Nah.  Cancel culture doesn't work here.

How many mods are a maybe and a nod away from obscurity? Rhetorical question. I'm going to start grabbing everything I need. You know them winds is a blowin.

Not too long ago I went to bed sure of the outcome of something.... and ended up being very shocked. Oh, and I'm finding a lot of *deleted* mods from my download history on Nexus. Some of those mods had been there since Oblivion days.

Users within LL.  Most are very recent additions obviously.

Lmao sensitive retards. Oh yeah lets go to a NSFW mod site and complain to the moderators of the NSFW site who are well aware of and allow those NSFW mods that they don't like them. Yeah that's gonna be a fruitful experience.

I didn't forget your point, I just wanted to point out that the rules kept changing and were expanded upon for a reason.

I'm not sure how people were getting warnings for politics before said rule was announced. If the wayback machine is correct, that rule didn't exist prior to August 2013.

I get it. I agree.  My point was however, the changes in the rules are getting harder and harder to follow. Broader and broader in scope.  It IMO isn't a good path. It is better for everybody to have more clear defined rules and work from there.

To be honest I was of the opinion of many here about the rules and such previously. However, after moderating a site with minimum rules and open policies where the members sort themselves out (generally) there hasn't been the same issues.

I also moderated another site before this one. It was even more open and free.  If someone or a group got out of hand, we  would tell them to knock it off and if they didn't.. we silenced those people for a few days. Most of the time things sorted themselves out in a dozen or so post. There were almost no rules at all on that site.

The tighter the hold on the site the harder it is for the moderators and admin in my experience. Good solid defined rules are extremely useful tools to help keep the site running and the sanity of the moderators and Admin.

TL;DR regarding site rules.  Hang on Loosely, But don't let go!  If you cling to tightly you're going to lose control.

I agree with your points but my argument is that these changes and the very broad interpretation of rules are a reaction, not an action that took place in a vacuum. As an online community grows, you'll also keep attracting a certain type of person that does nothing but push the boundaries and tries to skirt around the rules by technically not breaking them. If, for instance, the rule is to not attack other users, I can get around that by not mentioning users directly but making it very obvious who I mean. So for example, I might go to another thread, repeat roughly what you've said so far and call that 'unspecified' user an asshole and a liar. Technically, I wouldn't have called you an asshole and a liar but for everyone that's up to speed it would be very obvious what my intention was and more specifically, who I meant.

You can play these games all day long if you have the time and energy. And that's why I'm vehemently opposed to deleting posts. Not only is it ineffective, it also creates a sense of paranoia because who knows what will stay up, makes it hard to hold anyone accountable including moderators but on the other hand also makes it easy to play the victim because you can tell whatever story you want to tell, nobody is able to verify what you've said because the posts are gone.

Great. so it is settled you agree with my points. :D

however, I am having problems with some of your points. .. as follows (please take the following as a discussion point not an attack or in any way hostile. )

  • So by your above argument the moderators are incapable of seeing someone commenting about someone being an asshole and not have the slightest idea of who they were referring to even if it is pointed out?  I can assure you this isn't the case and in the past they have intervened with that very same event.  They knew full dam well what that person was doing and meant. The moderators are very knowledgeable about what is going on, in some cases more aware than we are about the coming and goings of this site. ;)
  • I am opposed to deleting post as well, on this I can wholeheartedly agree! ... However, as for it being gone... I am sure this forum software has the file that the moderators can easily go and copy back into whatever thread or PM needed as reference if someone is claiming something they did or didn't do ;)

Of course all this discussion means nothing in reality since we aren't policy makers here on LL. :P However, I enjoy such conversations since I can't talk about a certain subject.. ;) lol.

No, the moderators are very well capable of knowing what's going on but everyone else isn't. Which makes it easy for moderators and users alike to frame a certain interaction in any way, shape or form they so desire. The only group that has access to what happened is the moderators and to a lesser extent users that happened to be active at the time the interaction took place. I'm also pretty sure moderators aren't interested in sharing deleted (or more accurately, hidden) posts with the public since that's a lot of extra work on their part and defeats the purpose of what they were doing in the first place.

And this makes it very easy to play the victim on both sides. I can, for example, accuse the moderators of taking your side since my posts where I attacked you in all but name were deleted but I didn't technically break any rules since I didn't explicitly talk about you. Or, if we would be butting heads and a moderator would delete both of our posts, I could as well accuse them of protecting you because I was in the right and you were in the wrong yet we got the same treatment so you can save face.

well that's boring, you could at least send a gif of Robert Downey fisting a dragon.

Yes, I thought that it was a bad idea to clean my load list for FO4, and to my surprise......several mods were deleted.    I used to count on one side to at least preserve freedom from the excess of the other side (doesn't matter which side), but now.......context does not matter, even if I turn the Brotherhood of Steel into the Nazi's that they are.    However, it seems that porn remains relatively untouched.  I guess communists, socialists, and capitalists of all races love porn.

I wonder why so many people find the 80s era so nostalgic.  It could be that videos (like the one in the spoiler) are only of interest to those of my age group and I am operating in an echo chamber, so much so that I can't see it myself or was there something there?  I think that for one, all the bad shit did not end up being remembered via  recordable media (or at least no one moved it digital form), but while that may be part of it,  most of us remembers the bad stuff that happened then (Beirut Barracks bombing, "The Day After", Star Wars holiday Special, etc.)

Finally, it may be that I am unconsciously choosing to idealize my youth, as every age group does, as a time when possibilities were endless.  However, I do like one of the comments that stated "In the 80s we had the freedom and imagination to dream of 21st century technology, now we have that technology and dream of having the freedom and imagination of the 80s."

True and there's nothing new about that:

It's even funnier if you can see the entire episode (WKRP in Cincinnati) so as to get the context.

That kid has a bright future in business. He understands that stopping the train would mean losing profits and nobody wants to lose profits. Er trolley. Whatever.

Derailing a train isn't very good for business unless one is trying to recover losses from a floundering transit service by receiving insurance payments from the crash or one is part of the Funeral Home business or a clean up crew. If the people in the train were organ donors, that would be an even bigger net gain for someone out there.

At my age I tend to avoid kids other than being kind when acknowledging their presence. I remember an experience I had which makes me question the last statement concerning a 'moral compass'. They sure the fuck do! Not the type one might associate with concepts of higher learning or consequences over time - but that immediate/right now kind - yep!

Went with a young couple/preschooler (Girl probably close to 4) to one of their friends home - another couple with a baby likely around 6-8 months. I was left in the living room with both children while they went upstairs (new home for 2nd couple). While alone with these kids, the older girl reached over and just clawed the face of the baby enough to make it burst out crying, then she looked at me. I was kinda of in shock at what I had just witnessed. The baby was not 'hurt', but it was definitely NOT COOL. Of course the baby mama came down immediately followed by the rest and calmed the baby while the little girl just stared at me..... I didn't say anything because in reality, it would of stirred a pot of shit I didn't want anything to do with. Defensive parents, accusing parents, DRAMA!

So yeah - that little shit knew exactly what she was doing - she didn't like the attention the baby got from everyone, and attacked it as soon as is was 'safe' to do so - I wasn't a threat, but then afterwards I could tell she was watching to see if I was going to be.

And now parents can't spank kids - gee, tell me how that turned out.......   (yes, yes - everyone is a model citizen. That's why the world has so many issues I've never experienced before the 'no-spank' generation aged up)

I have to wonder how many people think that doctors are not ever in anyone's pocket anymore or why they believe such a thing. They will believe that laws that have long ago been repealed are still in effect but they think that human nature or the laws of reality itself have been re-written in the span of 5 decades or so.

Maybe because if it supports their own world view (or justifies a behavior that they know is questionable), then bias helps hide critical thought.

Music is on my mind - Movie music. To me good memorable tunes are one of the most important parts to good movies. Occasionally I'll hear something in a movie which reminds me of another movie. Just a few hours ago this happened, but it was so 'blatant', I immediately began doing some simple research - my mind wouldn't let it lie.

What I discovered was a famous composer was basically ripping off his own music. Looking at the Wiki confirmed this wasn't a single instance as apparently he has been 'called out' for doing this subtly with other compositions as well. Not to speak ill of the dead - only stating facts as the information discovered confirmed my suspicions and allowed me to move on.

The composer - James Horner

The movies - Mask of Zorro and Avatar

The music - a very recognizable horn passage - written almost identically, which has a haunting melody, used in repetition over top a progressive chord structure in the background.

You be the Judge - the evidence follows: (The Mask of Zorro clip needs some volume)

Spoiler

I just happened to be watching 'Zorro' again and this music passage stopped me in my tracks. In Zorro, it's very short, but unmistakable. In Avatar it seems this theme was expanded upon. Oddly enough - Many things from Zorro reminded me of newer movies, stunts, cinematography, themes, etc.

I hate to say it, but I believe many movies have 'taken' from Zorro, and if anyone else gives it a watch, they'll likely see it too. Pirates of the Caribbean is an easy offender to spot, while others weren't as obvious. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) seems to have been an inspiration for Zorro (1998) itself, if certain movies scenes/themes were taken directly from the novel written in the 1800's. Otherwise it could also be an offender itself.....

Hollywood isn't slightly original anymore, and it seems sometimes they just quit trying to hide it.

Lol oddly enough what's going on with my YouTube account.  I've been suspended for an indeterminate amount of time for speaking my mind apparently.  I think it had something to do with No B.S. getting demonetized for being critical of it because I did call YouTube, "BitchTube," which seems more appropriate for those little butthurt snowflakes. ?

I partly see it as a badge of honor; usually they ignore little guys like me but I think I was just one of many who pissed in their Cheerios.
