Oh come on! There's got to be that *Game* every once in awhile that your friends are playing and you gotta have it........no matter the cost. :classic_wink:

Which reminds me, do we have a thread where we compare our steam/gog libraries? Seeing games in yours I might have to check out.

Please buy "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" and like it (It's a lot like "Skyrim")

My $inkhole of a PC says it runs well.

But I'm on a latency kick where all the virtual strangers have 66ns latency and *I* have 73.

But then I find you're all playing cartoony games anyway, on huge-ish 240mhz monitors, and I despair.

We need more "Skyrim" clones.

And Odyssey can be modded, that's a plus for some.

(WASTE of resources)

The Jamaican lady from Argentina would've loved Odyssey.

I love it, except for all the walking-jogging-mountain climbing

Yeah, eugenics isn't really something I can support, considering that a lot of major scientific breakthroughs were made by people born with physical and mental disabilities. Albert Einstein and Steven Hawkings are the first two that come to mind. I myself have multiple undesirable physical and mental disabilities. But I have no desire to have any offspring, should that ever become an option. Being autistic, suffering from depression, anxiety, arthritis, and many other issues is not something I wish a child to experience. I hate myself and what I am. I refuse to force another to deal with that too.

I'd check into Hawkings pre-disability life. He was in a program and partied all night and still wiped the floor with his knowledge when he entered the class. Also, who is to say that those disabilities didn't slow them down (in some cases, however, in Hawking case it likely helped him focus on his intellectual work more) https://www.biography.com/news/stephen-hawking-biography-facts

He was incredibly interesting along with Einstein (which I believe wrote poetry)  They both only had a 160 IQ. In the world of super intellectuals.. they had an average IQ, there are some that are 180 and above. Hell some move stars have higher IQs than they are reported to have ;) It is who they were and what they did that made them so special in my opinion.

Noting to be upset about being autistic.. you are trying to live "mainstream" following "society" norms and such, This isn't the way to live. Autistic are very special, have a very special thought process and usually are super intelligent and highly focused on things that interest them. Be the best autistic you can be. Seriously! Offspring isn't necessary.  The other issues, suck. Most can be worked on and minimized with some simple tricks and techniques (for example if you are depressed because you are not happy being autistic, accepting yourself .. embracing yourself can help that part . Mild arthritis can be minimized with daily activity .. provided it isn't due to profound joint damage)

Yeah, things like arthritis are not necessarily from genetics. I have it but thats come from what I did as a career. It was physically demanding and caused severe damage to many of my lower body joints. Much of my cartilage is now measured like sheets of paper. Running 10 miles a day five times a week for years didn't help either, but thats for different reasons. I still walk daily and talk meds, use braces to help relieve pain but it helps. I suffer from depression and a host of other symptoms from PTSD. Its hard but I don't use meds. I do use therapy animals, they're not certified, but they fit the role. If you let it define you, you are always going to be limited by it.

With the recent focus on The Last of Us II, I was thinking about how many games I've played over the years with a female protagonist. Besides the obvious Tomb Raider and Ripley in Aliens for the Commodore 64, I was thinking about another Eidos release in 1999.

Spoiler

Not only a female lead but a 'Diverse' one. Either memories are short, or it's all political posturing from my perspective.

Have you ever played Ms Pac-Man or Kangaroo? You might want to add them to your mental list if you did so you can have an early starting point to reference.

alligators and crocodiles apparently don't get cancer

Resistant is not immune. While AMPs are effective at killing cancer and over aged cells, they are not absolute nor foolproof.

Since when is anything in this world aside from death absolute?

Change. The universe and everything in it are constantly changing. You view things right now, at this very moment, and there will never be another exactly like it ever again because the next time you look, you and everything else will be different to some degree. Why? Because nothing is absolute- it is all relative- not even the rate of change. Change itself is the only absolute in life.

I've always thought that it is not the "strong" that survive. It's the most adaptive.

Taxes ?

One can not be taxed if one does not engage in commerce. There is not a member of the genus Pantera in the wilds who has ever paid a single fraction of a monetary unit towards anyone's civil services.

They are more likely to pay more than a simple pound of flesh for not having any form of civilization whatsoever, though.

Entropy on the other random extremity is even more inevitable than Death as is occurs regardless if life existed in a region or not.

Back-taxes... Soon as a country claims the land, they expect you to pay to live there... or they kick you off "their" land. ?

Unstable Radioactive Isotope decay is pretty inevitable. You can set your watch by it....

That would fall under the phenomenon of Entropy so yes, it is one of the few constants in the universe whether or not there are any living things to witness it.

The concept of Death only has meaning where there are living things and taxes are only for things which engage in commerce within complex societies (which are not Libertarian or Socialist).

What exactly does one tax a tiger for...a percent of his stripes?

Just glossed through your comment, thought you were talking about tribes of people...

... but if anybody would try, it'd be a politician. ?

Words of wisdom - a voice from the past.

I heard some words of wisdom "There is a difference between protest and looting."

I can see that. One is illegal and one can be illegal depending on how the country's government feels at the time.

Nevermind that. Protesting means work and Darkpig wants weed.

I get the feeling someone at YouTube pushes a few buttons, then the algorithm starts comparing your history to videos using certain flags they want to promote, resulting in some obscure videos being recommended.

More words of wisdom.

Hell, we gave a Businessman a shot at being president - I say go for broke and put Ben Shapiro AND Candace Owens on a Presidential ticket and really turn the political blender up to 'frappe'. Yes, I'm getting old and in a perverse way, enjoy the spectacle that politics have become as I can't take it seriously anymore :)

One of the institutions in desperate need of reform right now is the one that so many people just gloss over completely, that being The Fourth Estate.

If only the Fairness Doctrine hadn't been over turned, some of the worst problems going on in the world due to incomplete information if not outright misinformation wouldn't be happening right now. Thanks, Reagan.

I'm wondering just how far the rot has spread and how much needs remodeling at this point. At the very least, news corporations should have to update stories after giving bulletins once they receive information which either completes, complements or conflicts with their previous reporting or face steep penalties for allowing faulty information to remain in the public consciousness as a result of their carelessness. They could probably limit partisan punditry to a few hours a day if not a single dedicated entertainment news block, reserving the rest of the day for reporting with minimal commentary.

Yes, I am suggesting that C-SPAN at its very 'dullest' should be the gold standard of news channels. That might be the least bad thing that Ted Turner had an indirect role in creating.
