The firewall works for Skyrim, yes. I'm still running 1.5.80 on account of self-fixed plugins. With the ACF blocked, the firewall block, and launching via skse_loader, Skyrim always works. Steam complains, but it runs.

Folks suggesting you DELETE the ACF file? Wrong.

The method to block Steam updates (so far) is to change file ownership and privileges on the ACF file to an account that is not the one used to run Steam, with NO privileges to read the file at all. Note this probably won't work long term. Currently, this causes Steam to fail with a "disk write error" before it does anything else.

 

If Steam ever deleted files that weren't owned by your running account, you'd have cause to raise serious hell. BUT -- "read-only" is just a suggestion, and the library format will change again and again and again.

 

If you're serious, make a dummy local account with no group membership and make it the owner of anything you REALLY don't want touched. Nothing can break this user-permission contract on any system without qualifying as a "virus". Period.

 

You can investigate running blocked games using three common options:

• Firewall block. Never expect this to work, especially in Windows. Always back up your game folder before trying it.
• Hosts block. Better all around in cases where it works. I've got most of Origin's services blocked, and Epic, and so on. Lists are everywhere, Google for them.
• Steam emulator. Your legitimate executable will work out-of-box with most open source emulators, provided your game doesn't use heavy DRM like Denuvo. Just be careful about running emulation side-by-side with Steam -- always kill ALL steam processes before experimenting with emulators.

We've gone WAY too far with "auto-update" culture.

Uh, you guys never heard of piracy? Is it allowed to talk about that here? It is the best way to "unlink" Steam from the game.
And I even think it's legal, since we already own the game. It's considered as backup.

So confusing that a company can force me to do this, now that I'm so rich and would never think of it on my own...

I have backups at least double on different drives, because sh..t happens.

Turned on updates on gamestart only

Set acf read only

Stay steam offline on gamestart.

Start only via skse

firewalled steam.

This is the protection up tp now.

Future plan

Create virtuel drive and set library.acf pointing to this device.

Maybe I do it or not. At some point the effort is no more in a reasonal ratio to the result.

All this can easily be done, but it needs on major thing. Read folks, in those days you have access to all information !

Here's an interesting question for everyone.. How many people here have SE on PC as well as on a console ?

 

I have both PC and PS4. When I look at the Steam client, the AE update is sitting there in the download section as an unqueued update, exactly as it should be doing, which is nothing except look "pretty" on that window. But then I noticed the size, which is 4gig.

 

when I opened my game on the PS4 though, and then got that auto-update started, as Sony always does, (which I cancelled lol), the file size was 16gig.

 

So what the hell ? 16gig on PS4, but 4gig on PC ? Not sure what's what here, or why such a huge discrepancy in size. Anyone see this on their end ?

It's the same download- it's just that PC's use Metric Gigs while PSs use Imperial Gigs.

 

I got off the Xbox/PSx merry-go-round ~10 years ago, my last consoles being the Xbox360 and PS2. I can't say I haven't thought about getting another PS due to a couple of the PS exclusives, but PC Modding kept me too busy to shed more than one or two tears over it.

Yes i have the same problem, only Sexlab Framework and SoS dont work and there are are few mods connected to these, all other mods work just fine. I guess we have to wait for SL and SoS to update ... im considering downgrading though

Rather simply AE is a waste of time. Simply don't ever use it. I won't. No need to struggle to find ways around for no good reason.

Yeah, I bought this game too. Why should I rely on this kind of thing? 

 

People here seems to forget we are using Windows and formating our computers is not an uncommon task. 

 

All this "deactivate this, backup that" talk goes to hell when the time to make a fresh install comes up.

Well, that's not true at all if you make a backup to an external drive- so you can always restore it to any computer of your choosing at any time including 10 years from now.

 

Even if you don't do that, the Unofficial Skyrim Downgrade Patch method (Depot & Manifest IDs, install via Steam Console) should work for the foreseeable future.

To be fair i might have thought about buying one or two, if they wouldn't be just cheap copys of already existing free mods or garbage pets. ?

Actually No !!!  AE optimised engine is same as SE 64 engine  and same as LE fake 64 engine : same game that bethesda is selling 3 times  ( because we want to be milked and they do not have a clue for what they will do for elder scroll 6 ) .

The really sad part is, as i former ESO player i know how much good material they have.. Seeing how big of a treasure chest the Lore is makes you wonder how they could fuck it up other then laziness.

Its the same engine. The engine problems on LE are still there for SE. Search "skyrim se crashing reddit" as an example and look at all the results. Same crashes that plagued LE continue on SE. The myth is real.
