kidnapped right after birth. And now the quest is to find her again.

3. Move Mini-Destana into some magical realm after being born (for safety?), where time flows differently i.e. 1 month in nirn = 1 year there. Since your pc is already involved with a deadric prince, I would consider this to be not too outlandish.

If we go with what's suggested at the end of the last post, as to who the father is, then all bets are off anyway, as to how long your pc's child would need to grow up.

Just my two cents.
