1 hour in.. puked my fucking guts out three times now. There was stuff in there I don't remember eating.. migraine is a level 8-10. That looks 'ok'. But really at level 9 I usually go to the hospital so it's a bad one. Stomach's all in a twist. It's 30+celcius still outside and I want to open the door, but the alarm outside (there's a big shopping mall I live above) is still going off. As soon as I open the window to get fresh air the sound fills my home and I almost can't hear myself.

 

I'm *this* close to grabbing a hammer, walking outside, and smashing every fucking alarm speaker that I see or hear in that fucking shopping center because apparently nobody is there to fucking turn it off anyway.

 

Called the police. They are sending someone over. Apparently some other neighbors have woken up now too and are also complaining.

Ahh I wasn't clear. it was 8 out of 10. So 'still doable, but bad'. I went outside actually for an hour long walk and that cleared out most of it. Then I ate an English breakfast and that pushed out the last of it. I'm feeling much better now, 2 hours later.

It's not about advertising, it's about how games are designed today:

>make a good game

>then make it deliberately worse

>sell the solution for the problem you've created

 

You make a good game to get people invested in it. Then as you progress in the game, you encounter small roadblocks here and there that get bigger and bigger so the fun you're having diminishes. But you really like and enjoy the game, so you're buying a few power ups from the ingame store to make life a little bit easier. The game even tells you that you save a lot of value if you purchase in bulk and that you're supporting the developers, what's not to like? After all, you don't want the people that make your favorite games run out of money, do you? You also randomize what people get. There's a lot of shit nobody wants and only a few pieces people actually want to have, so you make the odds abysmally small so people have to purchase a lot of these surprise lootboxes to get what they want, if they do at all. But the individual price for a lootbox is relatively small, everybody can afford them.

 

And if you don't fall for these tricks, you're not the target audience. There's enough people out there who do fall for this shit and it's aimed at them, not at you. You're a case for R&D, where publishers refine the psychological abuse to the theoretical point where they're able to get to everyone. They're still far away from that goal, of course, but make no mistake, they're working towards it.

 

To add the icing on the cake, you deploy smokescreens to pander to progressives, tricking them to defend you're multibillion dollar company on social media. Ever wondered why EA made Battlefield 5 right after the PR-disaster that was Star Wars Battlefront 2? They went from 'OMG THEY'RE SELLING GAMBLING TO CHILDREN' to 'EA SHOWS DEM SEXIST GAMER NAZIS WITH FEMALE SOLDIERS IN WW2' in the span of a single game. You also get bonus points because there actually will be a small minority of sexists that complain about the game, so you strawman anyone that criticizes your company or your product as such.

One of my favourite game series subreddit is absolutely overrun by beta cucks ( mainly because community manager is 5/10 crazed far leftist gamur gurl so beta orbiters flock to suck up to her in hopeless attempt of getting tail ) and corporate dicksuckers. You cant post ANYTHING negative about their increasingly shitty games, scummy DLC practices, "you hate strong whamyn" deflections and their incompetent staff without being downvoted into oblivion and subject to the flurry of passive agressive bullshit comments making fun of everything from your flair, nickname, calling you an teenaged edgelord, muh alt right nazi MRA white nationalist yadda yadda yadda, you know the drill.

The voting system as well as the moderators enforce that the hivemind always prevails. 4chan isn't necessarily better when it comes to the hivemind but your posts won't get drowned in downvotes or deleted by biased moderators (most of the time). 4chan being anonymous also helps because it makes ad hominem as well as guilt by association type arguments pretty much impossible.

This group of dutch 'scientists'.. they say.. 'Women are being discriminated against on the work floor in IT'.

 

Now I have to start and say that as part of my job I recruit people. So whenever I read this, I pip up and LISTEN to what is being said, because it pertains to ME. I'm the recruiting party. So my company works exclusively with head hunters. And I tell them: If you can find a woman for any job she has twice as much chance to get the job.

So as you can see, it does pertain to me. As I do discriminate, FOR women on the workfloor, not AGAINST.

 

And I have no noble reasons to do so.

I have found that women in IT are often far more capable and responsible then the men are. I run operational IT depts, this means business as usual, support, admin stuff, not development. And in that role you have to be able to do two things, very well: Say NO when you need to. Be NURTURING of your technical environment, as if it's your baby.

 

And I've found that in my experience women generally scored better on both accounts.

Again, not for the reasons that you might think...

 

When a girl that works in my department says NO, somehow it's accepted and often not even debated.

When a man gives the same message, I get escalations and have to deal with shit.

It's just my experience. I think women are just better equipped to say NO politely, very likely because they are forced to do so much more than men are.

They interviewed a bunch of candidates, fed the normalized results into the AI to pick out the qualities from candidates.

 

Before running they claimed: "Men are going to get it much tougher, once we filter out gender in the hiring process".

They run the program and have it make an analysis on all given results.

 

The A.I. favors MEN.

Not just by a bit.

OVERWHELMINGLY.

 

The reason for this, is of course clear.

Most women aren't INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH TECHNOLOGY.

 

That is why I 'discriminate' FOR women in my team, because we have 82 men and 4 women working there.

We would LOVE to even it out.

 

But no  women are applying for the fucking positions in IT, OK?

No seriously.. Name the last girl that told you any of these things: "Wow.. I'd LOVE to be a network engineer."... "Or a VMWare specialist.."..... "Application Management sounds AWESOME!"... "I've been working to become a Data Analyst so I'm learning C#, T-SQL and R to create datawarehouses.".. "MS Power BI is awesome!"

 

Just like they are not applying to be a plumber, or carpenter, or trash collector, or toilet repairman. Humans choose their surroundings and their jobs, based on their PERSONALITY. Their disposition. We (our culture) should get that into our thick skulls for once. Post Modernism (e.g. Thinking that 'you can be whatever you want to be') is a fucking fairytale.. a disease.. and it's destroying our society. If you're SHY you're never going to be a successful show person. If you're WEAK you're never going to be a policeman or a fireman or marine. If you're LOVING then you're going to want to take care of people, become a nurse or psychiatrist. If you're CONFRONTING you are wanting to go into business.

 

It's so fucking simple that it's almost daft.

I get that you want to escape the clutches of reality.

Everyone wants to be something they are not.

 

But you can't be WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE. You can only be the best version of yourself. And in order to that, you need to know yourself. What you like, what pisses you off. What makes you happy.

 

And I can tell anyone reading this: If you don't like your job and you are living in a Western society.. then you don't know who you are yet or you didn't understand yet that you need to choose the career that fits your personality. And if you are the unlucky SOB that does, but never got the opportunity to actually do what you love (e.g. ME always wanted to make music my profession but that's impossible in the EU, basically) then hey.. join the club. That's reality.. you can't be whatever you want to be. There's a chance you COULD be. But it's never guaranteed. So choose the second best thing, closest to your personality.

The STEM gender paradox is nothing new, I've even referenced it a couple of times here on LL iirc.

The gist of it is, the more equal and progressive a country is, the more regressive the gender roles turn out to be (i.e. almost no women in STEM fields or construction work, but lots of nurses and doctors, more part-time than full time jobs etc.)

 

If a country has regressive gender roles, the more progressive the distribution gets, in Iran the women are dominating the STEM fields, for example. The solution, of course, according to gender studies, is to further positively discriminate for women, despite the data showing that this has the exact opposite effect. Or to double down on concepts like toxic masculinity (men shame women into doing 'appropiate' jobs) or redefining harassment (woman feels uncomfortable in the presence of a man is harassment) and such to the point where a segregation between the sexes would only be the logical conclusion but it's actually meant to pin the blame on someone else. I personally think that if you praise someone just for existing, that person is less inclined to grow as a person because why would you?

 

Anyway, ignoring actual data or more specifically, undermining data with unfalsifiable phantoms like unconscious bias or internalized sexism is nothing new but it's a problem nonetheless. That's not to say that data should always be taken at face value and that it should never be examined and deconstructed but if you do it, you have to use scientific methods to do so, not go into it with a 'For that which must not cannot be' attitude.
