Actually, we have our own custom version of the Fallout Mod Manager, available here: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/17895-fomm-custom-build-0149/

Prideslayer hinted at the possibility to make it compatible with TES games eventually, so there is that. :D

Hmm...if he plans to add other games like TES and an interface like being able to choose between what game you own that would be sweet.  I'll definitely keep an eye on that.

SEE that's the kind of helpfulness that brought me here in the first place.  At first it was because I heard there were better race mods here but now I see there are also better people.

If your standard of a "Modding Community" is the Nexus then get ready because you'll be getting surprised a lot. xD

The more this thread grows the more I think maybe I should have my Nexus account cancelled.  I don't think I should be affiliated with people who are obviously to childish and irresponsible to handle the moderating powers the Nexus gives them.  The only thing stopping me is I just find NMM so damn convenient.

We should band to together and create our own mod manager with about as much utility (perhaps more; organizational mod builder, better sorting and built in ini filter/builder) as NMM.  If the LoversLab can do that I can finally uninstall NMM and leave that site before something really bad happens.  I avoid the forums and chat for that reason but it's like being in the middle of an ocean with 150mm going off all around you; sooner or later you're gonna get hit because some moderator decided to be a dick.

Two words....

MOD ORGANIZER

It's far, far better than NMM, does everything NMM does (including downloading directly from Nexus) and a lot more. Just switch. You'll be glad you did.

Don't kill your Nexus account. Just use it to get mods and forget about interacting with the Nexus "community". Unfortunately Nexus has over 30000 Skyrim mods so you kind of have to use Nexus at some point.

I still use OBMM for skyrim, the 3 times I gave NMM a chance it (&^%$ me in the ass, screwed up my registry and made Skyrim impossible to play. I detest having to re-install this game in the first place because that means re-installing my mods and going through hell to get them all to play nice with each other AGAIN.

I'm quite content with obmm but if Prideslayer can make FOMM work with TES then all the better, I really like FOMM. I tried Mod Organizer but that didn't go according to plan either. I've gotten away from non-manual mod installs. less headaches doing a full install if it isn't in ESP/BSA format. at least for me.

I started manually installing with Morrowind. And still did it with Skyrim.....at first. But I've found MO to be a far, far better option. I can take mods out, add more, remove them, add more (ad infinitum) and never do anything at all to my Skyrim install. It will still be as clean and new as it was when I first installed it, meaning I will NEVER have to reinstall it ever again. Plus MO lets me just move mod priorities to change what overwrites what (over "reads" is actually more accurate), which totally bypasses the point you just made. ;) AND, check this, I can have multiple profiles in MO with each profile having it's own set of mods and game saves.

As a former manual installer and NMM/OBMM/FOMM user I can tell you that none of those are viable options after using Mod Organizer. It really IS that good, and then some, and also works with my FO3, FONV, Oblivion and Morrowind games. :o

I manually install most of my mods. It's a long process, which the only time that I do hate it is when I'm doing reinstalls. I rather break down a FOMOD package mod so I can manually intall it. There's only a few mods to me that are exceptional. Like Gopher's HUD stuff and other mods that requires his Unified HUD Project.

"I sympathise with the people who have been caught by this, but you got caught by this because you aren't using your common sense. Please, for your sake, keep your wits about you and don't let your guard down when downloading files on the internet.

If you don't have a firewall, or if your firewall does not warn you when new, unrecognised and untrusted software is trying to connect to the internet please follow these steps:

  1. Find your router
  2. Rip your router away from any connected cables
  3. Open the nearest window
  4. Throw your router out of it
  5. Close the window

Honestly, get a firewall, install it, and understand how it works. Without one it's very possible your system is a drone in a botnet and likely a part of the perpetual problem of the internet that is DDoS'ing, something that we're no stranger to here."

I'm sure this is going well with those people who have to disable their AV and/or firewall in order to get the latest NMM to communicate with their servers.

More glorious condescension from our friends at the Nexus. As such, I just can't help myself....

It's no surprise why the "community" at the Nexus is comprised of such...  well insert your favorite expression there. I've done enough!

Yeah, instead of taking personal responsibility for poor security, let's insult the intelligence of our users and shift the blame to them instead.

Dick move, Mr. Scott.

I think you're giving some of those users too much credit.  Start reading the comments and stop when you reach the post where someone commented, "I am going to be the Adolf Hitler of jQuery!

I try not to read too much when I'm over there whatever they have might contagious and reading too much of their shit gives me a headache and I don't want to lose any braincells or I will slip down to their brainwave level.

It's not just the mods/admins/D0rky. The users there tend to be very... ummm.... they're not the brightest bunch.

I feel bad bringing this up again but not a few weeks ago they were complaining about the new feature that tells you what mods are requirements for other mods before you download them. They were complaining because you have to click one more time before getting what you want.

Not only that but I can prove it's the same people who give authors hell over their game being broken because they didn't read instructions clearly given in the descriptions to their mods...

At any rate, to me this just sounds like D0rky trying to make people stop downloading MO over NMM and only that... because he's a stupid cunt. Technically he has access to all the files, uploads, user accounts, etc. on the Nexus.

Your best bet to find an actual conversation on nexus is to friend someone from LL who's also a nexus member. That turned out to be my only line of communication for a while, 'cause I got locked out of LL for a couple weeks due to issues with IE's privacy system (long story...Ashal ended up being my only connection to the other modders...thank you Ashal).

I get my "quota": up by PMing my friends. I occasionally help people in need, but my MO stuff stays here. I am a member of LL 1st, and Nexus 2nd. They can talk all the shit they want about LL, but these mods are pretty complicated, and "they" know it. We have some geniuses here.

What's funny is that all that typing was for nothing, the comments were mostly childish arguing about the spelling in other comments with neither side knowing how to spell LOL.

Through out your router? oh that's intelligent.

This is usually where you create a bigger, more cohesive community and tear a regime community down by offering the same and more. :P I've seen good sites and services go down by mass migrations when moderators become unfair, it's like a circle where the mods get on edge over people turning negative, banning more, thus earning more  negativity. It's where a community like Nexus should fire some of its board and hire new moderators. Usually a few vocal ones from the opposition as good PR so people say "Ah, good people are mods now, all is well again". Nexus is going down a slippery road. Sure the file service remains, but their community may run empty.

But there's something you can do! Release mods on other communities first and a month later on the nexus. If nexus is always late with mods, people will lose interest in it.

Posted

Well since the moderators have the same point of view as the owner I doubt that will happen if nothing else they would just hire more of the same type moderators. Releasing mods on other sites is good but why not just cut the middle man out completely and just don't upload to the nexus at all? I think you would see some changes if no one was giving them anything mods money publicity scraps of meat.

That was pretty serious. anyone know what the nick name of this user was who uploaded the virus ??

That's the point of the Trojan. They take YOUR login info, and uploads it again with YOUR account. Meaning, it's not a single account doing it, and it's impossible for a user to know.

Posted

So they don't even know how it got there in the first place ?? was it an add virus like the last time ?? i don't see any info on it only warnings from not downloading stuff from new users. Witch i never did anyway.

There is currently an individual who is placing trojans within well known pieces of Skyrim software, such as the Skyrim Character Editor and even Skyrim Mod Organizer, and then uploading them as new files here on Skyrim Nexus.

Once your computer was infected it sent all of your passwords stored in your browser and sent them to the script kiddy's email address. The script kiddy is then using the details he has stolen from users "unlucky" enough to be exploited in this way, logging in to their accounts on the Nexus and then uploading another trojan via the same method.
