I have no idea why Ashal removed it again

IIRC (since this was just before I became a Moderator) it caused significant dissension in the ranks. Whose answer was right? The first one the author accepted? The first one that had the right general idea? The one that explained it all clearly and definitively? I hope you get the idea. I am one of those who was glad to see it go since, IMO, it caused more frustration than it relieved.

> With all respect, i disagree with you. :) I think it is more good than bad. And if the marker of the solution marks wrong post as correct one, readers can always write he was wrong and correct him. Also, maybe that solution worked for that person and it doesn't work for other users which was often case. :D

My main issue with it is that it added up/down voting to all the replies and then sorted the replies according to the number of "votes" each answer got. Good idea in theory and works well on sites like StackOverflow, but this is a forum, the vote sorting of responses just ruins the conversational nature of a forum.

Also, after leaving it enabled for a few weeks, there was only ever like 5 or so people that actually bothered to mark an issue as solved.

OK - now I am conflicted. I suggested that new blog entries be throttled by author so other new posts did not lose visibility.

Now my favorite author went back an updated a bunch of his stories... Same effect - no one else is visible on first page.

So another suggestion: Maybe limit the first page to new entries only. Those of us interested in the old stories already follow them.

Author plug: I recommend reading any of jfraser's posts, just for the use of language and story.

It has been temporarily removed. You can find the post from Ashal on the previous page (or maybe the page before that by now).

Just offering a counterpoint, newer members won't already be following ongoing blogs, so they could miss excellent content if it doesn't appear on the front page.  And it's the newer members who are less adept at navigating the site to find these blogs.

Indeed, good stuff.

I can see that logic, so I guess like everything it is trade offs.   I liked it because when I scanned the tech help forums, I didn't bother to open the solved ones.   Now I just look for issues that have no replies, open those discussions and see if I can offer a solution.   Also, if the last reply is from a known tech expert, I leave those threads alone.

there seems to be a problem with sorting categories, any of them when sort by highest rated, most downloaded or new there is no change in the list, a few others have this problem as well is there a fix?

Just tested it, can confirm. Doesn't matter how you want to sort, the list stays sorted by "Recently updated"

I've already reported it on the Discord not so long ago. Apparently, the sorting widget was updated and been acting like this ever since.

BTW, it strangely only affects main categories, sub category pages can be still sorted just fine, so it's probably a bug, which hopefully will be corrected in a future update.

While I'm here, I'd like to ask a question:

Why is the default sorting method for the Sims4 sub categories (e.g.) are set to Start Date instead of the (what seems to be the standard) Recently updated, like it is with every other mods' sub-categories - e.g.?

Is there some explicit reason for this, or is it just some sort of accidental oversight?

Thanks.

there are many irrelevant or bad category download files here, and many uploaders kind of spam bunch of trashes.

the ignored user feature should include "file" option, and when clicking the forum download link, their files should be filtered out according user setting.

site owner can use this to analyze unpopular files/authors, decide what to do with them, as the forum now is piling up on trashes

Ignore User and File Download systems are generally separate systems.  This I can say as having my own website (unrelated to TES), and having run into forum software plugins.  For the software I use, I have never seen a plugin that tied the two together, the ability to ignore a user and by that their download files. And having looked at the available plugins for the forum software this site uses, I haven't seen one such either.

Site did error 500 a couple times, "Connection refused" at least once.

IDK. (I don't know if it's me or the place is burning up, do you smell smoke?)

Working on some server stuff at the moment, which is causing the error. While I'm working on it, the error is likely to come and go for the next few hours.

We're sorry, but a temporary technical error has occurred which means we cannot display this site right now.

Sounds like you are still on it ...

I'll leave the internet alone for a while and do some RL sports, I guess :classic_happy:

This situation is not that bad. A little patience is all that is required. ?

Patience in times of internet, social media, GenZers, instant access to cat pictures and a need for immediate gratification for anything you do? What are you? Born in twentieth century or something?

Aye, and the first time I connect to the Internet was with a 1200 baud Modem. Which made me king like, given that most people back then used 300 baud acoustic couplers. Teaches you patience.

Should be good for now. Had to disable a few minor things to clear up the issue, but server should be stable now at least.

What's with the recent influx of 2-post accounts, that first make a thread asking some loosely mod-related question, then quote their own post and inject some suspicious links into the quoted text?

I never got a answer to where recently updated went on the downloads page but now the new uploads and popular uploads sections are gone too for me. Is it just me this is happening to?
