Juliette Tango Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Major Morris faces an extraterrestrial incursion in The Xanthi Mystery Episode 17: "The Base Attack" 17 - The Base Attack.mp4 8
Abandoner Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Well this was more challenging than I thought it would be, there were too many directions to go in, so I went in two instead of one! Starting with a more traditional tough American look followed by a somewhat more European modern look, with bonus sports bike! Which doesn't look very good, but hey, what can you do. 16

hagga00 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 @Abandoner Great work! Love both the classic American biker girl and the more sleek European girl. Amazing! Hope she liked to ride motorcycles ? Btw, love the posing you did next to the motorcycle. Looks like a real photo event. Where did you get the motorcycle asset? 2

It seems you work well under pressure. She looks mighty fine as a biker, especially in the European style (a personal preference ?)! Great pics with the bike! 4

Haha, ohhh I wish that was true, luckily for me, there are some amazing CC creators out there that make it easier. Thanks! 6

Abandoner Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 @2cool4u_1 Thank you, that is the part I find the most fun or frustrating, depending on the day. Finding the right clothes for a specific sim can be a real pain, then you have to go on a CC hunt, which is also a pain! 4

Abandoner Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 For a long time I've wanted to make a Japanese sim and couldn't get it to work, for whatever reason. Finally, the stars aligned and it did work. This game is still fickle though. 9

JMTe Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 I got sick of seeing all sims have the same height, so I made an exception for my self-made mod limit rule and finally used height sliders. (Seriously, even teens have the same height as their parents... -_-) This one here is the first shorty I ever made ? I like how it turned out. 15
Mariana Soprano Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 I thought it would be an idea to give that Simeon Silversweater an own baby with his beloved Kalama wife. But she had problems with the birth for some days - what the heck?! Oh my poor simmie! No way to help her! She called her friend Hairy. Hairys only idea was "Have a nap, sweetheart, if our stupid user leaves the game and comes back, it will be done - trust me!" So she did... and I left the game. When I enabled the Silversweater householde again.... I fear, my Hairy is muuuuch more clever than me! *lol 7

Some ethnicities are harder than others, and I think some of that is on me, but a lot of that is due to limitations of the game. A millennia ago, I mentioned to @snowdog04 that I was making some sims based on X-Men characters, which included a Native American girl. I've been meaning to share them, but RL has been keeping me super busy, and I've had next to no time to work on them since the beginning of August. The other ethnicities in that collection include; American, African, Chinese, Russian, Irish-American, English-American (I'm assuming), Scottish, and Japanese. The Scottish girl, Rahne Sinclair, is near completion (excluding makeup). I'll try to finish the last of her outfits, then I'll share what I have (hopefully). ? 3

Look at lots of pictures of the ethnicity you're trying to reproduce. You'll start picking up on what makes someone really look like they're from where you want them to be from. Autumn turned out to be pretty easy for me to get right, because one of my closest friends is Native. So when I finally discovered Fine Detail Mode, I knew how to pull an Asian preset into the right shape. Then you usually think of strong cheek bones. The fact that her face isn't round kind of makes her one of the Plains or Southwest nations, so there's her story-- a half-Navajo who left the Rez so she didn't have to put up with crap from peers with less Native blood than her, because she got it from the wrong side. That, and elsewhere she could have a real career, instead of driving an hour to work at Wal-Mart. Also the easiest to find Native style jewelry is turquoise, most often associated with the Navajo. 1
Mariana Soprano Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I m very very sorry but, I think we should remember the title of this thread and use PM for other views.
mrrakkonn Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 While Snowdog went into some details, the core of that post seems to me be that making sims that look like different ethnicities and races isn't really that hard, it just requires practice and getting familiar with how to get different appearances in CAS, for instance by studying reference picutres. It might very well be true that base game CAS can be a bit restricted if you want to make non-white sims, especially as regards differently-textured hairs and darker skintones, but CC goes a long way to alleviating that. As facial features, it really is all about starting from the foundation of having chosen the right presets and editing from there, that's what restricts the faces you want to make, and by an large the base game presets are sufficient, though custom ones can be useful, but are by no means necessary. The same goes for overlays, you don't need eye overlays in order to make a sim that looks Asian for instance. What you need to do, and I know this as well as anyone, is to acknowledge that left to your own devices you will more often than not reproduce the same facial features over and over again and getting away from that is always difficult and remains difficult even as you try to avoid doing it. 2
2cool4u_1 Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 @snowdog04 @mrrakkonn Thanks for the advice, but I actually made the sims months ago. I agree with what both of you said, especially the part about picking the right preset. Even with the right preset, you don't have 100% control. Maybe I can make a Japanese sim look Japanese, but might not be able to get it exactly the way I picture. I can't make certain anime eyes for example. Another challenge I face is that they're comic book characters. Aside from aging, real people look like themselves all the time. Comic book characters appearances vary slightly from time to time, and greatly from artist to artist. Additionally, most of the time they only vaguely resemble their ethnicity, if at all. I need to combine everything together. Dani, for example is Cheyenne (Native American). She has long waist-length black hair in the comics. While studying various Cheyenne women (and men), I only came across one with near-black brown hair. Most had light to dark brown. Some artists have recently colored Dani's hair brown (even though it specifically says black). 1 hour ago, Mariana Soprano said: I m very very sorry but, I think we should remember the title of this thread and use PM for other views. I hope to have pictures soon, depending on how busy I get. In the meantime, here are some pics of Rahne Sinclair (Scottish).? The first four are from August 20, the last from September 12. Thanks to @erplederp for the awesome plaid bikini. 11
mrrakkonn Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 @2cool4u_1 If you're making sims from comic book characters or other types of characters where (as you say) the character's appearance can vary widely from artist to artist and over time, or where the art style just doesn't lend itself very well to be used for face references, I'd generally suggest doing what I've been doing for the sims I made based off that Summertime game, which is using pictures of 1 real person that you think has an appearance close enough to what you want for the sim in question and using that as a reference to make a sim. If you get a result you're somewhat happy with then use that sim as the base for your comic book character sim, and make any edits you think are necessary (though doing this I'd highly suggest leaving the presets you chose alone and not changing them). A good way to find reference pictures to use for making sims is to just reverse image search a picture of a person's (or even a sim's) face and see what turns up. And the red-haired girl you posted looks nice
