Some of those issues are hardly unique to humans.

 

Consider the housecat when it catches a mouse - how often does the cat torture/torment the mouse before killing it?  Nor is the domesticated housecat killing it for food, as long as the pet owner is feeding it regularly.  And then instead of eating it, how often does the cat bring the dead mouse to its owner as a trophy of its sport hunting?
