Fallout 76 announcement? (Bethesda Live Stream)

I'm actually getting impatient for E3 to hear about this game. Not because I plan on playing it but because I want to find out the truth. No external mods period or just no support for external mods? Co-op or MMO? Online required or can it be played offline? Survival and settlement sim? Faux RPG like FO4? Another half-assed FPS?

If there really is no external mod support or tools to mod it, how does Bugthesda plan on making mods for it? Themselves? Their track record with the CC does not inspire confidence. They've grossly overestimated the number of modders who would agree to work for them with FO4 and SSE given the glacial pace of new content releases and even a lack of support for external mods is going to discourage folks. They may well slit their own throats.

I had a discussion with a friend of mine about this exact point the other night. We reached the same conclusion that they would be shooting themselves in the foot or at worst committing development suicide as far as the PC community was concerned. If they make it more difficult to modify the game then it most likely would greatly reduce the appeal of the game in most ways, not to mention it likely wouldn't achieve the same long lifespan of their previous titles.

Also the number of "mods" they front on the CC would probably diminish as well, meaning the console users would likely have less content on the CC after all is said and done. It would be one hell of a blunder to cut modding support even a little in my opinion.

I'm thoroughly convinced that becoming an exec at any big company requires a complete and utter lack of understanding what makes your products successful. This isn't the first time I've seen a company decide it knew what its customers wanted better than they themselves did. The results have been uniformly disastrous from a financial standpoint. Whether Bugthesda/Zenimax will linger on, turn things around by undoing their bad decisions, or go down in flames, remains to be seen.

Always thought most of them are just real bad at understanding basic statistical analysis and study results, too many accountants not enough practical understanding;  They get some badly polled study with a limited sample saying only x amount of people mod their game and think for some insane reason that the bad publicity caused by restricting mods won't spread to other stuff like the random bugs that pop up that many mods fix, or countless other small complaints that mods help players deal with themselves so Bethesda didn't have to.

Nah I want to see how far the internetz denzins get wound up and wound up and go nuts before finding out half the rumours are untrue and they were all totally wrong and been Epically trolled. They should have announced it a month earlier to get maximum Hyper bole.

I'm not taking anything as absolutely true until I see something that can't be equivocated by Howard or Hines. Past experience has taught me to take nothing officially said as true, either. What is said and what we actually get or what they wind up doing has turned out to be radically different too many times for me to trust them anymore.

What we hear at E3 will help clear up whether what's been said in the "leak" has any basis in reality, I admit. But since I'm still boycotting Bugthesda because of the CC I'm not emotionally invested in this game. It's a litmus test of whether or not I'll ever buy from them again.

Tonight is the night we see Todd Sweet Little Lies Howard and Pete Bethesda Land Hines either do what is right or blow off their own legs stepping on a mine.

I expect a major cringe/snore fest and disappointment. At least EA got their show out of the way. Command and Conquer is truly dead.

i'm betting on a "aliens colonial marines"/"no mans sky" style bait and switch, the real truth will only be known after release day (or when it's too late to cancel a preorder)

To be honest, that applies pretty much any game period. We don't really know the truth about the game until we actually get to play it ourselves outside of promotional material (which is obviously focused on the "good" stuff only, duh). But since in this case most of the discussion is about the whole multiplayer thing, I'm pretty sure we will get some answers in the conference. I mean, if it's indeed multiplayer-focused, they have to state that at some point. You can't simply showcase a game without giving some info on what it is about.

Bonus points for the reference if they sing Country Roads all the way to the boom. :classic_tongue: I mean, they have the rights to the song already, so...

Ugh, Fallout Exiles.

I like survival MP games but meh, Fallout's more fun single player so I can shape a story, not this.

Just saw on Youtube livestream

Fallout meets Rust+Fortnite

No turning pvp off

No singleplayer option

Can capture a nuke site and nuke the entire area killing everyone in it

I turned off the stream after the rest of that, I saw enough. Maybe some will like it, but I won't get it. I don't like pvp games, but maybe some do so good for them lol.

Was more disappointed by the '100% dedicated servers' comment; I'd play it but only if you can host your own dedicated server.

yup, so no making your own to singleplayer. But the way they said it, you'll be forced to meet random players but can join in with friends. You won't ever see the servers so can't choose, you'll just randomly be put in one unless you join a friend.

Yep. Which also means no modding - unless it's curated through Creation Club, maybe. So Bethesda gets to decide what's acceptable, everything has a price tag, and Todd and friends get a share. Expect the same for Elder Scrolls VI at this point. Fuck this nonsense.

and then they suddenly announce that ALL mods will need to go through creationclub using the online function as a reasoning. im calling it now
