I was reverting manually (I do have the files saved from pre release too), but between forgetting where I left off and trying to swap between the two games to test some things out, I was making a mess. This just works well for me. 1

Another argument against Patcher is the fact that before that fateful night, when Steam just downloaded and installed in my sleep the AE version, is that I had a working copy of the game that worked 100% fine with my mods. There's no guessing as to what would happen with the mods if my game's files are all the older version. But, as a last resort, if DepotDownloader doesn't work, then I will be sure to let everyone here know. And, tell everyone that Patcher works. Conversely, I might also do the same if the DepotDownloader files do work. And, if I really really want to try AE before SexLabs Framework 1.70 comes out then I might go with Patcher but at least I have the old binaries as a backup. AE is basically an update to SE with a new name, the CC content included (how much CC you have depends on if you have the free update or bought the bundle with all of the CCs), and an update to the compilier. AE is not a new game in steam, like SE was a new game after LE. If you've been around long enough, then you remember that anytime SE was updated for new CC content, skse broke and had to be updated. Anything that doesn't have an skse plugin should "just work™" on AE without having to be converted like most mods do when going from LE to SE.

Many things are still not working, though. SexLabs Framework needs to be updated to the AE version of SKSE 64 (version 2.1.2+) and many mods built on top of SexLabs Frameworks. Anyways, rolling back your game installation to an earlier version is a real pain in the ass! I did everything that the document said. If people keep saying to use SteamDB and it turns out that after the AE upgrade, it's not possible anymore, what's wrong with my saying that so that future people won't go through what I went through? Edit: I suppose it's the "spam" that doesn't add value to them. Most lurkers on this thread are not clueless fucks who don't know how to disable Steam updates. Yet, some people are, like me. And, I came here looking for help. I'm not the first person to do that; I figured that my findings would value someone. Most people's advice in this thread likely dates back to before AE when using SteamDB was simpler. But, the AE update does wreck everything and makes it super-difficult to get your game back to where it was. I figured that writing about my trouble would help someone. That's it on my end with the spam, though. I said enough about this. I might try the patcher that @zarantha recommended. I might also use Git to back up my game files. I might share a tutorial on how to do that if it works. I've done it before, but I don't recall having satisfactory results. It's usually best to let Vortex install your mods, but it seems to suck when there are many mods all at once. Edited November 19, 2021 by liars_paradox

I was on Windows 7 four years ago the first time I reverted my SSE game (from 1.5.24 back to 1.5.16) using the Depot and Manifest IDs in the Steam Console- the same as I would do it today on my Windows 10 machine if I hadn't been blocking updates for the past four years. Steam DB works independently of your operating system. It's just a place where they host all of the backup executable and vanilla game files. But, they are legit in that they are Steam-compliant user Steam's API to confirm if you should be allowed to access those files. The catch is that those files appear to be hosted on their servers and you can notice how much slower downloading from them is compared to installing using Steam. The challenge with AE is that you have to delete your Data folder. If you don't have a backup of that, then you might be out of luck. I deleted the Data folder and downloaded Core, Disk, and Exe, and allowed Vortex to reinstall everything. But, I think that Vortex doesn't do a great job of that. As crazy as the thought is, I have a backup of the AE data folder and use Git to keep track of file changes. Vortex has a panic attack if it sees that files were updated outside of it. But, I might be better off trying to use Git to rever to an earlier version of the Data folder, but I would lose some of the mod changes that were working 100% fine since my last commit. Also, Git wasn't designed to be used like this, but you can always tell Vortex's changes. And, I have backed up my Data folder using Git before. But, it's not a recommended approach. It's just that Vortex doesn't seem to handle mass deployments well. It will tell you something is installed when it's not, and I noticed that it only does this if you try to install multiple mods in parallel. Like, it's probably using multi-threading for mass deployments, but it's eating up disk I/O errors and isn't handling them. So, you, as a user, are left uninformed if a mod installation failed, and it just acts like it did its job when it didn't. And, you can use Git or IDE's that work with Git to reset only specific files selectively. So, I could `git rm <some AE file>` for the AE files and only `git reset HEAD --hard -- <vanilla SE file>.` Edited November 19, 2021 by liars_paradox

As @fred200 pointed out, PapyrusUtils comes with Sexlab, but more importantly Sexlab is the original source of PapyrusUtils. Other mods started using it as well because it is a useful library, but this is its birthplace. Also, stop posting nonsense about the Steam manifests and SteamDB content. SteamDB is not Steam, not the Steam Console, nor even a Valve product in general. SteamDB is just a 3rd-party (meaning NOT from/by Valve/Steam) online database of the Steam game library. It seems quite clear from community feedback that Valve/Steam (not SteamDB) have added blocks/limitations to the Steam Console for retrieving previous manifests, at least for Skyrim SE. Since these same manifests are still accessible via DepotDownloader, that should indicate to you that Steam has not, in fact, deleted those manifests...either that or someone is maintaining additional illegal download servers. Go use DepotDownloader while it still works and stop whining about this. Your enduser experience with all of this is not typical. You've messed up somewhere and jacked your game all to hell. Any savegames created post tinkering/update on your part should be considered tainted and beyond repair.
