Darkpig Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago How do I get the thrill of spicy food on a budget? Â I've been loving the kick that hot sauce gives me but I've been paying closer attention to the prices and the spicy stuff is quite a bit more expensive than the milder stuff. Would it be cheaper to make my own? Would it be beneficial to grow my own peppers? Is there a cheap alternative? Is there a way to quickly lower my spice tolerance so I can get that thrill again?

I don't know where in the world you live, but they should grow fine as long as you live somewhere that gets hot and dry enough to make the average person uncomfortable. The trick is to feed and water the plant a decent enough amount to make it grow a large plant (about 1 foot tall or so) so that it can produce a greater yield, and then keeping the soil barely moist enough to keep the peppers from dying. The drier the soil, the hotter the peppers. If you want milder peppers, just water them a little more. Just make sure you don't ever water the plant to the point where the soil is actually wet, or else you'll kill it.
