bob11 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 is steam site down ?? The Community part is down at least. I wonder why...
dechurch Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 All this apocalyptic gloom and doom has got me looking at openmw. It's an open source re-creation of the morrowind engine. Only with a modern graphics engine. And source code. It's not getting a lot of attention right now, but that couldchange if Beth and Valve really want to lock things down for FO4/TESVI. With all that IP that belongs to Bethesda? How long do you think that will last if it gets successful?
dechurch Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 3-4 Steam Updates back i think. Fucking assholes. So . . . backing up skyrim. You can back up the folder easily enough, but what about the registry? Wait till offline mode disappears. FUCK! Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim] "Installed Path"="C:\\Steam\\Skyrim\\" I hate fucking with the registry. So just copy and paste basically? I don't have a bethesda softworks entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE Edit: Found it. Its under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\skyrim
Rayblue Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You have to find this key in the registry, highlight it and then export as a .reg file. However, with the sea change in the way Valve/Beth/Zeni changed policy, the open-source engine may attract new blood to help complete it.

Nobody is making money from this? C&D.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Mods = freedom in pc gaming. Steam machine = We will dictate the way you play.
Maviaux Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Steam Box anyone? making it possible for mods on consoles? and then selling them. I don't think PC gamer's are the only ones to be screwed by this turn of events. and then comes exclusives. mods for an exclusive are going to piss off both sides, one "you have to buy it" two "it's exclusive to one side or the other". Husband/Father: Honey? where did all these 1 and 2 dollar charges come from on the credit card? there's like $500.00 worth of F*&^%$# charges to...to...TO....WHAT THE FUCK STEAMMMM....BILLY GET YOUR ASS IN HERE NOW!!!! seen it happen with Call of Duty and my Nephew buying modifications, what a F'ing nightmare that was. wasn't no 500 bucks but still. you don't steal CC numbers especially from your own parents. But it happens all the time. and what recourse are parents going to have? This sounds like a case of bad parenting and disobedient children, wouldn't blame this on Steam/Valve/Beth, specifically. Dirty little thieving rugrats.
Ashkandii Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Only way this is going to go down is in virtual bloodshed i mean wtf was they thinking 3 years of free modding and as soon as they were (maybe) about to announce the release Fallout 4 they personally deliver a bag of Bullshit to your front door and say "this is innovative, THIS IS THE FUTURE" Don't Think I've been more disappointed by one of my favourite game companies since the release of Destiny.
torkenstiem Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 ive noticed that the "donations button" has been mentioned quite a lot lately. what happend to the donation button for the mods that had it on this site? have they been removed/moved, or have i just overlooked it?
Guest endgameaddiction Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Fallout 4 has not been announced yet. And this is my reason to believe why. Not until all the mechanics are set in place with full DRMMod control.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Well you can't argue with that. free mod uses drm so paid mod will not be able to steal it's content either. So this goes both ways. ive noticed that the "donations button" has been mentioned quite a lot lately. what happend to the donation button for the mods that had it on this site? have they been removed/moved, or have i just overlooked it? Well with the paid system now in place i see little reason to keep the donate up. Unless they let the paid version go. It can't be both at the same time.
BloodSplatter Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Will we even HAVE the paid Steam mods on our PCs? Or will they be downloads that mysteriously disappear a few days after we bought them? I can see mods being coded like the Steam files for Batman/SaintRow/Assassin'sCreed and the downloader not really owning what he bought. I can also see playing in off-line mode going the way of the dodo along with being forced to upload esps to Steam instead of free sites like Nexus or here. This is my biggest fear right now. Skyrim has been out long enough that most of us who have committed to spending hours learning to mod, learning to install mods and learning to get your game stable as a rock with 150+ mods running basically have the setup we want. So even with new mods being put behind pay walls, I can at least take solace in the fact that I have a setup with all my favourite mods running smoothly and already downloaded. Removing offline mode play would be fucked and I'd fight them on that tooth and nail with anyone else. Not only is that just a pitiful way to force us to conform to their greedy system, but the point of offline mode is to allow play of your games without internet connection, not everyone can have constant net connection everywhere they go and want to play the products they paid for! So really removing offline mode play is WHOLE 'nother problem, and that they wouldn't be able to get away with that. I for one support modders and have been modding myself for a while, and I understand you can spend a whole day modding just learning new things or adding content to your mod, hell I spent 8 hours on a day off learning papyrus. But -making- people pay in order to use your mod is not cool, we're not professionals, if someone downloaded a mod I created and said "Hey, this mod if fucked, it conflicts with x y and z." If I was done working on that mod I could turn around and go "Sorry, not working on that anymore because of x y and z" and that'd be the end of that, because I have no obligation to add to that creation. So when you put a pay-wall in front of a mod and people buy it from you, to find the same issue, are you suddenly obliged to service that mod and make sure it's to a professional standard? Fuck no. "-here lemme go and whack together some poorly scripted, uncleaned and incompatible-with-other-mods mod, charge you 15 smackers for it and when problems arise I'll just refer you to my field of fucks, where the yield is scarce and I have none to give. I am under no legal obligation to address any problems with the *cough* 'product' *murmurs* 'yeah let's go with that' ahem, product yes.

Chaos63 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Some mods on LL are dependent on other mods whose owners are becoming sellouts, such as SkyUI. It doesn't much matter though since I guarantee you will be able to find it in a million places on the internet. And consider that the more popular the game, the more piracy there is, so this could well go for every non-shit mod that becomes payware. They will probably make this impossible for the next game, but right now, their asses are in the air.
bjornk Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Modders asking for payment/donation is obviously not a new thing, what's new is that an online retailer and a publisher now asks to be paid for other people's efforts. You see, if you consider their 75% cut, it's hardly a case of "modders asking for money". Both Valve/Steam and Zenimax/Bethesda have still been profiting from a three year old game merely because of free mods. They are the ones who should pay modders for their work, but the greedy bastards want to commercialize modding in order to make money out of it. Well, if this isn't an evil practice, I don't know what is. TBH, I no longer see a future for modding on the Steam platform. It has become a thing that you should steer clear of, if you enjoy making or using mods.
Kendo 2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 well, steams "pay for mods" dont have anything to do with mods on LL...yet does it? That goes back to the undefined 'authorized user' in the CK's EULA. What or who is an authorized user the mod author can share content with? How is sharing defined? If I upload a mod to MediaFire is that sharing? Is MediaFire an authorized user? The mod is stored on their servers, are they allowed to have it? Was I allowed to upload it to them in the first place and still be in compliance with that ambiguous EULA? The way the EULA is worded and how the defintitions are set in the preamble, Bethesad can determine who/what is an authorized user. But 'authorized user' is not legally styled in upper case or even defined. They could feasably determine that sites like Nexus and LL are NOT authorized users and NO YOU CANNOT share with them. Basically, the mechanics of the contract are in place to make modding a Steam/Valve only affair. If a mod site isn't sanctioned as one of these undefined 'authorized users' you can't share with/upload to them. Bethesda simply hasn't done it yet.
myuhinny Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 If SkyUI 5.0 is hosted here, it WILL end up being taken down as a paying mod. http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/611704730318722123/
D_ManXX2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Did Schangster replied to the tweenlite thing ? That is interesting. since he will need to pay 500 a month to keep his mod monetized. So end result means he cannot monetize his mod i think the same can be set to niftools and most mods where build with that too right ??

Which truly raises my concern how they are going to treat mod communities such as LL. I truly hope we do not get shafted and become just a social community. I'ts a 50/50 chance as I see it. Skyrim mods have been out for 3+ years. Completely shattering all communities that support Skyrim mods is a low blow. And it's only going to reign upon their true colors. I hope that more gamers truly reflect upon everything going on and put a stop to supporting Bethesda and Valve. Changes like that will send the right message when you see Fallout 4 release and 5% of the gamers are only buying it and everyone in their studio are just running around in cicles pulling their hair out figuring out what to do.
Kendo 2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Student versions of anything like 3dMax or PhotoShop, sourceforge software, Blender foundation. Some of them allow it IF you pay dev prices for a license and others outright forbid it.

Kendo 2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Wow, they haven't updated in a million years but now they shit out a brand new version. One way to fix their little red wagon is to not use version 5. I mean NO ONE mod with it and plainly state on mod pages that their v5 is not supported. If no one mods with, there will not be a need for it and if there is no need, no one will buy it. And they can sit there behind their paywall in Valve Fortress and lament that no one is coming.
torkenstiem Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 well to be honest, {and it maybe mostly because my pc is over 6yrs old} but, ive had major headaches tryna keep bethesda games runnin smoothly even without mods added. i dont think i can handle another unfinished buginfested game. i wanna add, without the modders here, i wouldnt have never played them as long as i have. thnak you guys and gals.
