Can confirm a "LOOKUP FAILED" message - I just got one doing the "Pirate Prize" quest right as I got the key to the door from the First Mate and "Escape!" became my objective.  The description in the body of the quest also had "Lookup Failed" at that point.  However, the quest still completed as normal without any noticeable issues once I left the boat and fast traveled away.

So i checked the whole localization again and for all available languages and can't reproduce the LOOKUP FAILED error.
i don't even know where to start to recreate this error w/o plain deleting the string tables nor do i have a clue what could cause it aisde from missing string tables - what is not the case or every text would show this error - or human error, hence why i validated everything again.

Could you please load the mod in TES5Edit (only this mod) and check if all texts are in place?

Did some sleuthing on my end and at least discovered the solution, if not why it is a problem in the first place.

The problem was 100% Skyrim being unable to read the Skyrim_English.DLSTRINGS file - all of my lookup errors were from text contained in that file.  This included popup text boxes and quest log entries.

However, the solution for me was simple - extracting the files from the .bsa and leaving them loose in the Data/Strings folder.

After doing the above, I reloaded a save I had made midway through the Dainty Sload questline, and got back to the key drop message box that printed LOOKUP FAILED previously.  With the strings extracted from the .bsa, Skyrim was able to print the text box properly, and I didn't see a lookup failed in the quest log.

Question would be why Skyrim is having issues loading the file from archive, but the solution for me at least seems to be to have the strings files loose.

This is really beyond me. i would suspect a 0 size string table to cause this but DC doesn't have those.
And worst of all: The used program to create the BSA was Beth's own.

So the solution is to install the loose string tables which then override the ones in the BSA.
Thanks for figuring this out.

Edit: Figured out what causes it hence why i couldn't reproduce it. indentical files are only archived once (and this file is identical for all languages except for german).

So unless all files differ, it's not save to put string tables into a BSA. Looks like we found a bug in the engine or in Archive.EXE.

Thanks for figuring this out.

Actually - this isn't currently an option in the installer for 1.10.  The only extra option AFAIK is to install the script sources as loose files - the string files aren't included as a loose files option and would need to be manually extracted.  Probably a good idea in a future update if people are running into this Lookup Failed nonsense with the .bsa.

As far as I can tell there haven't been any script issues with the mod, so I doubt the .bsa is corrupted or anything of that nature.  It just doesn't like some of the string files.

i noticed. This installer was a test version that was never uploaded. ^^

And i edited my message because i figured out what was causing it. The more you know... -.-'

Devious Cidhna V1.10 - Lookup failed Hotfix

Changes:

- String Tables are now loose files.

- The unlocalized plugin is part of the installer.

Yay for Bugthesda!  Glad you at least have a cause, thanks for the efforts.

Hmm, one tricky question regarding the update to version 1.10  which might not be solvable at all:

I've merged DC with the Angrim mod. AA is before DC. The IDs of AA objects are not affected by the merge, but 10 DC IDs had been renumbered in the merge.

My current playthrough is somewhere in the middle of good old Angrim and Cidhna has not started, yet.

Updating DC in this constellation, rebuilding my merge and simply continuing ... would that work without breaking my ongoing AA?

My other option would be to simply wait it out until I'm through with AA, not starting Cidhna quest until then, do the update+rebuild the merge.. (and hopefully have all AA achievements as they where or be able to console all my AA spells and the AA quest(s) back to business)

I'm not extremely familiar with merged patches, but my gut tells me you could probably get away with it with no harm to your AA content since that portion of the merge isn't updated content.  I'd personally save your current merged file as a backup, and see if the newer merge blatantly breaks anything - you could always roll back the save to the old patch if something goes wrong.

Your last option would obviously be the safer way to go.  Also, even the Cidhna content hasn't actually started, I'm not sure that is a guarantee that upgrading will be completely safe (altho most of the updates are bugfixes or brand new content, so probably safer than most mods to update).

DC v1.10 fomod  (german)

"LOOKUP FAILED" (a lot)

so its not only me?

lets test the hotfix \o/

No, not only you. i managed to reproduce the error and found some errornous behavior in Archive.EXE which is used by the CK to create BSA's.
Basicly every compression program compresses multiple instances of the same file only once even if the filenames differ but preserves the filenames and creates pointers for those so even if you access different files the programm always points towards the same content in the archive.
Archive.EXE created only 1 pointer what broke all other languages except for French (first language alphabetically) and German (all files differ from english and the dummies).

Hurray for finally figuring this out?

Hello guys !

I would really love to try out this mod but for some reason , when i talk to Borkul the beast and select "Maybe we can come to an arrangement" The dialog stop at "put the blindfold on her" and nothing happen.

I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a while now (even uninstalled all the mods but the requirement) but couldnt find a solution. Please help ^^

@pistol3 But on the front page of the mod it say

  1. To start, talk to Borkul: "Are you sure we can't come to some arrangement?".

But that dialog line doest trigger the quest for some reason.

It's been awhile since I've done the Cidhna part of the mine, but if I recall it doesn't actually start a new quest - it replaces/updates the Cidhna mines quest to be more devious/sexual.  It also actually "starts" and tracks your progress as soon as you start the quest chain for Cidhna - just the real meat of the mod gets going at Borkul.  If he put a blindfold on you, you're probably already started the mod - that certainly isn't vanilla quest behavior. :classic_tongue:

There is something blocking the scene, then.  The orc asks the other dude for help and you are supposed to get spit-roasted by picking that line.  IIRC I had that problem and it was caused by the male aroused idle animation from aroused redux playing, toggling it off let the scene run without issues.

I tried out your mod last night after I installed your latest update and several things happened. My PC talked to the girl/vampire at the mill on the west end of Lake Illinalta with a collar on. She was immediately captured/seized and was teleported to the vampire lair in broken fang cave I believe. Where "playing with the food" quest started. Then another quest started called "Wait for the drug to take effect" started. I have never seen that before. Also I got a notice "lookup failed" for the most part "playing with the food" played out normally from there. But my PC had a drunk stagger effect from then on and I can't get rid of it. After my PC escaped she went to dead man's drink Inn with some restraints equipped. My PC had a Dialog option with the innkeeper of "Oh no please don't" or something similar.  Where she was immediately teleported/sent to Bashnag's Lair. Things went really crazy from there. I kept getting the notice "lookup failed" and several possible verbal responses were "..." Bashnag used her a couple times then made several comments about someone else would really like her. Then some more "lookup failed" notices and then my game CTD'd and I never did get rid of the Drunk animation. I don't have Angrim's Apprentice installed or devious Bashnag. But I do have installed Devious stories. I have all requirements listed and I use Loot for sorting load order. Got any ideas? I am not asking for an in depth response, just take a look at responses etc and see if you recognize a culprit. Thanks for your awesome work and your time and attention.

That does sound messed up, as though lines from several different quests have gotten interspersed (though most of them, even Bashnag's, are from this mod).  A few things to try:

  1. Overlay the non-localized ESP and see if that fixes the problem (especially if you have a save from right before it went nuts).  If so, that suggests that the string tables may be messed up.  What language is your install set for?
  2. Grab the Papyrus log output around one of the messed up scenarios, most of this mod's actions leave a trail in the logs.
  3. Try to find something more specific around the "Lookup Failed" message - is there any hint of what it was trying to lookup?  That might leave traces in the Papyrus log too.

I was playing the quest "Playing with the Food" where you get abducted by vampires, and you wake up in a cage within a cave.

I failed to escape before they turned me, and once I got turned I was told to go away.

The quest completed once i got far enough away from the cave, yet my character will not stop swaying around like a drunk in 3rd person camera.

I can only move around in 1st person camera.

I have tried waiting for days (in game), but the animation does not stop.

I searched through these forums for the words "Playing with the Food"

to see if anyone else has had this issue, and I think I found an answer.

The only thing I saw was advice as can be seen in the quote.

So I should reinstall the mod and select the non-localized option?

Edit: I installed the non localized version and tried the quest again.

I still managed to get stuck in a drunk sway animation.

I had similar problems, but in mine I got put back into the cage after killing the master vampire. Did your quest actually finish? It's possible it's still in the log, even though you got a quest complete popup.

I worked around it by using the console - after killing the boss, I used "help cidhna" to find the quest id, "player.sqs <quest_id>" to list the stages, and "setstage <quest_id> <stage>" to move to the final stage. This seemed to work for me, but I didn't have any drunk effects running.

Don't know how that idle could get stuck.   But in any case, anything that changes or resets the player idle should fix it; the obvious option being "player.playidle IdleDrunkStop" (to counter the "IdleDrunkStart" that began that idle in the first place).

hello all. im running into a glitch and I was wondering if anyone knew a fix?

When I first enter cidhna mine the dialogue options appear as usual. But when I select the 'arrangement' option with borkul no scene begins after. if I engage dialogue with borkul again, the 'arrangement' option appears again but it even if selected it still does not work.

I've had this issue before and I fixed it by reinstalling the mod and all required mods. I attempted that fix again and it didn't work this time. so if anyone has a fix, please let me know.

I doubt its any mods I have loaded because I have finished the entirety of Devious Cidhna with the exact same load order.

I use Requiem and find a issue. By the fomod version the Reqtificator ( SkyProc Patcher ) throws an error with the message that the esp is corrupt. The nonlocalized Version run without error. I dont know if  exist a problem in the esp or this is a issue of the Reqtificator.
