Animal Crossing New Horizons,

Honestly surprised not many peepz on this site talk about it???

This site is generally oriented towards the other end of the content ratings scale when it comes to gaming or modding things into games that would break the ratings scale altogether.

I found Alien Isolation too aggravting to play. I understand the point of having an unfightable insta-kill monster and checkpoint saving, but i don't like at all how it plays. Makes for good Let's Plays and reaction videos, though ?

I've still been mostly Command & Conquer remastered. All that is left on Red Alert are Allies DLC missions. And the It came from... mini campaign.

Apparenty Tiberian Dawn has dinosaur mission(s?). How did i not know that?

Also played a bit Red Alert 3 for fun, and before i knew it i had finished the Soviet campaign :classic_laugh: It's such a crappy game, what with the over camp storyline and acting, and all the women doing bikini model poses, but i still somehow enjoy it. Let's file that under "quilty pleasures" :classic_wink:

Pretty sure I saw it in the VR/VorpX games listing and given the style/environment thought it might be a good fit - especially since the Alien bundle has 3 serious games for under $15 during the sale. Full price for many games which I know have conflicting reviews makes it easy to wait on a sale.

I just remember my drinking days spending a LOT more than that in one night and having only a hangover to show for it.

Playing RA3 I had a huge grin all over my face whenever the vms were playing. So absolutely over the top and overacted, yet so much fun.

Still have Alien Isolation on my to-do list (got it when it was on sale), but I don't feel like doing a horror game right now.

Seen that Doom Eternal is 29,99€ on steam. Buy for 30, get another 5 off. So... I've been eyeballing the Killer Instinct Soundtrack. Would make the whole bundle around 27 bucks. Still thinking about it, but I guess it's a good deal?

But at least the music can be appreciated honestly.

Spoiler

On topic, since i got a Quest some time ago, i decided to see what the big deal about Half-Life Alyx was.

Objectively speaking, pretty tiny game. Little enemy variety, small amounts of enemies, only three guns with three upgrades for each, not very long playtime. Compared to the main Half-Life games it's like a quarter of content of those, if even that.

Nice story twists though, i hope they follow that up with the real Half-Life 3.

As for playing it...

*Puts on the headset* Screw you, i live in here now! ?

KI is hella solid all the way around including best netcode bar none.

Yeah, I used to watch KI tournaments way back. Love the breaking mechanic, it's making the game much more interesting to watch. It's hilarious since all games at this year's EVO are said to have non optimal to subpar netcode. HOWEVER, I'm not a big fighting games player anymore. NRS has solid campaigns but I'm not big of an online warrior. Never have been. I'm more interested in the music (which is awesome).

So... I did get Doom Eternal.

Good game overall, easily lives up to all of its hype. The latter half is a bit annoying to play though, that's why I rate it only as a good and not as a great game.

Definitely one of the best shooters in the past year or so. Not sure I can compare it to Amid Evil or Ion Fury, both feel quite different even if they rank in the same genre (and as great entries as well).

+ looks gorgeous

+ great atmosphere

+ great optimization (uses like 35 gigs less space, has more of everything, loads faster and runs better on top compared to Doom '16)

+ extremely well done gunplay & good improvements over the 2016 doom

+ new movement options are actually good (and needed for what the game throws at you)

+ overall good and varied enemy design including bossses (minus Marauder)

+ never stop moving

+ Slayer gates are mental

+ enemies are an all you need buffett (glory kills drop health, flame thrower drops armor, chainsaw kills drop ammo, glory kills charge blood fist)

+ one of the best metal soundtracks ever

+ Your base is quite neat, secrets, training room, place for collectibles, replay levels, couple of unlockables...

+ I didn't have any noticeable bugs, only 1 crash (steam photo related) and 1 ingame load that was due to the computer doing something it wasn't supposed to (it updated). Wish more of today's games were as stable as this.

/ Story was pretty forgettable. More cringe whenever someone says Doom Slayer or Mortally Challenged. Faction additions meant more varied levels, though (which all look awesome).

/ A lot of the later enemies are really in your face, forcing you to sidestep / backstep. It's not a big issue because you mostly have the means to deal with it and most areas are arena like with room to dodge.

- stuff for completionists. If you want it all, your first playthrough will be exploring walls half of the complete play time. As with the first game, you get suit upgrades to make that stuff easier to find, though, and you can replay levels without needing to clear them once you got everything.

- weird customization stuff (suit, weapons, weapon challenges, base upgrades, cheats and more that just clutters up after a while).

- the beginning of the game is really tough because you don't have anything. A peanut shooter that runs dry faster than you can clear a glass of water, no dodge and overall limited combat option make the first two levels far more challenging than they need to be.

- Marauder: I've never seen something more imba as a regular encounter. Instant shield, often hogs your face, sometimes shots don't register on his wolf summon which also hogs your face and throws your aim off, too. You basically have to bait him into an opening and then pray you upgraded your Super Shotgun to get double hits or switch to Ballista. Yes I got better at defeating him but when this enemy spawns with other regulars it's just a dumbfuck.

- one of the heavy enemies just looks like a slightly larger imp. I often confused the two and wondered why I couldn't chainsaw the damn thing.

- Not enough ammo for some of the guns. Why does the game have to limit me in such a way? I know you can chainsaw enemies to drop ammo but that doesn't change the fact that the game is super stingy with shotgun ammo and missiles. Ballista eats a ton of ammo, too.

- level design in the later half is sometimes really bad, especially in Mission 9 where I died comparatively a lot by getting stuck on a pillar that decorated a wall. You're dead if you're not moving for 3 seconds, and if you get stuck enemies will have you boxed in.

- swimming wasn't the greatest addition to the game, and so was sludge that prevents you from running, dashing and jumping. Fortunatly both are only present in very few levels / encounters

- challenges are sometimes pure RNG. Like glorykilling an archvile from a specific side. Luckily, you can (and will) abuse the checkpoint system for this. Also, resetting to an earlier checkpoint will not reset your challenge progress (like getting specific glory kills on Pinkies, so you can reset the checkpoint and kill the same Pinky for another glory kill and both will count), but it won't reset your lives either (meaning lost lives will be lost).

Most stuff is pretty nitpicky. Marauders and ammo were a constant annoyance, though. Some of the later challenges are pretty dumb, especially an archvile one that forces you to play through half of a challenging encounter again if you miss it (yay for resetting checkpoints). Overall I enjoyed the song & dance, would probably rate it somewhere among 8/10 or so.

I've been playing American Political Discourse Simulator 2020 (made in 2004 in Japan, funny enough).

It has its moments but I don't know if I could recommend it since I know that lots of people play video games for escapism. The developers at From Software must be witches to predict the future so accurately. ?

Just finished the master quest hack for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It remixes all the dungeons a bit, making them harder. Though nothing kaizo hard. I also took the time to fix Link's palette. No more pink hair or banana yellow hat for the blue armor. Got through it with 21 deaths.

It was fun but a reminder of how long its been since I've played LTTP to completion. Maybe over 20 years. A lot of the stuff seemed less epic than it was when I was young. I think its just the changes to my perception of time from getting older. Only the Dodongo boss gave me any trouble. I curbstomped Ganon.

Carrion, that i'm sure you've seen if you opened Steam today.

2D metroidvania where you play as a monster and eat people (except those armored dicks). And "monster" means a mess of flesh, teeth and tentacles.

It has pretty good gameplay, though when the ..mass gets to third level, it is a bit difficult to figure which end it's going to move or grab.

You'd think you'll be invincible as a massive monster, but guns hurt. Flamethrowers really hurt, and mechs really hurt a lot!

Edit: Oh didn't notice before but it also has a cool Dead Space like animated launch trailer

I have played tk17 for many years, and still find It the best ever modded game.  The thing about tk17 Is It is more like an easier version of  any 3d studio.  Its very emersive and fun, I would recomend It to anyone who has problems with the complexity of many modern games.

have fun.

Just completed a recently recently 16bit style platformer called Primal Light. I really enjoyed the prehistoric alien world style art theme and that the game stuck to a simple, straight forward action platformer. Sometimes you want something you can just pickup and play rather than a Metroidvania. And it was nice to have a modern platformer that didn't add so many bloated combat mechanics that it felt more like a fighting game than a platformer:

Speaking of Metroidvanias Blasphemous went on sale on GoG, so I'll probably be checking that out next.

Got back into Divinity Original Sin 2 for some reason. Over 600 hours played, so i guess i don't mind the armor system that much after all :classic_laugh:

Over 600 hours and only finished it once. Chapter 2 is the real killer, most my games have ended between Wrecker's Cave and Blackpits. That big oil blob fight where you have to (optionally) protect a suicidal NPC just isn't fun.

Looking forward to Larian's Baldur's Gate 3, even though i'm not that big on the D&D setting.

I've been playing Monster Hunter World to pretty much the exception of all other games for the past week or so while the Summer Festival event was on, enjoying the new weapon and armor sets as well as the seasonal NPC costumes and, of course, the mods which can enhance them (aesthetically, one of the best forms of improvement in a visual medium).

Where else can one essentially kill monsters via alcohol poisoning?

Apparently in this version Arthur was slacking off somewhere so one of the princess's chambermaids decided to step up to the challenge. Certainly makes the hero being so clumsy and frail make more sense...
