I held a brave face when I was told, but I shed a single tear when I was alone. Many thoughts have crossed my mind since then. What if I die? Why me? I don't deserve this, it's unfair, I must have done something to have the bad luck that I do, etc. Then the surgery. What if I don't wake up, what if I do but there's been a complication? Then the post-op: Everything hurts, can't move, weak and pathetic, useless, hate myself. I just found out today that I'll be getting chemo for 9 weeks. Then the thoughts came rushing in: My hair, I'm ugly as it is, I'll look worse bald, weakened immune system, great, I'll die if I catch a cold, my job, what am I supposed to do for living expenses? I think I've hit my emotional limit on this, I don't know what to do anymore...Â
27X Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Pretty simple.  Write a daily list.  Three things, three completely different but easily achievable things. Things not connected to your job, but connected directly to productivity or your well being.  Do them, do not deviate. write a new list as soon as the old one is done.  After five you shouldn't need a list, and chemo will still be shitty as fuck but a dull roar by that time.  By the time you get out of chemo, it should be second nature if you stick with it and before you say what kind of shit I bet you can take a literal look around and find three things right now and that what you work on. You do not worry about next week or next month or any irrelevant bullshit, you focus on getting through chemo and handling getting healthier while under chemo.  The rest tends to fall into place, and as for long term; you'll know when you can based on what you can do now, and until then it's fucking pointless to remain in your own head repeating a bullshit loop. 1
