Chesko's Fishing Mod is now the holder of a dubious record: it's the first paid-for Skyrim mod to be removed from sale.

He should see that coming. For me moding is like some mythical utopian anarchy, anarchy that actually works and add value to human being. You dive in it, you learn from it, you share it. If it will end behind pay wall, it can all burn.

I don't care about signing that petition. I want Beth and Valve to crush. Let them choke.

This is what everyone should be fighting for everyday against any form of DRM. I'm glad Valve is showing who they really are now and people realize that they suck regardless of their sales.

I've read so many gamers who have had these games for console and went out of their way to rebuy the game for PC just because of mods.

The modding communities have done nothing but good for these corporations throughout the years because as I've stated before, these games would of been shelved and left in the dust years ago if it wasn't for mods. So have kept these games alive. We have promoted these games through mod communities. And yet they want more money? pshhh....

it seems like Valve is trying to find a way to recover money from all the sales they have done. Even if it's just a small portion. So really in the end who ever buys mods isn't really buying a deal of a steam game because 75% of that profit is going to them and Beth.

I'm not surprised in the slightest... I've seen a few mods that I got from here and supported the creators of suddenly get thrown up on the steam workshop for $99 by those same people that I used to support.
I have a feeling that the Nexus and LL is going to die, all for the sake of the almighty dollar.

Not only Revenue control - Damagecontrol aswell. Lol. Those fuckers.

lol, does your window not close as well when you tick the box and click the "Close Window" button? Welcome to the club, btw

I bet it closes for noone. I mean wtf? Why did they ban me anyways? I gave negative feedback but at least I GAVE FEEDBACK! Not spam! Still banned. Steam Kappa.

Well, lets just say that LL, Nexus and any other places to download mods for Skyrim may very well possibly be last game supported for mods. I wouldn't have any doubt that a new policy would be applied for new titles by Beth only allowing mods on Steam for the sake purpose of making profit by having a version on Steam for $5 and not one for free on another site. That would absolutely kill the revenue. This is only the beginning of the end. And it's not looking good right now on their end. But by the time Fallout 4 and TESVI comes out, we will be forced to buy mods as we are forced to have DRM.

And now I am beginning to understand why Fallout 4 has not been announced till this day.

Fallout 4 could be 80% done. Or even 100%. But now they are probably looking for a way to implement how GECK is going to be managed perhaps what ever plugin you create is property of Beth/Valve. What ever you create will be on your Steam account. Your load order is manged through your steam account. In order to be able to run your mods you have to run it through their typical mod manager. I probably over speculating on these things but to me it makes sense as to why we are still left in silence of Fallout 4. And if this is the case, not only running your game is going to require you to internet, but you'll have to be logged into Steam to run your mods.

Isoku has likely withdrawn from modding already, he's withdrawn from the Nexus at least. I loved his mods, and he stated that he was 100 % cool with people pirating his mods, he welcomed it, he was just there because Steam asked him to. If this shit ends up with Isoku and Chesko stopping to make mods altogether and probably more people with them, I will be pirating Fallout 4 etc., whereas two days ago I was basically "shut up and take my money". That's really the only response we can give that they'll listen to.

Been thinking about this whole thing, came up with some ideas that might happen.

Since the modding tools for beth games are spread across open source and proprietary, what if beth and valve came up with their own tools to keep out of trouble about content creation for sale?

So no more need for adobe photoshop when you can use the beth texture maker.

No more need for 3dsmax or similar when you can use the beth 3d modeller.

No more need for audio recording programs when you can use the beth audio recorder.

If they provided the tools, we already have CK they just need to make the other tools. Don't forget beth to make a replacement for nifskope or maybe their 3d modeller can properly export without making the modder jump through hoops like with blender.

Making the tools available will get rid of any license issues from student versions of 3rd party software.

Making their own constantly updated tools would provide an easy to setup thing for anyone to get started making content for money. They could call it the DLC maker pro v1.0 haha!

What if this is their plan though? This makes sense and it would make anything made by these tools owned by beth at some point so the creators being paid little or less can be justified. Nobody is goiing to go through the trouble of making their own programs to create content.

These are some scary industry changing thoughts I am having:-(

Of course all content created so far that modders want to monetize will have to be re created through these tools from scratch to avoid license trouble with the old programs they used before. At least that is what will be told to people at some point should beth make these tools.

Hopefully the first of many, since many of those mods are basically stealing from other mods.

I have actually only just scanned other sites and the "I asked Valve specifically about content that requires other content, and was told that if the download was separate and free, it was fair game" quote is just mind blowing. Anybody thought about doing a small 'jump the shark' mod?

Indeed, that basically means that I could take the mods here on loverslab, bundle them in a pack (for example, "The Loverslab Collection!") and ask money for it legally. That would be insane.

I will make a mod called Immersive Skill Trainers. It will give all trainers of a skill the actual skill level themselves that they are training, rather than Eorlund Gray-Mane having 30 smithing. It's utterly immersive and revolutionary, and I will put it in a pay what you want, 300 bucks and up.

Another idea I am having about my previous ideas above, what if valve just contracted with all game companies for modding tools so those companies co develop the tools with valve so the tools all have valve name on them? This way ANY game sold on steam would have their mods solely released on steam workshop and seal the deal for monetizing mods? Then just about any major game that is moddable will go through steam only.
