For the past months I have been working with some other researchers on an end-to-end model for phoneme and pitch-energy modulation to compliment the current FastPitch model by Nvidia. Quality is improved by a notable margin and the biggest current issue with current AI generated voices (awkward pronunciations) is fixed for the most part. 

 

It turns out English is actually quite hard to pronounce, a large number of words have multiple pronunciations despite having the same spelling, when used in different contexts. We have over 950 words in English where the pronunciation or intonation changes based on context or usage of the word.

 

So in the current model I've employed separate end-to-end neural network models, one for pronunciation and deducing pronunciation, the new Fast Pitch models, and another for energy modulation for emotion. This architecture is partly based on Fast-Speech, FastPitch v1.1 and the proposed RAD-TTS pipeline which was released last year by Nvidia at Interspeech 2021.

 

This means that the system is now fully end-to-end, there is no longer a dependence on external aligner.

 

 

Additionally we've matched this process with the new phoneme - based  alignment method used by RAD-TTS. This allows more precision for accurately aligning pitch and energy without affecting overall processing speed.

 

 

But that still doesn't solve the original issue of pronunciation. To create better pronunciations and energy control the issue must be addressed at training, not inference. Previously we were limited to training on either raw text interpretation or phonemes converted through fixed dictionaries. In this new iteration of the model I have now added a residual convolutional neural network for lexical stress detection and a feed-forward model for phoneme identification. This is where, in human speech, we would put stress on certain syllables of words depending on the sentence structure. This also is critical in helping pronounce words that may have alternative pronunciations.

In our model pipeline, it is now possible for neural network based voice models to know the context of the sentence and use that in predicting how to pronounce a word. Here's the current situation if you try to infer pronunciations of a sentence involving many heteronyms. In this case we have the MaleArgonian voice pronouncing a sentence with "read":

 

 

Here is an example of a sentence using our new model pipeline with feed-forward neural network based contextual recognition in Generation 4:

 

 

You can try some of the examples below to get a feel of the minor improvements in the model's expression of emotion and sentence stress. I still have some stuff to fix, with neural networks nothing is really constant and there will still be issues moving forward, but in general I feel like it is an improveement over the old static model.

Remember these are all part of the model itself, no individual tweaking or adjustments were done, which is important since covering voices for LoversLab type mods can go up to hundreds of thousands of lines easily. Introduction:

Project Echo aims to create high quality synthesized voices for Lovers-Lab mods. Multiple open-source AI and deep learning technologies were used to create the voices. The voices were trained on vanilla Skyrim voice lines, and have varying degrees of success and quality. Quality of original voices, training method, iterations, and compatibility of the underlying technology model all influence how the voices come out to be. Some are nearly perfect while others are of lower quality. The process will improve gradually going forward. 

 

You can find demo .wav voice files under the download button. Download links for voice packs are below in the post.

 

Due to the automated process and scale used to process the hundreds of thousands of voice lines, I am unable to give individual attention to make sure each voice line is perfect. I can however make corrections to word pronunciations for each model iteration / update.

 

Please report pronunciation errors in the support thread to help perfect future and updated voice packs.

Can I use existing voice packs if I'm using a newer version of the base mod?

> In most cases, yes.

> If the voice pack does not need a voice patch, there shouldn't be any compatibility issues as the original mod records are untouched.

> In cases where a voice patch is needed (you will see a seperate download), you will need to download a lightweight esp / esl which modifies specific NPC records. This is usually because the original mod did not have voice types correctly configured. Even with a voice patch, it is likely compatible because all the .esp does is add voice type records. 

> Generally, the only result of using a voice pack targeting an older version of the mod is that you will not have audio for newly added voice lines.

Thanks! I'm trying to do everything I can at the batch level short of giving voices individual attention, since it's scalable.

Yeah like Meladiator said there is already a release for Sexlab Defeat Baka Edition on DoubleCheeseburger's thread. I believe there are no voice differences between the Baka edition and the latest normal SSE edition, so you might be able to use it even if you don't use Baka Edition (I think Baka Edition is just animation and some keyword checking edits)

Hm.. some NPCs might still be missing voice types then. I've asked the mod author in choosing the voice types for the auctioneer and guard but was told other NPCs missing voice types didn't have voice lines. 

 

I have added voices for all remaining NPCs, you can download the voice patch file again to see if it works for you. I've attached it here as well:

 

I'm not 100% sure if the additional voices were exported such if I need to redo the audio lines. It's highly likely they were though and the voice patch update is sufficient. Please let me know if it works for you.
