I was seriously googling "Isaac newton was not an alchemist" and kept coming up against walls

Believing you are studying alchemy and studying alchemy are not necessarily the same thing.

and the Jewish star (I'm totally reaching here) has nothing to do with Newton or alchemy

The six pointed star pre-dates Judaism never mind its use by Judaism. If I'm not mistaken, the star entered Judaism through mysticism (Qabala, Merkabah?). If I'm not mistaken Newton knew Hebrew.

I have 65 alchemy texts (essays and books) on my computer and have read many, many more.

If you want to know what alchemy is read this book:

Lu K'uan Yu (translator) - Taoist Yoga; Alchemy and Immortality.

"A translation, with introduction and notes, of The Secrets of Cultivating Essential Nature and Eternal Life (Hsin Ming Fa Chueh Ming Chih) by the Taoist Master Chao Pi Ch'en, born 1860".

My trains of thought get befuddled when my cache totally sucks (for whatever reason.)

It says "Posted 1 hour ago" above me, but it wasn't there five minutes ago when I went off to look for a movie-quote about polishing swords.

Then I re-re-read the part about belief and actual stuff.

It's too deep, I cannot conceive of it...

*anyway* I never found the quote on my mind (Henry viii?)

PS the picture sucks and it's misquoting the quote in my head.

I helped my neighbor shovel their driveway today. I felt bad because he kept trying to give me a reward. I just kept turning him down by saying he owes me nothing I just wanted to help. Then the next thing I know he got Jet's delivering me a deep dish and some cheese bread. Oh lord I felt so sick to my stomach. I felt guilty. I never had this before where I help someone and they give back. This just felt so off and strange. I eventually pulled myself together and enjoyed the food. But still it was just so weird. Now I gotta find a way to pay him back. Feels wrong.

Knee jerk reaction right there.

You don't have a clue what alchemy is. It is not a form of proto-chemistry - hence my comment about academic books.

Is astronomy outdated? Sixty minute hours? Calculations to five decimal places?

Depends on whether or not people still think stars are shining dots on swirly discs.

Fun Fact #1

Those who saw alchemy as a get rich quick scheme by converting base metals into gold were called 'puffers' and 'blowers' by alchemists. Despite what is always trotted out in docus etc, Isaac Newton was not an alchemist.

Never said he was.

Fun Fact #2

Some of the Babylonian astronomical calculations were only surpassed after the advent of satellites. Many of said calculations and observations are still in use.

Like I said outdated.

Fun Fact #3

George Lucas was a great admirer of Joseph Campbell (who understood nothing of mythology) and wrote Star Wars as an attempt at Campbells 'Hero With A Thousand Faces' (Monomyth) theme.

I follow George RR Lucas stuff very casually.

When they work out the bugs yes. We'll see what happens when the cyberpunk future comes about.

How so? You made a statement which was factually incorrect.

What depends on this? What people believed stars were shining dots?

Well, didn't get what I wanted this weekend. But it doesn't suck because I will get what I need instead. Mind: 1, Heart: 0 in a never ending conflict of interests. :classic_tongue:

Somewhere in the dark ages can't remember exactly. If you want to look for it go right ahead. Or maybe it was nowadays. Depends on who you ask:tounge_wink:

"We all want the same things"- pfft.

No.

We all usually want very different things for vastly different reasons, but our needs are basically the same. We face very different problems specific to area, age, gender, finances, ect. and we usually care little for the problems of others. In fact, we are greedy, intolerant, territorial and fiercely competitive to get as much out of this life for ourselves and loved ones as possible. What keeps us working together (anymore anyway) some is fear of consequences (ie. being hurt or killed, arrested, losing our homes and loved ones) or just a need from others to help temporarily to attain something we can't by ourselves.

This has (and still is) demonstrated time and again where an individual/group is down, needs help, and are thus humbled into peaceful coexistence with others. But the minute they recover or gain strength and are sure they can take more from life (often at someone else's expense), they do so. Sadly, they also often "take" from the very people that helped or supported them in the first place out of convenience.

Fortunately, some people do evolve past their base instincts and nature, tempering their desires with compassion, understanding and willingness to cooperate to achieve something that everyone can benefit from- not just themselves. Most haven't though. Admittedly, it is a constant struggle to stop obsessing about our lot in life and realize that we are all in this together regardless.

> Anyone watched "The last of us" series? I do with my luvs. We have no concrete opinion about it. Sometimes it is very boring and sometimes it is exciting and interesting. One more thing, the girl, Ellie, reminds us so much on our pet manager, Malicija by look and behavior.

Well - actually it's a computer game - after shooting a series...

...you have to like these special end-time scenarios.
Call me old - I'm really "old" at 60 - but I still prefer productions I saw when I was "adolescent" - such as "Omega-Man"
(https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Omega-Mann - I think you'll find that either in your native language or in English)
the newer film version... is... well... not good (so for me)

I am a child of the "Eastern Block" - born and raised - and this special culture (with all its absurd excesses) is part of my own story...

...maybe it's because I like the weird humor and extreme exaggerations from the game "Atomic Hearth" so much.
Especially since the player's cynicism - i.e. his comments - is currently speaking something from the "soul".

Music is to minds what hammers are to stone- keep hitting it and eventually it will break. Music doesn't need to contain subliminal messaging because they already speak directly to the heart. :classic_biggrin:

Right, this is going to be a bit of a rant, but where I work there is a main bathroom that has been permanently divided by a divider wall, with a gap at the top and bottom, and in the bathroom, in one stall, the stall I am sitting in right now, there is a small trash can. Now, I don't know if this is a cultural thing or what, but I work with a bunch of people from central and south America, and for some reason they always throw their shitty toilet paper into the trash instead of flushing it down the toilet. It's disgusting, and it makes the whole bathroom smell like shit for way longer than is necessary...

FLUSH YOUR USED ASS WIPE DOWN THE FUCKING TOILET!...

Why is this even something that exists as a problem? I don't understand..

In this case I was grossed out enough by the smell that I dumped the contents of the trash can into the toilet and flushed the whole lot (not that there was much to flush, but still), and the smell went away in like 5 seconds...

This has nothing to do with culture - but with the fact that the sewage treatment plants there cannot cope with the cellulose produced by the toilet paper...

...alternatively, these countries also have a seat wash basin (aka bedet) to wash the buttocks or the vaginal area.

But the Japanese are taking it to extremes in this area -> WC-Waschomat

That makes sense, but in North America that's not really a problem.. I mean the toilet paper IS a problem but we manage to deal with it. It's actually wipes and condoms that are a bigger issue.

You manage to deal with it because your grandfathers took a lot of money and built such infrastructures...

...today you hardly have any money to get them.
It looks similar in other industrialized countries - but the decline in the USA (I'm not that well informed about Canada) is quite crass.

However, the other states on your double continent never had such a "golden age" - ergo their infrastructure is not that well developed.

In my opinion, you have a bad habit -> you throw kitchen waste into the sewage system ... after you have shredded it.
There are even extra spout shredders for kitchen sinks - I really only know that from your country.

That there are 4-5 more rats in the sewage system than there are residents in the respective city... why are you still surprised - when you wash fresh food in front of their paws every day.

I the city there is usually some kind of rat problem, also roaches like the sewers, and yes pretty much every household has garbage disposal used for grinding up food waste.

In my house, most food waste goes into the trash though. Chicken bones are actually bad to put down the disposal, but people do it anyway.

Lords of the Fallen was released in 2014. A 'sequel' (by a different company) called Lords of the Fallen 2 was due to be released in 2017. This sequel is now being touted for 2023 with the new title of 'Lords of the Fallen'. ? ?

I would love to know the 'reasoning' behind that new name. It can't be that they are trying to cash in on the original game's popularity as the OG was panned.

==============

Meanwhile Pathfinder: WotR has just released a DLC which follows the current trend of DLCs consisting of little more than some sort of novelty. In this case it involves a new NPC who can be recruited (gasp). The novelty being that the NPC is a shifter who can shift into griffin form (shifters are a playable class but the griffin part is unique to this NPC).

=============

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has just released and, knock me down with a feather, the PC version is buggy.
