Darkpig Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 All these microtransactions in videogames worry me a bit. Its like game developers are trying to go back to the days of continually putting quarters in arcade cabinets. Then again money issues go way over my head.

They are specifically trying to repeat the Double Dragon 3 model. That is one thing from the arcade days that no one had any nostalgic attachments which inspires apologia.

Every time you die a few times insert another quarter. You finished a game with your friend insert another quarter. I can see where a game developer would make that jump to the microtransaction model but that doesn't make the practice any less skeevy.
RitualClarity Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 The thing about old arcade games is they were pay to play. You had to pay to play.. literally. Now unlike today's micro-transactions, the games were setup primarily for fun and to attract the most players. If they cost too much or were too hard, the players would leave .. they had to balance the fun vs cost. The game was the exact same game played by everyone. It was a level playing field vs today's micro-transactions that makes changes to the game to make it more playable or adds features that the common player might want. Micro transactions are ADDED to the game. This is vastly different IMO to anything today has. Today producers of video games hobble the game intentionally so as to encourage people to pay for added features that should have already been there. The previous way , nobody complained about other than our parents or guardians about how much money was blown on video games. Today, even the players are upset by what is being given to them. In the p ast once you mastered the game and became quite skilled one quarter could last you all the way to the end. Give you the highest score and make you a local legend. People respected this as it was a level playing field that anyone could attempt to follow and many did.

Also one might remember - like little junkies, we were poppin' quarters for a dopamine high. Getting 'gud' gave one more time for your money, increasing that high in a couple of ways. Longer times playing, Seeing 'new' content, and the one which lasts to this day - player ranking...... In the spirit of LL I wanted to remind - Arcades were a place for 'itchy' teens to mingle (or creep - lol).

Becoming a legend at your game etc. (not to mention wearing out the next person's patience at waiting to play the game ... remember quarter reservations )
Kendo 2 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 And so it begins... Fauci says U.S. has ‘independent spirit,’ but now is the time to ‘do what you’re told’ 3rd paragraph... “I was talking with my U.K. colleagues who are saying the U.K. is similar to where we are now, because each of our countries have that independent spirit,” he said on stage. “I can understand that, but now is the time to do what you’re told.” My response? FUCK.YOU.

FUCK.YOU. Do what you are told or you will be sent to your room... LITERALLY! if you don't you will be spanked... LITERALLY! landess Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 AC: Valhalla - the burned girl abuse. Like it or leave it was the norm when I grew up - now every snowflake has a voice, but it isn't snowing - meaning they're all just flakes. When did companies decide it was a good thing to let the social media trolls, sjws, and other negative social rejects decide policy? That's what wallets are for. If those people get their way, we'll all be sent to our little boxes to sit inside silently till we die - don't move, don't say a word, do as you're told.

Well, the assholes who love lockdowns have already started with their fear-porn about the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases. How many of the cases are asymptomatic or just regular flu? IT DOESN'T MATTER! IT'S COVID REEeeeeee! (<_<)

(<_<) Recently my place of employment had a covid "scare" .. after a week of waiting for test results for the individual that had a fever and not much else.. it was negative. The 'scare" part is an entire department was quarantined for essentially the common flu. Look I get it. You have to be careful as a person and as a business but, they didn't even match up any of the other symptoms. Nothing else pointed to Covid. It would have been different if he had the tell tell signs at least. Some of which are pretty unique. like loss of taste etc. Worst of all I believe those individuals that were forced to stay home won't even get paid for it (other than any vacation or PTO pay that they were entitled to) No Covid pay, even though they were told to stay at home for precautions..

One can never be too safe. Even a heavily armored giant robot would need extra shields. Everyone should wear a pillow suit just to provide protection from stubbed toes and bruised elbows.
