For one thing It is really up to you whether you want to support a needs mod. Which I assume is the case since you had mandatory meals integrated into your mod.

 

It is also up to you to choose which mods play nice to your mod that is bigger than most overhauls out there (Just sayin).

I am starting to wonder if it is a branding problem. Maybe you should call it Devious Curse Overhaul or something cause that is what it kinda is now. This won't eliminate the complaints but ya got to pick and choose what happens and you can't please everyone. I also think you need a vacation cause I'm seeing smoke rise from your head and I'm not even there to see it.

You can interpret it either way. To put the most malicious spin on it without any evidence is simply "trial by smear". 

We simply cannot know why a thing is done, but we can see the results.

 

 

People should be aware that DD also has similar licensing terms to DCL, which prevent any distribution of a modification of DD, despite provision of the source. The basis for DD - of course - is not simply its code base, but also the assets it uses. Some of those assets are taken from elsewhere, and open to use by anyone, others are the sole property of DD.

 

Personally, in the case of a shared framework, like DD, I find this somewhat obstructive. DD contains code and assets from many people, and copies code snippets from many other mods that came before - as does DCL for that matter. People should be aware that when they use DD, it's not in any real sense open source, because if you used the code in it to make anything like DD, the proprietors of DD could (or would?) come after you. The value of the DD source is as a document that allows you to interoperate successfully with DD, because you aren't really allowed to use it for anything else. At least, I cannot think of many useful applications for the majority of the original parts of that code beyond implementing something exactly like DD.

 

That a shared framework in a largely open-source modding environment, is so tightly controlled, on a site where people are frequently very permissive about use, and give freely to the community, seems counter to the spirit of LL modding. While DD itself is given freely, just as DCL is given freely, they are not technically given, they are loaned, and you may lose the right to use them at any time in the future. As a modder, when you build on top of DD, you cannot be sure it will be there tomorrow, and you cannot be sure it won't be arbitrarily changed to deliberately block your mod (though this has never been done, and hopefully never will). If DD adds a check for your ESP and shuts down if it finds it, you can't patch that out, because you aren't allowed to modify DD.

 

Now seems an interesting time to raise this, what with Oracle now charging for the use of Java, a language and framework they promised they would never charge for.

 

Kimy has never shown any sign of making such egregious moves as described above, but what if Kimy walks away from Skyrim tomorrow? Who will end up controlling DD, and what will they do with it? Personally, I have no idea.

 

So that's one of my little cavils about how the DD team operates. Contributions are not invited, offers of help are silently ghosted, and lost members are not replaced, and there is no possibility to extend it independently because that is explicitly prohibited. Instead of being the shared responsibility of a decent sized working-group that would be resilient to churn of its members, it's in the hands a tiny group. If it is ever taken down, then it's gone, you cannot recreate it without remaking every script file and DD-owned asset from scratch.

"Open Source" doesn't mean "you have the source". DDi never came with an open source license so no reason for anyone to think it was open source.

 

BTW all Skyrim mods come with the source, because .bsa files can be easily unpacked, and .pex files can be easily decompiled to source.

 

Also BTW all DDi code and I think DCL is on github, so anyone can always download any old version, even small versions between versions that never got posted here, if they don't like current version.

Yes pleaseon keeping it friendly, Kimy doesnt have to make her mod compatible with anything she doesn't want based on her wishes, and it's up to us to decide after reading what the mod does if we want to use it,and arranging our mod order accordingly. We can ask about making things work together but that's up to her. Over the past few pages it seems like a lot of people are pouncing on her for how she made her mod work when we should be grateful that she made it at all.

I do not think your mod is obsessive ... I repeat once again: your mod is one of the best in this area for Skyrim, if not the best ...
I just don’t understand your reaction when they write to you about mistakes ... and errors in such a mechanism are quite likely ... And it seems to me that it’s good that they write about them, because checking all aspects of such a mechanism alone is very problematic ...

I'm going to guess you mean DD, rather than DCL? As that was the real topic.

A repository can be made private in ... what? ... two clicks?

Even if somebody re-uploaded a copy of the repos, nobody would be allowed to use the mod.

 

But that's kind of irrelevant anyway. The existence of a repository has no bearing on rights, any more that the ability to decompile a PEX makes something open source or not. I'm very aware of what open source is - I think most people are - so pointing out what it isn't only adds noise.

 

 

It is, on the surface, completely reasonable for DCL to have restrictive rights, because there are (almost) no mods that depend on it. If DCL was pulled down today, it would only impact DCL (more or less).

 

OTOH, every mod that leverages DD places a bet that DD will continue to be licensed for use and legitimately available for download, so the restrictive rights can theoretically cause a ripple into other mods. It is expedient for modders to use DD, so they do, but they always do so on DD's terms.

 

Because there's a DD "team", it's easy to think of it as being developed by a robust group, and because we have the source it's easy to think it's open, but it's not under any open source license that has any legal grounding, and it's developed, for all practical purposes by one coder and some art contributors.

 

It's just something people should be aware of, because right now, we're seeing an assertion of rights to block patching on DCL.

Tomorrow that discussion could be about DD.

It isn't so much writing to Kimy about mistakes, as much as it is the venomous fluff added onto the posts about mistakes.

 

If you find a mistake, have a request for compatibility, or a suggestion for a feature that would fit well in DCL, you should write it out clearly and leave it as just that.

Being insulting, demanding, or just plain toxic is likely to get what you have to say ignored, and not just by Kimy most people don't like being treated that way.

I apologize if you don't mean this the way I take it. It sounds like you're saying that if you've made a request or or raised a concern in a civil tone and it was brushed off that you can then take it up a notch maybe? Be more forceful and ask louder ? We can use her mod if we like it and what it does and ask or suggest things politely but the work is all and would be all Kimy's. We have no right to demand anything or be rude if we don't get our way. Again I apologize if I just read that wrong.

It's confusing when you write things that have already been said in a way that specifically looks as if you're correcting something, when you're simply repeating it.

 

As I already observed, owning a copy of the repository is no help to the people who don't already have one, because you aren't allowed to distribute it, because of the mod it contains, which you have no rights to.

It seems that there are some problems in spirits of DCL which cause touch of control dose not work with NPC.

I used the spirits of the previous version instead. This spell did work.

Hello, just updated to 8.0 today, trying out the new prison on a fresh save, pretty satisfied with it so far (little disappointed it's not disable-able so I can switch back and forth between POP and this mod, but that's ok).

 

However I am having a couple of issues that occur during arrest. Often times, after the punishment is started (chastity belt, walk of shame, etc), one of these two things happen:

 

1. The guard talks to me again, and begins to administer a second punishment as if the first had not happened.

2. The guard begins to attack me and kills me. I am unable to surrender.

 

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it a mod incompatibility? I did make sure to disable POP. See the spoiler below for my active mod list. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

EDIT- Also it's fine if Kimy wants to brush off whatever she wants, we can't expect her to jump when we say.

You did take that in the wrong way. Not saying it's really wanted from either side because Kimy has been just as snappy.

 

I think it boils down to dcur being such a big mod used by so many people that cutting off other mods feels like a detriment for the community as a whole. And no one really can figure out how to word it in a way that's just "can you please just do this for the community" when it comes the compatibility issues.

However I am having a couple of issues that occur during arrest. Often times, after the punishment is started (chastity belt, walk of shame, etc), one of these two things happen:

 

1. The guard talks to me again, and begins to administer a second punishment as if the first had not happened.

2. The guard begins to attack me and kills me. I am unable to surrender.

I did have the guards attack me , that was because i skipped through the dialogue faster then it wanted me too. Maybe that reason? It worked wehen i just let it go it's own pace. Not sure about the second punishment, haven't had that.

I think it just boils down to dcur being such a big mod used by so many people that cutting off other mods feels like a detriment for the community as a whole. And no one really can figure out how to word it in a way that's just "can you please just do this for the community" when it comes the compatibility issues.

There is some relevance to DCL in all this, in that is has been pointed out that nobody except Kimy is allowed to fix how DCL interacts with crime.

You are not allowed to patch or modify it.

 

Also turns out that the SLIF patch is banned too.

 

Possibly, people thought the intent of those rights claims was to prevent wholesale forking, but it turns out that they're highly relevant in another context, and this was intended all along.

 

At least as I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong, the intent was always to block any patch or modification to DCL, no matter how minor - at both the ESP and script levels?

 

I would guess as a corollary of this, that any ESP merging, or Tes5Edit of DCL is considered problematic ... that you can do it but ... you shouldn't ask for help on the forum if you do ... because the rationale is that any patching might break DCL. You should probably also make sure that DCL is last in your LO, in case anything overwrites it. I think I'm joking here ... but TBH it's getting a bit of a grey area. The first rule of modifying DCL is that you never talk about modifying DCL!
