I only said my opinion, if you do not like what you hear this is not the reason for this kind of discussion you impose

But your opinion (that healthy people are not at risk) is terribly misinformed, and incredibly dangerous to be sharing around. This is not a "which is the better DC or Marvel" level opinion.

You are actively amplifying a line of thought that is leading to the unnecessary deaths of many people.

healthy people don't die ... so much for the deadly virus.

it is enough to isolate the old and the sick.

Wrong, but not terribly surprising considering the source; already enough data you can't copy paste your way out of this argument.

I am no Trump fan but I want to remind you, and everyone else, of the site rules (specifically #9):

In an effort to keep the site & community inviting and friendly we do not allow several categories of conversation. This is not intended as censorship or endorsement of any particular view, but rather a move to keep this site neutral and open. The categories of conversation that are not welcome include those discussing politics and religion. Too often these discussions descend into pointless bickering and lead to offending one party or the other (if not both). This sends the wrong message of what this site is all about. There are plenty of forums, blogs and other online outlets available for these types of conversations, this site is not one of them.

Please everyone, stay away from politics BEFORE the moderators feel that this thread needs to be closed.

Again you are posting nonsense. He called it 'Chinese' because that is where it was/is thought to originate. The 'Spanish' flu of 100 years ago is so-called because it first came to light in Spain - no one was accusing the Spanish of causing it.

Whether Trump can be described as 'serious' or 'expert' is another topic entirely. A couple of weeks ago he was saying that America would carry on regardless as it wouldn't be such a big deal. Next thing he is announcing a record package for recovery on top of all the other measures he has had to introduce to combat this thing.

FYI the Daily Mail is a right-wing rag beloved of the Little Englanders while the Guardian is a left-wing rag beloved of what the Americans would call 'Liberals'. So if you could manage to read anything in full then you would find that the Mail was sympathetic to Trump's comment while the Guardian was anything but.

Moral of the story: Don't get the virus. If you get it, you give it to your family, you may be young and have good immunity, but the elderly and sickly in your home might not. And believe me no one likes a funeral in their home.

? ? ?

Exactly. This virus thing is on a level with "Should I stick with LE or make the move to SE".

Because the people who discover it get to name it and they named it COVID-19

And were promptly ignored by the British who continue to call it the 'coronavirus'. Probably because 'COVID-19' sounds like an indie band whereas 'coronavirus' sounds Latin.

1.  You said healthy people don't get sick, which is so many kinds of factually incorrect it's not even worth discussing.

2. You brought nothing to this statement; your first 'source' is op ed by 12 scientists, NONE of whom say what you said even a little bit

(1) says this is new virus and the government is overreacting, he does not say anything like you said. He says the opposite, and then shows how the overreaction is relative to the current death toll, he in fact agrees the virus is deadly, just not as deadly as the reaction is warranting.

(2) Says the reaction to the virus is entirely political, and he's right. He then says in his opinion there isn't enough data to warrant the level of reaction. He says nothing about how effective or ineffective the virus is.

(3) Says chinese data is super reliable and totally to be trusted.

(4) Says we don't have enough reliable data yet to warrant the current reaction

(5) Says the internet is magnifying the reaction and we still don't know what it should be

(6) Herd Immunity/Old people die all the time

(7) We don't have the resources to do what we're doing.

(8) An old guy with a bad heart caught a similar strain and died

(9) We don't have enough data to make any decision

(10) We know from past outbreaks that the side effects of this action do more damage than the virus itself, just because they aren't lethal doesn't mean it's not dangerous

(11) We should be spending more money and time managing the outbreak differently in degrees

(12) Big Pharma are assholes

So a lot of them have valid points on the reaction and logistics, none of them say anything close to what you said other than isolating the old and sick is "enough", at all. Then you post a trump press conference where he's trying to leverage public opinion against China because he's is the middle of trade negotiations with them, which had nothing to do with the virus and began before the virus was even known about in Wuhan.

Then you finish up with "everyone always blames russia for everything" which has jack shit to do with anything.

Maybe try a better copy pasta recipe next time, cause $50 patreon ain't around to cover you

And you know for a fact that this guy is a surgeon and not some publicity seeking ego. Oh wait. He's wearing a surgeon's gown so he must really be a surgeon. If a surgeon in this country came up with anything like this they would be struck off.

You could also ask yourself what a surgeon would know about catching a virus that the virologists don't.

I hope the books in the background aren't his text books. They look a hundred years old.

None needed. Frightened people trying to leave an overcrowded and unhygienic city and get back to their families in the more rural areas.

His explanations on what this virus does was actually pretty good as far as I can tell. I'm just another layman of course but I have 2 biochemists in the family who could tell me a little more so this all sounded very familiar. Including the fact that this is much more serious than your usual flu.

I think analyzing statistics isn't his strong suit though. He keeps talking about 10% deaths in Italy and stuff like that without even knowing the number of infected there.

It's not like you could just take the official number and do the math, testing and reporting has to be very extensive for that to make sense.

So this part is alarmist and a little idiotic.

I suspect that the death rate in Italy is much higher than it should be though, they are simply overwhelmed and people are suffocating because of a lack of respirators.
