Mass Effect Andromeda for Haters

I've been a fan of ME1-3 and have enjoyed them all with great passion.

Apart from the obviously buggy faces and occasional glitch, is there anything else worth hating about the game? Is the story bad? How is the rest compared to the previous games? I wanted to buy this game but days after its release I saw floods of criticism over this game and now I'm not even sure I want to buy it/support a company that half asses these things (I learned my lesson with Fallout 4 but at least we have mods)

I broke down, bought it and have completed a play through.  I too am a long standing ME fanboy (the happy ending mod was enough to get me over the ME3 ending.........barely).  However, I'd have to agree with most of the posters here, the main story sucks, the bulk of the writing is childish at best and it feels more like a fetch quest filler game for the obsessive compulsive completionist type.  I have zero desire to replay the game.  Zero!  I'm still struggling with that.  I have a new Mass Effect game and I can't even force myself to play it through again.  It is almost surreal.  Think of it, a bioware game with crap writing and a crap story.  It is enough to almost make you give up on gaming.

As to comparing it to the rest of the games.......this game is just that.......the other 3 games....pretty much cut and pasted with a few cosmetic changes into another galaxy.  Other than the kett and the angorans, there is nothing at all new.  Nothing.  Not even a witty story with twists and turns.  Just ME 1 with spectre dead (renamed to pathfinder) and bang... your the new one and the race in the mako to catch up with the bad guy....yep......its back....you just have 2 more wheels this go round.  ME 2 with you trying to beat the archon to meridan.....except with no real sense of urgency AT ALL, to save all the worlds.  Loyalty missions, as was mentioned are only really cool aspect carried over from ME 2.  Then a horribly done fleet battle, a la ME 3 at the end with a ME 2 style boss battle at the end.  Instead of fighting a reaper directly.........you battle an architect and some minions.  Its like they were completely unable to generate a single original thought.  Just sat around in a room and cut this from that game and that from the other games and slapped some new races/genders on things and here you go.....ME A.

I wanted so very much to like this game...........I just can't.  The animations are just the tip of the iceberg in what is wrong with this game.  Insert here Darth Vader's "Noooooo!!!!"   :(

My advice, wait till the thing is 20 bucks or so and then buy it.  You'll have more fun with it and hate yourself less.  Unless you are into the Multiplayer portion.  Then you might be a bit happier.

The MP is a mess of unoptimized code and broken netcode, and the game is balanced for bronze.

Bronze.

In addition you now have to get 10 character cards to max out your points, which makes Ultra Rare characters virtually impossible to max. Essentially the math on maxing your manifest assuming you get an UR in every fifth premium pack is 600 hours minimum.

There are essentially seven guns in the game worth using above bronze out of 60. Seven. Power combos also do a fifth of the damage they do in SP.

They fucked it up. Even the MP.

This will certainly be the last Montreal game I buy, and if Edmonton's new IP turns out to be Destiny-Lite, this game will be the last Bioware period game I buy.

"......can be entertaining with enough weed." Yes, you should be on drugs if you want to enjoy this POS. Or already are.

Wonder what they were smoking when they threw this shit together, though....

Hopefully that is only a place marker for a rework of those sections as they get the actors back to revoice the parts that they have updated (new dialogue) Now if they start fixing this... then maybe they might actually be serious about being a decent game company... ah hell. I doubt that even then. ;) I likely would have a better chance winning the lotto without buying a ticket. :P

I played all ME's and was thrilled how well characters looked like. Comparing previous episode with this one, I still can't get use on ugliness of the characters in Andromeda.  As more I watch the trailers the more I'm pissed how bad they did the job. I do care about story but it's not most important for me. If the game doesn't have "the magnet" to draw me playing regardless of the stupidity of some missions, I have no desire to play the game. If they don't fix the characters in Andromeda I will certainly not play the game. It doesn't have "the thing". Just at looking at the game characters makes me sick.

Also the voices are rather for cartoons. Some of the voices doesn't suite particular character. Andromeda is the step back, not forward in gaming. One of the biggest Bethesda's failures. Fuck and I was looking for the game rejoicing like little kid who was promised a nice gift and instead of the gift I received prank.

MEA is like in real life, there are not only beautiful people in this world.

I would argue a sixth the world population is beautiful, maybe even still fewer.

a proverb, I hope you understand it *real beauty comes from inside*.

I do not know any game where all the characters were beautiful.

And for me the story is most important, I must experience a story, just jump and shoot is nothing for me.

I must myself with a character identify and with the game to coalesce.  ;)

You speaking the true. Most of the population in the world is ugly and I'm most ugliest among all. :)

Therefore, having that in mind, I want my game full of beauties. Real life is real, the game doesn't have to be after real life. (Not for me). Especially if there is a romance option. So far I wouldn't romance anyone in Andromeda. Rather will jerk in the bathroom. ;)

While I wait for my new PC to arrive next week and then I will play AGAIN through MEA all I have to add to this thread is:

Mass Effect Andromeda is freaking amazing game. Yep, wasn't thrilled by the facial animations either, but the game is still great fun. FUN! That's what Mass Effect kinda lost in the previous trilogy alltogether...

Yep, I am one of those who never played the trilogy again after finishing ME3. Which was a turd. Not only the ending was shit, the game itself wasn't as thrilling. Parts were great yes, but overallit was extremly dissapointing fizzle to finish the trilogy. Well, thanks of course in no small part to the fact the overly praised ME2 did such a poor job on actually pushing the plot forward. And where it did, it was abandoned by part 3...

So I was very wary whether or not to play Andromeda...but what a pleasant surprise. FemRyder is...well, I already like her more than my Femshep. Comparing both Shep sadly is kinda bland. The squadmates are also really fun or at least tolerable. Already more compelling than they were in Mass Effect 1, and I hope all of them get more screentime in a sequel. Instead of adding way too many new squadmates as in ME2, which was the main reason that game failed storywise...

Sidequests? Filler for some, but even the small ones always feel connected to the main premise of the game, either directly or simply adding to the mood. No comparison to the eavesdrop-nonsense in ME3 or the dreadfully boring ones in ME1

Overall story? Not as good as ME1, which had Saren and had teh benefit of being the first, and taking place in our own galaxy...but heaps better than the nonsense the trilogy mostly became with ME2 onwards...

I really hope they build upon this foundation. And if we ever return to the Milky Way - Please let it be a remake/reboot. Bioware could still fix the whole Reaper story arc and make it awesome as it should be, without contradicting Andromeda...

PS: Default FemRyder is also way cuter, sexier and overall attractive than Default-Anime-FemShepard was...

PPS: But Cora really isn't that hot...Even Ashely was hotter, though might be because she always suffered from severe atomical explosion in all of my playthroughs

PPPS: I hope the inevitable DLC gives not too much information on the Milky Way....damn I really don't want to be reminded too much of that...

PPPPS: Ha! So much hate from my side...so still on topic, though I direct it where it belongs of course...

So I had no interest in ME:A after DA:I wasn't even worth the 9,99 I payed when I brought it on sale and the gameplay footage I saw basically confirmed my suspicions.

But after the Internet, the same Internet that praised DA:I when it came out declared the new Mass Effect game to be worse than Hitler I was curious and invested the 50 bucks to see for myself.

And, while it's clearly the weakest entry in the Mass Effect series, It's not actually terrible. It's okay. Like a 5/10. Compared to the ME3 Trilogy which I'd put at 7-8/10 it's a pretty bad drop in quality, but after I was prepared for literally the worst game ever I was pleasantly surprised.

The main problem it has is that it tries to go for that "open world exploration crafting" shit, a fad that I can't wait to be over. Even the Witcher 3 suffered from this. The previous Mass Effect games were fast-paced, action-packed space operas: On one mission you'd face mercenaries in dirty slums, on the next you'd be infiltrating a rich criminals high society party to break into his vault. Then you'd fight your way out of a intergalactic prison while the inmates riot. Then you'd meet with a space pirate queen in a nightclub, etc. etc. They were packed with interesting and cool missions. in ME:A I feel like I mostly look at the map to see what I have to click on next. There are some better missions on the main Storyline, but the side quest, including loyalty quest are mostly boring and uninspired.

What it has going for it is cool and fun combat (why the hell they decided to take a shit into that soup by allowing the player to only have 3 active skills at any time is beyond me), the crew lineup is at least as good as in the original games, It has really nice moments but they are diminished by being too spread out between endless filler content. The story is a decent, although it's lacking in execution and is too close to the story of the trilogy.

Overall there is fun to be had in ME:A, if you lower your expectations. Helps to like exploring/crafting stuff.

The way I see it is how can they continue this series with the way ME3 ended? In my eyes it's similar to the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4 with Raiden and his story. The way it was ended gives me no reason to play Metal Gear Rising as well as the ending of ME3 gave me so much closure that there is no reason to play this new installment.

Now pretty much every reviewer worth listening to wiped their feet with Mass Effect Andromeda

I do not understand what he is talking about, but I guess He leave not good hair on MEA.

But by the way He makes that with almost every game, maybe even one that you like. ;)

Watch on YouTube, there is a HUGE LIST!  :P

I would be fine if they made "realistic" people with some being less attractive than others. However 90% of the population don't have lazy eyes and fucked up expressions and poor facial muscle control. The characters of MEA were hit with the ugly stick, not made to represent normal people. Bethesda fucked up badly on this.

The previous ME games, Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout, yes... even Fallout 4 faces were much better. There were some ugly people and some pretty people and a few very good looking people. There wasn't however seriously fucked up eye tracking and snarling mouth and facial animations on those games. This is the difference.

Story (LGBT related)

Witcher had almost every aspect of possible life included. It had homosexuality and even a cross dresser. The characters were well developed and felt "right" for their position in the game. MEA used a check box... just to be sure x was there. NO thought on where or what or even properly developing the character.

Missions and other aspects. I started to feel like I was playing a game for 12 years old kids. The stories were weak, the missions were repetitive. Gone is the deep character development that could be obtained like in previous ME games.  There was real rewards for exploring characters and conversing with them. Now it is just weak, boring and so far the only game in the past 10 years that I bought that I haven't completed at least once. (full price)

On that i disagree. That redhead badass is the baddest ass who ever badassed ^_^

Apart from that, yes. Like DA2, not the crime against humanity the internet would have you believe.

I'm glad i'm a blind hater only when it comes to Murder Slum Lord Adventures Post-Apocalyptic 1: My Baby! My Baby! :P

Didn't buy for some time because i read some threads where people were writing how terrible the game is. Well bought it now and it's one of the best games i ever played. It may not have have the best facial animations but i really like the rest of it.

Yea... I really like it when your companion flies up into the sky, or when you fall through the map. Those are great thing I love about the game besides the horrible facial animations :P

(glad you are enjoying yourself. Hopefully they will fix the facial animations and you will be set.)

Mass Effect Andromeda

http://www.loverslab.com/topic/48383-mass-effect-andromeda/

Yes...

Goes something like this (in summary)

Bla, bla,blabla... bla, bla, BLA,Bla blaaaa blaa.

Bla bla blllllaaaaablaa, bla, bla bla BLA fucking BLA

Basically the above. :P

However, Bioware/EA seems to be actually listening and doing some work on fixing the major issues. Not doing what was stated perhaps they also heard BLA, Bla, bla... animation, bla, bla bla bla bla story bla bla.. but at least they are doing something which is different from what they appeared to be doing before when people complained about a game the released. *cough* Fallout 4 *cough* cough**
