I live in he U.S, so what's on my mind is forbidden.

You can say what's on your mind. There is just a chance the Not-so-great Pumpkin will try to sue you like you work for ABC.

"Every morning 100s of millions of people wake up hoping to see a particular piece of news."  MSN's moderating bot has learned what that means and will not allow it, at least not from me.

I’m curious if he’ll get the McConnell treatment if he survives his McDonald’s induced cardiac episode. Might be a little bit funnier than if he just straight up died tbh.

My question was intended as a simple musing sort of thing. It was the illogical nature of the race versus class thing that was annoying me as it has for the 25 or so years that I have been playing cRPGs.

I know how the mechanics works and I'm not interested in lore.

I used to play Dungeons and Dragons Online and one of the fun builds was wizard or favored soul with all level ups into con. Just use spells without saves and since there was an item that converted the damage you took into spell points, you could shield block and cast forever.

But yeah, DnD sucks as a rule set. If I want to play a muscle wizard it should be viable.

Last I heard Daggerheart spanked Dungeons & Dragons in terms of sales. I'm sure the fact it was made by Matt Mercer definitely helped. I don't know how it is now but I have more fun playing Daggerheart than I do Dungeons & Dragons.

D&D is definitely one of my last picks in terms of Table Top Role Playing Games. There are other TTRPGs out there like Legend of the Five Rings, The Cypher System, Dungeon Crawler Classics, Fabula Ultima, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Straight to VHS and Slugblaster.

The mechanics system D&D uses (d20 roll high to hit a target number) is one of the mechanics systems I like, along with d100 roll under, such as what Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green use. Other mechanics systems are "meh" for me (Why all the reinventing of the wheel?). But I agree that the game of D&D per se is not great. I find it way too fiddly. I've seen too many new players dither over whether or not they should use one of the special abilities their character has, because there are just too many. But the thing about D&D is that it's the most ubiquitous TTRPG. If a person wants to find a group of players, it's the easiest game to find a group for. I've stopped playing TTRPGs because I hate playing online and it's hard to find people who want to play in person a non-D&D game. I'd rather not play a TTRPG at all than play D&D in person or play anything online.

And I'm not anti-D&D in general. I do like Old School Essentials because it's D&D (from 1980) without the fiddliness of 5.5 (or whatever they're calling the latest version).

At the end of the day, what matters for me is role playing. As long as the other players and the GM are on the same page (which is extraordinarily rare, unfortunately), the system, the setting, the genre and the mechanics are just window dressing (mostly; I've always hated comedy games and goofy gonzo games).
