A little warning to mod creators of non adult mods....

Somebody tell this guy that he's not seeing what's wrong right now, not knowing that Chesko already got torched by his user base.

Tell this guy? Wait, what? I say - let the community torch him, just like they did Chesko. If the guy is stupid enough to overlook how harmful the idea of selling mods is, then he very much deserves everything that is just about to throw at him - pig shit and rotten tomatoes included.

This is by far the easiest way of convincing people, that what they're doing is wrong - simply do not save them from the natural consequences of their decisions.

As evidenced by the post just below, the public lynch works. It may be cruel, but it seems to be the only way.

I have some sympathy for Chesko, don't get me wrong. I don't consider him a bad and greedy fucker, I don't.

But he made a mistake of picking the wrong side of the barricade, and was made into an example. Someone had to take the bullet.

It's like spanking a child. It may hurt the child, it may seem cruel, but it's a lesson of life.

Also look at his post, as he says the situation is "threatens to harm his reputation". That's 1 of the few things that I respect him for. He does care for his reputation, not just for money.

Can't blame him for butting out at least. Beth & Valve left these guys to face the full brunt of our outrage on their own, no backup at all.

Beth or some shill that goes along with this steam shit will probably make their own version of things like FNIS and similar mods that don't end up on the paid mods list then tell all the modders that go with steam to re develop their mods to use the replacement framework mods.

At least now we don't have to worry about mods being compatible with wet and cold or frostfall anymore.

Imagine future.

TES6 or F4 comes out. You can only get mods on the workshop, workshop is fully integrated into the game. You need money to buy mods, later these mod needs to be authenticated.

You receive a serial key for every mod you buy.

TES6 or F4 will come out and get cracked, including the editor. Full mod packs and individual mods are cracked and torrented, shared on sites like uploaded, mega and 4share.

It will happen, like it or not.

A guy called 1SHOT2KILL posted this on Nex:

Chesko bailed out. Seems like he couldn't take the heat. http://i.imgur.com/4a8kCEn.png

Also, beans got spilled. There was no written NDA about this, they were only asked to 'keep quiet'.

So the modders would have been free to inform people of the future.

i find it funny how people have sympathy for him, anybody with common sense would have known that shit would hit the fan, I find it stupid that he pulled out to be honest.

I guess the biggest problem about this entire situation is keeping it quiet until the very end.
Some renowned modders had a warning in advance so they could prepare for the introduction of the paid mods.
They were asked to keep quiet about it and they did so.
If they told us about it earlier, we would express our opinions on the subject.
Thanks to that we'd have 2 benefits:
a) no one would rage so hard about something that is just being discussed and not even out yet
B) modders would know how we feel about mods being paid for and could prepare their official stand on the matter

I was a contributor for that mod.

Was. Because i don't want to have anything in common with that "community" anymore.

the idea that the time i could spent with friends or girlfriend i would be spending working on something to please such "community" suddenly started to sound very stupid.

You mean people on the internet can be dicks!?

You should have assumed already that 95% of everyone who uses stuff you work on will be stupid children. If this is coming as a revelation to you, its your own ignorance that's to blame.

if the origional creator of a mod dont wanna get on the rape wagon, their hard work will probably be copied/stolen and added to the workshop eventually by someone else.

Regardless if you sell your mod or not, someone else can still copy it and sell as his own. Hence your point makes little to no sense to me.

makes about as much sense as putting the mod up to sell for 90 days, then taking it down to share for free.

Skyrim is my last game then simple I WILL never pay for mods period.

So when SKSE ask money as example if i dont pay i can't play any mod wtf.

Money grabbing bastards.

Fuck bethesda.

Any desire I had to mod anything at this point is going down the drain:-(

When steam first came out many people were against it but the dumbass majority was all for it claiming it would get rid of cheaters and hackers among many other stupid claims. This shit happening now is EXACTLY why people complained about steam when it first came out. Here is the result of the dumbass majority supporting steam, hope they like paying for every dam single thing they get from steam now. To become a user of steam it should be a legal requirement that the person has to first bend over something and wait for gabe to come screw them in the ass first before they can sign on the first time.

SKSE isn't asking for money. They are cooperating with Valve to release a SKSE version for Steam from my understanding.

And to think Skyrim Romance Mod got pulled off the Nexus because it had a kickstarter or somesuch... I wonder if they're gonna upload it as paid on the workshop.

If you sell mod for 90 days, then put it for free, players have a choice of either waiting those 90 days or paying. A lot of ppl will decide to pay, because no one likes to wait. Think about early access - it sells very well for example in MMO games.

If you decide to sell your mod just because "someone would steal and sell it anyway" it makes no sense, since if you do sell it, your mod is just as likely to be stolen and sold again.

Isoku has likely withdrawn from modding already, he's withdrawn from the Nexus at least. I loved his mods, and he stated that he was 100 % cool with people pirating his mods, he welcomed it, he was just there because Steam asked him to. If this shit ends up with Isoku and Chesko stopping to make mods altogether and probably more people with them, I will be pirating Fallout 4 etc., whereas two days ago I was basically "shut up and take my money". That's really the only response we can give that they'll listen to.

trust me if chesko would consider quitting it would be mainly because what he went through yesterday.

They throwed a buckets of shit at him. Literally.

Hell if I know for what reason.

Probably because of this:

Hey, Chesko here. I'm just one guy, but I am the author of several high-quality mods that change Skyrim's gameplay in fun and challenging ways, with more still to come. Charging money for what I do is something I won't (not to mention, can't) do, and runs counter to everything I love about the Bethesda modding community.

Then there is the notion that's he's a well-known modder with popular content and then he turns 'traitor' to the very base that made him popular.  Go ahead and add to that the FACT that he used Fore's software and fully intended to charge for something based off of it.  The 'I didn't know, I didn't think...' excuse doesn't fly because EVERYONE knows that Fore doesn't want his software redistributed for a profit.  Chesko knowingly shit on that as well as the mod fans who got him where he is...or was.

Which brings me to this:

Chesko bailed out. Seems like he couldn't take the heat. http://i.imgur.com/4a8kCEn.png

GOOD.  I predicted that would happen and it did.

Do I feel bad that he was blasted with all of the bile an vitriol the internet can muster in a 24 hr cycle?  Not really.  It needs to happen to every for-profit-modder who's in collusion with Valve/Bethesda to charge money for free content.  There is one sure way to stop this money-grab scheme, and that is to do to every paid modder what happened to Chesko.  Go after the ones charging for player-made content and cut the head off the snake.  This will work because the new breed of modders that popped up with Skyrim are by-and-large a sensitive and neurotic bunch and if they can't get the on-line validation they're seeking they'll go down like a Filipino tranny during Fleet Week.  Old school cats like me won't fold, but then again we'd never charge for mods to begin with.

If someone is making a mod using only their own assets or those they have permission to use for profit, builds it from the groud up as a pay mod or gets agreement by everyone after the fact, AND it is truly a DLC quality mod, I'd be okay with paying for them. But less than 50% cut is terrible and it sounds like this is a wild west situation at best. I'd love to see independent DLC become a thing, but if I am paying for something like this I'd expect every paid mod to be 100% compatible with every other paid mod, just like DLC. That's not what we're looking at from what I can tell.
