Umm..  ok, you did it again.    So is your definition of fandom those 10 vocal "fans" on Twitter, or is fandom the mass audience.   Is the fandom responsible for both criticism of the attempts Disney made and the same fandom that made those movies box office successes?

Yes and no. I'm guessing most even some of the vocal ones watched the new Star Wars anyway while some decided not to watch if for whatever their reasons. As you said later they brought in a new generation of moviegoers to the mix.

I am, in case you haven't guessed, one of those who finds Disney's management of the Star Wars franchise distasteful, but understandable.    They want Star Wars because it makes money, and to maximize profits, they decided they didn't want to be locked into years of canon.  They reasoned that the loss of those faithful fools who kept the franchise alive those 30 years were worth being dumped, banking on a wider appeal to another generation of fans.  (source: https://www.cbr.com/disney-streamlining-star-wars-continuity-right-choice/ ) The table below bears out that logic.      I think Ms. Kennedy is like many in corporate America, devoted to profits.

I wouldn't say rewriting a work is a profit thing so much as a writing thing. Disney simply stopped selling old products and said this is how we're going to do Star Wars now. Given that logic I would say it isn't distasteful at all.

Yeah there is some backlash partly fear of the mega corporation that is Disney, salty older Star Wars fans who despise new things and maybe some denial Rey is as good a character as Luke. I mean even I feel Disney is a little too big for comfort but they still do decent work. George seemed content to give his work over to Disney so I don't see why the fanbase is so bitter over the change. Like Luke, Rey is a goody two shoes protagonist who trains for two hours, goes toe to toe with a Sith Lord and joins the army.

So, in closing, on a website that is populated by people who for the love of the games build/use/contribute voluntarily to this whole work of passion called game mods, you made light of those very kinds of people who, for their passion.   I was there (well almost, we didn't go to Star Wars until it was in the Matinee in late summer of 77) at the beginning, have all the comic books, have almost all the PC games (still play Star Wars Rebellion), loved the story of Maarek Stele. of Keyan Farlander and Kyle Katarn (had an early cruse on Jan Ors).   So, you should have known that you would stir up some push back.

That was on me then. I never expected people to like pod racing that much. I know you mentioned passion and Disney is very passionate about what they do which is why they would be perfect. Yeah sure it is a business but so is the original owner. Originally it was an Idea I pitched to some friends that the mess that is the prequels should be fixed and they were happy with it so here I am pitching the same idea here. You are free to your opinion and Disney is free to fix the prequels.

P.S. read Doctor Aphra it is awesome.

Came across this video while looking for "Good girls" for @Evaloves4.  It is a bit long but I will provide a summary: Best Buy employee stops a shoplifter with some very good blocking moves (better than most high school varsity level linemen!) and goes on to let the theft knows that it is best he (the guy in red shoes) just leave empty handed.   Best Buy then fires her, because.....you know....lawyers, but then the UFC brings her out to a fight and hires her as security!   The video below is more than a year old so some of you may have seen it already.

> Thank you very much. Yeap, my prince also can tell a story how he became pro bodyguard starting as entertainer (guitar player and singer) in the Hotel. After being heavily beaten twice, he decided to train martial arts. And he is being doing it twice a day everyday day for 5 years.  At first he had martial arts instructor who taught him military martial arts first. Then he started to work as security in the Hotel. Being very good in what he is doing, he became hired security guard. Some two years ago he attended the school for pro bodyguards, learning kung fu and similar martial art styles, passed the training and he is working as pro bodyguard now. My Ivy too. He really improved his fighting skills and, not because he is my husband, but he truly is - one of the best in our country in his category. But he doesn't want to be exposed, known or famous. He cares for our and our children safety. And so on and so on. I can writer a tomes of books about him. He is the love of my life and I adore him. :)

Question:

Does this mean theres such a thing as a non-pro Bodyguard?

How would that look? Do you spend your free time to just follow a person all day while trying to remain discreet?

I think there´s a word for that ?....

> Some people think they are smart, but they are fooling themselves. They always comment first before knowing the information. So sad. Instead of being smart, they are smart asses. :) Once they get their own medicine, they don't like it. O, maaan, there is a special place for them, but it is not LL.

Before I became a Moderator I used to love this Thread. Most of the time it was thought provoking if often clearly partisan.

Now I have a love/hate relationship with this Thread. Most of the time it is thought provoking but being clearly partisan means I have to delete the post. So sad.

Are NPC allies really worth putting in a game? Manipulating enemies are one thing but manipulating allies are another.

I was almost about to post this in the rant section but recently the amount of blood boiling over there makes Hell's Kitchen look like a peace parade. Ah well.

Of course. Manipulating one's allies can be a lot more fun than manipulating some hostile stranger even though it is much easier due to the element of trust.

The gift is just a gift.

How people act around the gift is another matter entirely, and the actual problem.

Depends on a few things I guess.

Just finished Farcry 6. Umm - it has 'allies', like a gator, rooster, dog, disabled dog, puma, (some other unlockable big cat/spirit). Compared to the allies in Farcry 5 I felt seriously cheated. FC6 is the Saints Row of the series. If you like silly, outrageous, and lot's of BOOM - yeah, there's your ticket. Too many 'rpg' elements as well - the DLC seems like a time sink forcing repeated playing to finally unlock stuff with enough scavenged shit to become 'strong' enough to get deeper into the 'zones'. Not impressed at all with the Vaas one (Citra fanbois rejoice) and leaves little hope for the other 2 when finally released.

My opinion though - others might find it the game they've been waiting for. Always best to explain why something isn't liked instead of a childish 'it sucks'.

In general - I prefer not to babysit 'companions' and pretty much finished Farcry 6 with them 'down'. On the other hand Reginald has released Ivy 6.0 for Fallout 4 and I'm back to playing that for the final time because of an 'Ally'. So there's that.

Edit: Never been to a cock fight or seen anything beyond a few seconds of flapping. So when 'El Chicharron' single handedly took out a dog I watched. The rooster kept baiting the dog till it attempted a pounce/strike. The rooster made a backwards move, slashing away. The dog was knocked 'down' and the Rooster lept into the air high above it before coming down with a killing blow. The Rooster was a good killer, but a terrible conversationalist.

The stars who were when the internet was born will get to achieve a special kind of immortality.      The first generation of internet users brought with them a common set of influences (Meatloaf, Betty White, Star Wars, etc.) and, most importantly, a common history (at least among western countries) which allowed for certain icons of the past to be revered despite not being the absolute best.

Meatloaf had to impress record label makers and radio station music directors in order to become popular.     Now, you can record your first song in your teens and become one of the most watched singers in the world (Justin Beiber).       How many people started forming their reply to this comment with something along the lines of "GTFO meatloaf is soo much better than Justin B. " or to be insulting (to me) "You are saying that because you are another belieber. " <shudders>.   I will always chose Meatloaf over Justin B, but would Meatloaf had as many fans if he had to compete in the same environment as Justin B?

Of course, I might be way wrong, as super hero movies are wildly popular even while being a pile of shit, Justin B/s song "Yummy" has nearly 800m views and it is a complete turd, and many people believe that their opinions matter so much that they put it in a public forum................um..........wait....................ah fuck.
