It's not that men have a necessarily higher sex drive, it's just that men on average have much less access to sex. Which is why e-girls are so popular, you pay money to hear some nice words from them. It's a pretty big issue and I don't think anyone without any form of mental illness would spent thousands of bucks just to hear a woman on your screen say some nice words.

I had this whole musty rant going on about nice people and the things they used to say.

A lady here is nice, I hope she stays. 10000 guys and one nice lady.

which is why (I am totally ranting now) there are biggie threads about AI and bots.

...............

and alexa, siri, (I wonder if ok-google ..)

as opposed to maybe "Alex" and "Sir"

"Please sir, what time is it?"

"Time for you to shut up!"

"Yes, Sir."

"It's 8AM. Not that you deserved to know"

"Thank you, sir"

There is a major difference between men and women and I'm not talking about the physical body here, - the difference I am talking about is one of the inner workings of the mind.  Women value companionship, honesty, security and fidelity.  All of which are essential to bearing children.  (There are more subtle things as well that factor in, but I don't want to start writing a book) These are ancient things that have been sewn into woman by evolution over thousands of years.  Modern life and fashionable trends have blurred some of these, but they still exist.  Very young women when hormones are raging and their bodies are changing will make mistakes and can be easily deceived by smooth talking men looking for sex, but the chances are high that as they become older they become more wary and less likely to be taken in.

What does this mean?  Basically that any man approaching a woman with sex on his mind is going to be assessed on a number of levels and more often than not rejected.   Women certainly do have a sex drive, but it's not so overt as it is in men and if they are occupied with something else and an unknown man approaches them they will usually feel annoyed which makes rejection even more certain.

And that is why there are so many men complaining that they aren't getting any.

Yeah that's nice and all until you see women hitting on a fake profile on tinder that looks like a 10/10 but admits being a pedophile in the bio. Evo-psych is mostly nonsense because it has no scientific basis, it's just guessing until someone goes 'hey that sounds like it makes sense' which is a futile effort, because nature doesn't care about sense or what works. Nature and evolution are extremely inefficient in ensuring that any species survives or thrives, evidenced by the fact that more than 99.9% of all species that ever existend on our planet are now extinct. Humans are extremely malleable, which is shown by how vastly different your outcome is depending on your early childhood. If you don't learn to socialize and how to behave civilized by the age of four, you're fucked for the rest of your life because nothing of it will feel natural to you. You can learn that stuff later on in life, but it is similar with languages - the one your parents speak will be the one you will be most fluent in until the day you die. There's no education needed to learn your first language, simply being around people who speak it will teach you all you need know, that's how malleable humans are. During early childhood, that is.

So no, we won't conclude the nature vs nurture debate here, but singling out either the one or the other as the primary cause of a specific behavior will most often lead to a dead end. Online dating apps for example completely invalidate your theory about female behavior. There's loads of women just looking for casual sex, they don't need men to trick them into that first. Which isn't surprising because sex feels good, who would've thought.

As I said I didn't want to write a book so I kept it simple, - and on-line dating is very much a modern trend that has never happened before in human history.  On-line dating has never interested me and I put in the same basket as the email I got today from a Nigerian telling me I've just won 4 million dollars.  For a woman on-line dating is a very good way to get hurt, ripped off and scammed and nobody with any sense should get involved in it.

I am a woman by the way who has worked in professions that are very much dominated by women and I also have a daughter who has always been quite open with me about her relationships and her social life so I do have a window on what women really think about men.  Personally I've always found sex rather boring unless it's with someone I care alot about and I'm not alone in thinking this way.

I'd say that people get used and hurt when it comes to dating in general but especially online dating, yes. I don't like the narrative that women are always the helpless victims that get tricked into whatever, this has some nasty implications and denies women agency and subsequently responsibility for their behavior. Look, if you do the same 'mistake' a couple of dozen tines in the span of a few years you can't really speak about it being a mistake anymore.

Case in point... Yeah... Natalie Portman as Thor.

WTF? She's a TWIG.

A mallet swinging... TWIG.

Center of gravity, anyone?

I dislike superhero BS and mostly ignore it anyway, but damn. This zero sum erasure of male heroes in favor of 125 pound women twirling 200 pound men around in the air...

I remember the 80s. I kinda grew up in them, and Stranger Things is a pile of plastic garbage that can kiss my ass. But I digress. My female contemporaries just *knew* that they were kickass. They didn't need constant coddling. They didn't need men to "take a back seat;" there was plenty of room up front. NOT ZERO SUM.

What changed? What happened?

Is it just laziness and cowardice? Oh, no no no... We can't make an all new female superhero IP. Too risky! Let's just give Thor a vagina. Pesky masculinity, anyway.

What happens when boys have nothing/no one left to look up to?

Woop Woop, it has its reason why male heroes be replaced by women.
Humanity is beginning to rethink and blame is the Y chromosome. :classic_laugh:
no seriously, the men will disappear from this planet, it will take some time, but it will happen.
why do superheroes always have to be men?
it's an American cliché, it would also be unthinkable, that a woman becomes president of the United States, as is the case in Germany. :classic_wink:

I would really have to agree with that.  I got used and hurt a couple of times when I was a teenager then I got smart and saw the writing on the wall.  I did end up marrying someone who seemed fine, but had major mental health disorder and they knew how to hide it really well.  I only got married because I wanted children and it was only after my two were born that the hell started.  Eventually I decided it was better to be on my own and I walked away from that marriage with absolutely nothing.  But nothing is ever a total disaster and my marriage failure led me into going back to school and tertiary level study, - and then a career as a social worker for the adult mental health service.  My two now adult children are the best two people in my life and I'm alone (single no partner), but not lonely.  And that's my advice, it's better to be alone, but not lonely, than put up with someone who is second (or third or fourth) best in your life.

As someone who has mosaic genetics I really have to agree with this.  Provided that the human race isn't killed off by sea level rise and the increasing major storm events that are happening (and will increase) around the world, - or even plain human destructive stupidity, - I do believe that we will eventually become a single gendered race.  I'll be long gone by then, but that's my prayer, - Goddess make it so.

Dude. Are you TRYING to be a contrarian cliché, or does it just come naturally to you?

What glory has Angela Merkel brought to Germany?

Identitiarian horseshit. Put it back in your pack, and haul off.

I wouldn't give two shits if the next POTUS is a woman, as long as she is a good steward. A steady Captain of the Ship.

I see no contradiction.  And I made up my mind about this years ago.

Place your bets on whether or not the nations of the world can work together to achieve this.  My bet is with 'No'.

My bet is with, "It's Bullshit." China and India are the second and third largest world economic houses, and neither of them seem to give much of a shit outside of contemporary opportunism.

And the polar ice caps are being insubordinate! Al Gore decreed that they be gone by now.

Wew. We're getting pretty political. My bad. I've contributed fully.

Any psychologist worth their salt would ask what you did/felt during these times because nobody ever thinks of him-/herself as the 'villain' so to speak. Yet the only constant in your life is, well, you. Which isn't to say that you're at fault or guilty for the bad things that happen to you, it's just that pointing fingers at others doesn't really do anything. There's mannerisms, perception, memories etc. that all influence a person on a subconscious level and if you end up in bad company all the time the question isn't why everyone is a bad person, the question is why you always end up with those people. There's a lot of reasons for that sort of behavior but the most common form is some sort of self-punishment because people deep inside think they deserve the shit they're going through. Again, not saying that any of this applies to you personally, it's just that humans are complicated and often don't even have a clue about their own inner workings whatsoever, which is why you have psychiatrists and other trained people that help those that need it.

Yes very true.  And yes I did go through what could be called an 'awakening'  which caused some huge changes in my self perception and that enabled me to put my life back together in a much less self-toxic way.  I certainly don't blame my 'ex' for anything because they didn't ask to have a profound mental illness either, but the most important thing is I stopped thinking that I deserved to be in that situation and I stopped thinking that the people who can yell loudest at me must be right.

Cancel Culture as a whole. I've been quite vocally opposed to censorship since I was a freshman in high school and lately I've been seeing a real push by moralists and others to come down even harder on porn. Their reasoning is often based on ignorance and demonstrably false claims. To which I've always countered by using their own logic against them and advocating taking their ideas to the logical extreme and censoring everything. The whole idea is to show folks that what they're asking for can work against them just as readily as it works for them, or to expose their hypocrisy and selective morals and thus discredit them and their ideas. Not to mention give people an object lesson in what happens when we don't take some personal responsibility for what we see or expose our kids to and demand governments do things for us.

The same logic about having the government do things for us even applies to loot boxes and micro transactions to an extent. As much as I want some sort of regulation to control both, I know all too well what sorts of nasty legal precedents it can lead to. It's one of those lose-lose situations: we lose if the anti-loot box bill passes because it opens the door for further regulation of video games, we lose if it doesn't pass because that will just encourage companies to continue normalizing monetization scams. And I simply don't have the faith in humanity to hope that it will wake up and smell the bullshit that is loot boxes and micro transactions of all types, cosmetic or otherwise. One alternative I've heard is having the government put such heavy taxes on such things that companies either lose anything they gain or raise their prices so much that customers lose interest. Somehow I doubt even that would work.

I gotta start watering the plants around here instead of bitching about the fucking hot air...and in that spirit,

what was so profound about his illness?

I play "sims" a helluva lot lately, and in that (modded) game there's a ton of BDSM.

I sort of ignore the age group the game was designed for and who created the mods....

And so right now it was cool winter on an island, and my prostitute character was taking a much needed break.

I built her a bigger house to weather the monsoon, and she was playing the piano for friends.

Then *I* went to go to the bathroom, and suddenly this place was a swamp, all hot and a little smelly.

Wow.

Talk about "mental illness".

But I only had a vision of BDSM for someone who changed into a different person, once the victim was tied up. ("victim", "prey", "bottom", apologies for not knowing the lingo)

I agree mostly, but you also have to take into account that stuff like lootboxes exploits vulnerable people. There aren't a whole lot of people who buy this crap, but those that do spend a lot of money on them and since they cost virtually nothing to make, you have a big profit for no effort on the backs of those that are vulnerable to exploitation. Make no mistake, companies spend a lot of time and money researching how they can 1) make more people vulnerable and 2) extract as much cash from those that are affected. At the end of the day, I don't think it makes that much of a difference if you're being crushed by the heel of big corporations or the government.

when it comes to porn and excessive consumption, that's mostly a symptom of our time where it's easy to fall into social isolation. Banning or regulating porn won't make anyone better, they're just going to seek the next low effort dopamin kick their burned out brains can think of. But I don't think they really want to protect anyone, it's just that a sanitized environment allows for easier consumption and many mental health problems usually gets people to spend more money on things they don't need in order to compensate for being unhappy. The perfect consumer is a mindless zombie with an unending appetite.
