Kendo 2 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 All in all, I think most (not all) modders are to blame just as much here as Valve/Beth because they jumped at it as opposed to being skeptical about it... Putting myself in Chesko's shoes (god-fucking-forbid at this point) my first response to Valve's email would have been 'You guys are fucking clueless if you think this is going to work out how you think it is.' Then I would have explained the things they obviously don't know or refuse to consider; basic shit like load orders, world space and other conflicts, script errors, animation registry, player made dlls, and everything else those greedy Valve fucks couldn't care less about. I would have also made it clear the 25/75 split breaks on MY END NOT THEIRS. IF they wanted to play after that the contract they sent would go straight to an attorney friend of mine for a quick review and a mandatory rewrite, if it needed it or not. And when they squawked (and they would) my response would be 'you came to me, I didn't come to you'. That's also when I would dump all of the email exchanges thus far into the public sector so everyone would know what was coming and the shit storm of these past two days would have happened last month. In other words, I would have played their corporate game and then blown the lid off of the whole thing. They would also be get a letter from my attorney and a registry complaint from my State's Attorney General's office (since they do business in my state via the internet) and an FCC complaint (since I was communicating with them via a wire), just in case Steam/Valve wanted to ban me without cause. They would also get notice they have no vetted interest in any game content I make, since they are not mentioned in the EULA authored by Bethesda. Dealing with them was never in the terms, so YEAH go fuck yourselves. I would have done all of that, but then again I'm not 20-something millenial fuck with no job dry humping the Obama dream world I voted for and never got.

"you know how I'd handle it?. I'd tell them to straight up blow out their ass!!. Because I've been in the community long enough to know that associating anything of the like to the modding community would be absolutely detrimental to the community as a whole. Especially if they mentioned money, I'm not that fucking retarded LMAO. For people that feel sympathy for those modders that were crucified, I say yeah it can be harsh with the internet and what not, but fuck them!. They knew damn fucking well what they were getting themselves into, ANYBODY with a smidgen of common sense would have known. And I don't know how much suger coating valvthesda did/said to the mod authors but I can say it wouldn't have been much, once again any mention of money and you know to say NO!. You want to pay me? Hire me, I'm not your piggy bank. I don't store coins up for you through my work so I can empty myself out at the end of the day, it'd be like putting coins into a broken money box with a hole in it while not all the coins fall out, most will. Sigh I'm going to bed soon LMAO, hopefully we will all have some good news tomorrow, good night lovers lab!."
zippy57 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 If you want to get paid then just don't mod.Serious question: Why can't someone want to get paid for modding? What gives you the right to tell someone what they can and can not do to make money?
Yami X Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 And modders face what exactly? Something they signed up for? Something they chose to do? In the case of the modders like xilverbulet (Midas Magic) I have no sympathy because he has pulled every free version of his outdated mod and then proceeded to update his mod to get money.Being an asshole is not okay. It is never okay. It doesn't matter what the other person did. Don't like it? Say your piece politely and/or move on. No one, and I mean no one, should ever have to put up with constant threats and abuse of any kind. Not while we pretend to be part of any sort of civilized society. There are times when you have to be an asshole being nice all the time gets you nowhere I mean just look around. There's a reason Valve and Bethesda feel they can just pull these type of stunts. With that said I'm pretty sure myself and others don't support harassment of any kind but in this case it's almost like a self inflicted gun shot wound on some of these modder's part.

Lets do it brah!
Kofina Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 And then Barnivere got out her little BIG book of screencaps...
Double D Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 If you want to get paid then just don't mod.Serious question: Why can't someone want to get paid for modding? What gives you the right to tell someone what they can and can not do to make money? I actually don't have a problem with it per say, but to explicitly expect payment crosses the line. The community has come so far without salaries, wages or any payment whatsoever. This is even coming from someone with pro-capitalist views. It's just that the only way to sell Skyrim mods would be through Valve. If people want to get paid, let the free market decide who gets what and where. I don't want to see mods on Steam workshop exclusively. As I've said, I don't have an issue with donations. It's just too much of a grey area so people don't want to deal with it. EDIT: I should also add donations could include commissions, heck, even a pay wall. Just allow some competition. Previously, anyone who tried charging for a mod would just get issued a DMCA and shut down.

badbat111 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 She's been modding for ten years and I've never heard of her, and she's 'instructing' people to just 'get over it'. Yeah, fuck her too; along with Chesko and anyone else who thinks charging for game mods is a good idea. Grace Darklings Spellbreaker ReVamp for Skyrim The Spellbreaker Shield Re-vamp. updated 5:31, 28 Jan 2012 more like joined nexus 10 years ago to download mods thats the last file on her files list 2012 im crap at mathes but i highly doubt 2012 is 10 years unless she posted that in the year 2025

Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Well friends, if we start getting paid per post, I'll take mine in BJs and pizza.
Rayblue Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'm not honestly surprised that this Mrs. Darkling dismisses everyone up in arms over this as children. It's way too convenient. She and her ilk are a pox on the community. This entitlement attitude doesn't fall on the users, though we can sometime act like obnoxious little shits. It's all them. If you want to get paid then just don't mod. Users should never feel obliged to owe a cent, especially if upload your stuff for the hoi polloi. Common courtesy is greatly appreciated; Donations would be cool too if the forces that be would let it happen, but nope. Gotta get Valve their money. I just hope modding remains DRM free just so she can become a "professional modder". If she actually wants to be paid as a full-time modder, she can apply for a job at Beth or EA -- there's the money, she also already has the portfolio to show for.

Exactly, if you want to get paid making stuff for games, get a job with that dev. Don't just hand over 75% of anything you make to them for doing exactly nothing.

You're just going to come in, say something, and then backpedal as quickly as possible when someone actually confronts you on it?
