Not trying to pick a bone with you but wrt no new ideas, I have wondered this as well.  While the answers so far are likely as any, it may be that they hope to cash in on the old audience "see the new Cannonball Run" to get the boomers and gen xers, while adding "race at breakneck speeds for 200 miles in their EV" to get the millennials and Gen Zers.    Pitching a movie that way makes it a "can't lose".    I mean look how successful the reboot of Ghostbusters wa.................umm....nvm.

 

 

Also, I hated superhero comics back in the 80s so why the hell would watch any of the MCU stuff now, so I too, long for the day when MCU ceases to be instant boxoffice hits.   Of course if they make a Micronauts movie, then I will have to see that.

Edit: for clarity, purse in the UK is what you keep your money in, not the US purse which is a handbag over there I believe

class starts next week and i'm still covid positive, rip. at least we're doing remote learning this semester; we have no reason to as we and other departments were in person again for fall and spring, and other departments are still in-person, but a majority of my department's classes are remote this semester. no idea why, but i do wonder if they're migrating to majority-online apart from things like mocap and photogrammetry. eh, it's just one semester, but one can hope. i do my best work at home, which is why i'm glad so many positions in the field are now fully-remote. it's hard to get much accomplished on the school computers as our programs gobble up RAM quickly, leading to crashes, lagging, all that fun stuff
