Okay, so to ascertain this I just re-uploaded one of my menus to another image host. And... it works wonders :

So it was Postimage only displaying resized miniatures alright. That's why entering the url before accessing their site didn't let access to the fullsize images, which could be only viewed after having accessed to their site. The "random" part was due to some unresized images still being in the cache, or having been previously forcefully resized via LL's forum engine, that's all.

I'm awaiting for their answer (monday latest deadline) to update my image tutorial about this. I'll then warn the others authors who might still consider fixing their Postimage links (even though I already mentionned that it was a bad idea for adult blogs, it now also becomes a bad one for any kind of blog) with a message here as well. :classic_smile:

And afterwards I'll re-upload the images for my Library and my Bookshelf. Again. death-depression-hung-limit-Favim.com-1409435.gif

All thou who use Postimage, hear ye !

Postimage resize/miniatures issue

So, since approximately the 20th of June 2018, it was discovered that all the images hosted by Postimage are only displayed as thumbnails, even those coded as fullsize direct link images. As a result, all the images externally used in blogs suddenly turned into miniatures.

It's however still possible to access the fullsize images though Postimage's site. And so, as those images are downloaded in your browser's cache, until this cache is cleared those images would still be displayed fullsize (though only for the ones having viewed it on Postimage directly). Which led authors not to notice it immediately, or to wonder if that was a random bug. Changing of imagehost solved the issue, proving that the cause was on Postimage's side, once again.

The suspected reason behind this might be Postimage wanting to limit regular accounts in order to promote future premium/pro accounts, or just wanting to force users to access their site (and monetize the views). They didn't answer my questions, but I found this in their FAQ :

I have selected the "Do not resize" option, but the images I'm uploading have shrinked anyway!

You can open an image's page and click the Zoom button or the image itself to view it in full resolution. After that, if you need the direct link to the image in the original resolution, you can right-click the zoomed-in image and select "Copy image address". Convenient access to the full-res image URLs from the code box is not provided at this time, but will be likely implemented in the future as an option for Pro accounts.

This is another proof (if needed), that Postimage is NOT a good idea to host adult content. And to me not as an image host at all, as the registry lock issue already forced us to change all our images's urls which is taxing ; but also somewhat reduced the quality of displayed JPEGS to save bandwith ; and now this.

So if you were considering fixing/updating your blogs ( :classic_angel: ), you've got another reason to re-upload your images to another image host. And this time, I do advise you to do it on one allowing adult content ; and not repeatedly challenging our patience with issues (Pixxxels likely shares the same issues) :

See the positive side of things :

— Plus now you've got the opportunity to recompress your images in jpegs of better quality, set feature images, and thus improve your blog into something clean and new while slowly fixing it. You'll see it's gratifying in the end, and goes a lot faster than if you hadn't the screens already. :classic_smile:

HEY guys ! For once, I've got good news !

As you may know, last week all images hotlinked by postimage forcefully turned into miniatures.

This night, I did receive an answer from Postimage. They didn't answered my first ones though, but their reaction made-up for it :

So Postimage just unblocked Loverlab again !

That means that for those of us that did start to fix their image links from postimage.org to postimage.cc ( @Collygon) ; it wasn't all for naught, and their fixed entries are back with fullsize images. :classic_cool:

And for those who still haven't fixed their links, but who still use postimage, it means their most recent entries ( @Jexsam, @The Gauntman, @Lukaslegend, @noobshi, @ther1pper), are back, though the elder ones still are affected by the .org broken links issue.

So now that postimage is an option again, what to do ?

Well it's up to each one to choose. I think for those of us that feature heavy to medium sex scenes in their blogs ( @Agent Tex) Postimage still isn't safe as they don't allow explicit content, so it's still a better choice to move the images altogether to an imagehost allowing adult content. For those who bear light to null sexual content (such as Collygon's Frost of Age), their entries not containing full frontal nudity are mostly safe. So, either just fixing the postimage links + only uploading sex images to another host ; or moving entirely to another host would do. That also means that Pixxxels is an option again for adult content.

As storytellers' club founder and helper about this resize issue, I'd like to inform @Alter Native as well.

For those of you that were curious to see the mail that made Postimage change their mind about it, it's below. Basically I just explain them that they shot themselves in the foot for blog users. ^^

It's been approximately five years that I've been using postimage. I did appreciate the interface, and prior to the birth of Pixxxels,
the possibility to also upload adult content, even though I did not use postimage for that sort of images once I saw the message it
wasn't accepted anymore. I'm a member of a community of bloggers. As such :
- we first had to undergo an extensive update from our image's url 'cause of postimage.org being locked
- then we discovered that postimage's hosted images were displayed in a more compressed version than the original
- and then finally, you took the decision to only allow miniatures to be hotlinked

Our guess, is that you want to force viewers to view the image on your site, so that you can either advertise it or prepare some kind
of "pro/premium" accounts.

I wasn't hostile to postimage, I even donated when you were down, right before Pixxels came out. However I wanted you to know,
that such multiple drawbacks do make users to change their mind. And as miniatures just can't be used in images blog, that last
drawback terminated my loyalty to postimage, and with mine all those in similar position in my community.

You probably don't care about it, but the important part of this message is this : you just shot yourself in the foot.
If you wanted to monetize more, maybe adding ads on the upload pages, and suggesting in priority fullscreen yet clickable links to
your site would've done it. That would've been better than to make your services unusable for a significant part of your users, without
prior explanation, for the third time in a row. And thus force them to move to imagehosts that might have a more viable economical model
than yours.

Anyway, I'm just glad I brought good news for once. They were unexpected (it was intended to be a farewell message). But that doesn't wash away everything, I will watch them for some time before fully trusting them again.

About the Librarian avatar, it's funny but if Yoshi is my main historical avatar, I also used the blue pony I sometimes do post here on other sites... just transformed into a Starcraft marine version, which armor happens to look very much alike to the one of your Librarian. ^^

True. You're too impulsive, Tex ; yet I do believe one can work on managing that.

However, I think that issue might bring some good to your work in the future. Your blog is M to H rated in terms of sexual content, so it was still very unsafe for it to be hosted on Postimage. So re-uploading it on an image host allowing adult content will make your work more durable in the future. Also, it's an opportunity for you to try inbuilt subtitles, to shorten some lengthy passages, and to choose more quality when compressing your images. So in the end, it could be the beginning of something good happening to Child of Darkness. See it that way, Tex, it'll give you courage and more satisfaction in the end. :classic_wink:

Thanks Alter Native. Well that turned out unexpectedly well ; dunno for sure what made them change their minds this time. I already presented myself as representing a community of bloggers when I contacted them about the .org->.cc issue, and maybe the way I wrote things down made them think it over. That's the third issue they had in a relatively short time after all. Making that sort of gesture can help improve their image towards web community.

I hope their decision lasts, though. :classic_angel: For myself, I re-added some SFW images hosted by them ; but for the bulk of my works it's still Tumblr. And I'll be waiting for some time before I consider them as fully trustworthy again.

They didn't replied to my two first messages reporting the issue. That last one does not reports, it explains them the consequences of their choices towards our community. Dunno if that's what caught their attention. But I guess you never know until you try... And having their support reacting to feedback, at least sometimes, is one good point for them. :classic_smile:

Thanks Gauntman. Well it seems the library's progressive growth increased remarkably since the birth of Storytellers' club, and that for once having good news to report pleased quite some authors. ^^ Even Cema clicked on that like button, must be the first time in my whole blog. :classic_biggrin:

I've also seen ther1pper updated/fixed a bunch of entries on his blog afterwards, I'm glad good news are somewhat motivational sometimes. ^^

As I do appreciate the motivation renewal some bloggers have found (I've seen Ther1pper but also Blasingsai and Jexsam updating some of their entries saturday ). @The Gauntman, @Lukaslegend, @noobshi, your blogs are more than 75% unavailable. I have seen no changes since previous update, 3 months ago. It's still a pity considering the quality of your works, and the time invested into it. So I poke you once again, but I don't want to intrude you : please inform me if you don't want to be reminded about it anymore.

@Collygon : there is still the last chapter to be updated, but I've seen you've fixed the whole chapter 1, props to you.
@ther1pper : ch36 to 43, drunkest night -> ch23, dwaven -> shitty armor are still to be fixed, but I've seen you've fixed a whole bunch of entries. Nice effort !
@blazingsai : there are still some entries to be fixed (Part II chapter 3 -> Epilogue in Flame-Child, last entry of Red Witch, and Trace's story is unavailable ; yet I've seen a progression in Flame-Child's chapter updating... So even if you're not into answering people, keep up the good job !
@AriNoir : Golden cage part 3 seems broken. It's kinda a pity, since it's the only one that didn't get remade !

@Agent Tex : as your side stories are still being rebuilt compared to what they were, I've put your blog status' as "mostly available". But you're not far from a complete recovery actually, keep it up !
