Below is the fifth chapter of the story of Benor and Tabrielle, a.k.a. the « White-ash» ; told by the latter.

After hearing about Urunach's rampage, and traveling all the way to the Reach, our heroes finally take action against the Forsworn forces. Will their resolve, magic and weapons be up to the task ahead  ?

As announced beforehand, the tone and themes of the story are slowly evolving into something different than earlier chronicles. Starting with this chapter, the violence level progressively raises to one similar to Game of Thrones ; so if you find something too disturbing to you, just skip to the spoiler following the one you're reading.

Previous chapter is a highly recommended read if you wanna understand something of what's going on. You'll also find summaries & character sheets in the main menu, if needed :

Notes :

Spoiler

As some of you may know, I wasn't satisfied with my first set of images, so I did a nearly total reshoot of the action scenes. Turns out the chapter ended being overly long ass, with 140 images long whereas I'm usually more around 60 to 80. So... I chose to split it up, and thus, cliffhanger ! But the good news are that that also means I've finished screenarchering next chapter, that should come a bit sooner than the usual. :classic_wink:

Uranach seems more stronger than he look, still they have chance, its not the Witch-Queen they face ?

Tabi should use her super dragonborn form ?

Interesting choice in music! It really syncs up well with the 3rd scene.  Loved the action scenes! Nice to see the forsworn getting whats coming to them.

Important question for my own understanding:  Is Urunach a character you created (follower or otherwise) or is he a Briarheart that you spawned using the console?  Because if he IS a created follower, you have to tell me how you got him to pose with magic in his hands.  When I have a follower do that, they always "put their hands away".  Super annoying.

Adrea:  Go Tabrielle! Use your voice to turn him into a popsicle!

Wow!
I read and listened with pleasure. Great job. Although it is too dark in places (probably because I'm viewing from the phone), although this is logical. It's a cave.

And I like that you dose the visual effects in the frame. (When I'm starting - I can not stop :( )
Music adds sophistication and dynamics to what is happening, while not distracting from reading.
I look forward to continuing ^ _ ^

Urunach is not stronger than he looks, he's much stronger. That being linked to the peculiar power he has. You'll see about it in the next chapter, but if it's possible that the Witch-Queen could take him on a regular field, in this mine opponent's strength just doesn't matter. :classic_angel:

Keep in mind what the miner said : Markarth soldiers (and there were a lot of them) couldn't land a single hit at him, not a scratch. And apparently it was the same for Benor. Not even a dragon could do that. Smiley_henri_gaud-belin_HFR.gif

She doesn't know that shout (yet ?). Keep in mind those events did happen quite some time ago from nowadays. As Urunach said, it's not even confirmed if Tabrielle is the dragonborn or just a potential one. :classic_wink:

Thanks Crw ! I'm glad the music worked out well. In fact I was hesitating between two as there are two very distinct phases in their duel...  But as I decided to split the chapter into two entries I'll be able to use the two. ^^

Your effects are quite good, I even inspired myself from your directional blur to render movement effects. To dose them is a matter of experience I guess, the both of us will get better at it, hopefully. Though I do use some comic effects to make the meaning clearer sometimes.

About the lightning, yup it's dark. I try to make sure it's still readable, but it's gonna get even darker afterwards, so warn me if on you've still got trouble reading on your regular screen. Smiley_jap_HFR.gif

Yeah, I tried to transcribe a bit of the terror that must be to be fighting against a thu'um user, or even a spellsword when you're a regular guy/gal. And I'm glad also the music was well received. :D

Urunach isn't a follower. But basically I had to make him the same faction than Tabi for some shots, so it was all the same. I had two imperfect solutions :

— Make him enemy faction and fight

— Make sure he has his spells equipped, then perform an offensive animation (he will re-equip the same slots he had previously)

But yeah, basically making them equip (or not equip) the spells you want is a pain in the ass neck.

Well actually I'm pretty sure the Forsworn do also consider the Nords/regular Bretons as heathen savages. So either case, will do. :classic_angel:

Typically, when I do these fight scenes, I /tdetect then /tcai a random enemy combatant when they get into an "action" pose.  Then position the other character.  I think changing the faction would be a faster option when trying to pose.  Thanks!

Adrea:  Oooh! Do that "Wuld Fucket" and bash him with the shield! Then "Is The Nus" the guy!  I know dragon speak... I studied it in college ?

Anyway, do not hesitate in criticizing. My LCD monitor is tuned pretty dark so I do always suppose images must seem brighter on others's screens... But maybe some other people do like well tuned luminosity, who knows ? :classic_tongue:

Great fight scene shots, and I like the effects at the end. What is going to happen?!

I put quite some effort in mimicking mangas when directing the action scenes (and that's partly why it took me so long to get them as I wanted ), so I'm glad you appreciated them.

About the effects, Crw just said he feared overdoing it : be the good thing with pure magic effects is that you can unleash the hidden photoshoper ; you'll get a lot of them in the next chapter. :classic_wink:

Malicia : « I'm an expert so I can already tell you what's gonna happen : the bad guy is going to be very meany. Then the prince arrives, offers her new shoes and marries her, yes. :classic_sleepy: »

Well it seemed that the easiest way to mimic a fight was to do one, so... But I'm also using /tcai a lot with npcs and followers. Anyway, it's funny how story-screenarchering does rhymes with "getting by" sometimes, don't you agree ? ^^

Those would be good suggestions. However, she wouldn't "Wuld" opponents able to cast Ice storm (at that point that could nearly OS her, and Urunach could dual cast them). And "Iiz" also requires an opponent to have his ward down. And... there's going to be a much more immediate problem for both those strategies... that Adrea should discover upon reading chapter 6. :classic_wink:

Malicia : « "Wild-fuck-it "? "It's-the-noose" ? Oh crap,  those sound so cool ! Why did Tabi never learned me those ? That's so very sad, yes ! Smiley_mixag_HFR.jpg  »

Very nicely done. Didn't have enough time to follow the main line story, but loved the fighting and magic effects. It is for "B". It would be for "A" if there was some sex or romantic scene and my Prince grade it for "C" because there was no Malicia and two horses. He says (quote): "Tell him he knows what I'm talking about." > end of his message. :)

Well, that's the problem when you do split a story in smaller parts : there aren't always everything (fights, sex, magic, character development, plot development, humor) into each chapter. I do admire people who are able to do that, but I assume my choice to have only a B for this chapter. :classic_tongue:

Amazing job with the fighting scenes, especially since you have so little control over what the NPCs do in magic fights. Your post screenshot editing actually adds a lot for these kind of scenes!

I can fully understand that you decided to split this entry into two parts, even though I would have loved to see the second half right now. I started with 60-80 screenshots as an episode as well and now the average is 140+...

It just always hurt me too much to cut a storyline into parts that clearly belong together. But I know how much work all of this is, so I understand this decision.

Well I wasn't sure you were going to feature her in fight, that's why I asked. :classic_angel:

Also the witches/hargravens are the ones who turn some Forsworn into Briarhearts. But that does not imply that they are more powerful than the warriors turned, nor that they are hierarchically necessarily above them, just that they have the mystical power to change them. For example, the Red Eagle, which was arguably the most powerful Forsworn of his time, was turned by an unknown hargraven (which probably did not engage in activities aside of her den/convent). Whereas he is reported having, naked and without his sword (meaning at only a fraction of his power) killed more than a thousand men in a single battle.

Closest feat that comes to mind in other universes was reanimated Madara Uchiha, and he had his sword and armor alright. ^^

Yep, it's always a hard decision. And it seems that action scenes multiply the amount of images compared to purely relational/still ones (I noticed that on your Blood Rose entry btw). Still I think it was a good choice as it will allow me to choose a second music sample more suited to the second part of the fight, and allow me a better publication rate (the editing of that part is going to take me a while ).

But indeed, even if it's taxing to photoshop those, visually describing swords' and spells' trajectories, plus having onomatopoeias to support those effects clearly improves the readability and sometimes the impact of this type of scene. And as there are so much comics out there, there's plenty of sources where to gather ideas to refine one's own style in the matter. Smiley_jap_HFR.gif

Thanks Donttouchmethere ! I'm glad you liked the onomatopoeias effects. ^^

As for the music, I found recently into one of Noobshi's entries that it could improve quite greatly the emotional aspect/impact of some scenes. So if we're to use the web as media, why not use its advantages as well ? :classic_wink:

Unfortunately he has no time to come to LL. He and Ivy are working a lot and their duties are tripled. I just hope we'll have a free Sunday. I already talked to my boss to order them to take it in the case their schedule change. He said he will because he knows my Prince won't say no to anyone when it comes to work ... just as he can't say no to chocolate skinny girls lol.

Madanach isn't briarheart, nor hargraven either. Ruler aren't necessarily the most powerful warriors, but more often intelligent strategists, good managers or their heirs.

Urunach is a leader, but not a ruler. He simply doesn't want to rule. Which is why people like Madanach, some influent witch/matriarch... or even Driada could persuade/convince him to work for them temporarily. But "convincing" isn't ordering. You can't just command a guy as dangerous as him (for in certain conditions, very few could guarantee victory against him). However, he's also a fanatic, and using spiritual authority (such as Hargravens, who are greatly respected in the Forsworn religion) to bring him to choose to do what you wanted in the first place is an excellent way to proceed.

I can't really say why I think that with Driada, since its pretty major spoiler of the main events of the 4 act, well load of spoilers about her, so won't ruin the suprises and twists.

Just say she is definetly wish to bring true nightmare to her enemies.

Yeah sure she can convince him to join, he would follow the Witch-king of the Reach to bring favor of the old gods and death to their enemy.
