Something odd actually.  I've been hunting all around town for a good rice cooker that's not priced to highly.  Any suggestions that doesn't involve immediately to defaulting to Amazon?  Nearly all of them have the same amount of reviews which isn't saying much.  Its petty I know but its really chapping my ass.  I want a GOOD rice cooker but not something that costs the same as a kidney donation.?

I got mine 10+yrs ago by Black and Decker at Walmart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Panasonic-6-Cup-Rice-Cooker-with-One-Touch-Automatic-Cooking-Feature-Model-Number-SR-G06FGL/196001858 The same price I paid back then.

Having watched WandaWank and The Multiverse of Menstruation, pretty sure I'm done with Marvel.

0/10 writing. Just trash.

Beginning to understand the absolute lunacy of some peoples' mindset.  Although, given who it came from, it could be because that's what they wanted me to hear.  Dunno.

Seriously, the answer to "This particular problem is getting bigger by the day!" is NOT "Oh well.  Dur, dur dur.  We'll just be like [insert entity with the end state of aforementioned problem here]."

No, sir.  The problem has been identified.  DO something about it, already!!!  Ignoring it will not make it go away, and it's only going to get worse!  Quit ignoring and start acting!

Sigh.

Why do video games hide so many variables? For example in Skyrim they never tell you how powerful silver weapons are against undead. It certainly can't hurt to say it does 20 extra weapon damage right? Is there some niche of people who like calculating that shit after hitting enemies? Me. I look through chests and look for the weapons with the best numbers then throw the rest away. Originally this was going to be a rant but I'm more curious than anything since there is another game I'm playing through right now that did the same thing and now I'm curious. Is there a logical design decision for hidden weapon variables or is this simply bad design?

You would have loved BDO's early days.

Spoiler

These are the stats that were known.

Everything else like evasion, critical damage, magical resistance, were unknown. Boss tier equipment had a bunch of hidden enhancements and extra stats.

There's 1. a whole DLC around it, 2. dialog from at least two non DG npcs, and 3. you know that whole soul cairn/coldharbour thing, nevermind several 4. Draugur treatise scattered around selected dungeons, 5. any previous TES game.

I'd say he meant exactly how much better they are. Are we talking 10%, 25%? The game only says better, not by how much.

I'd say it is based on immersion. The Requiem mod for Skyrim goes even further in this and hides even more variables in the name of immersion, replacing some numbers with words or removing them entirely. And 9 out of 10 players isn't going to go into 20 stats and just pick the weapon with the highest attack anyway, so it makes the game more approachable if you don't get hit with a wall of statistics for every weapon.

Honest question though.   I cook my rice stove top (sauce pan, water, low heat steam for 25-30 mins) and never even considered using a steamer.   So, what is the difference?   My rice does have to be "fluffed" when putting into the serving dish.

Anybody seen the pilot episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds yet?  Seems to be the most promising of "modern" Trek shows, by far.

"Trump started world war 3 and instituted race based eugenics"

Hard pass.

Steamers are superior due to 1. speed 2. fluff and 3. ease of use.

Exactly that.

I figured that would be the reason but at the same time it seems to fall flat as immersion. There are other ways to test the physical capabilities of weapons and armor that are less risky than fighting a draugr death lord. Even simple things like fruits or vegetables can tell one much about the durability and sharpness of a blade. If not game based damage numbers perhaps newtons. I've heard of a DND skill that shows the stats of a weapon or armor if your roll is high enough so I'm thinking maybe they did immersion better.

I get the desire for game developers to make games simple for beginners but the complicated stats are still there just hidden. Not to say all game developers should make games simple. I can understand some numbers being hidden like enemy behavior as that is for players to find out and in terms of video games can get rather complicated but things like weapon stats feel like a failure for game developers to communicate to their players.

I figure Snow White must have slept with at least one of the seven dwarves if not the pretty boy prince.

Or mayhap the story is an alchemical allegory with an important meaning like many of the 'fairy tales'. ?

But what's on my mind is why it takes 9 or 10 steps* to exit Elden Ring. Firkin rickidicklious.

A mini-map wouldn't go amiss either nor would the ability to zoom in and out like you would with the mouse-wheel.

* I've generally lost the will to live by 7 or 8 so I'm not sure about the final tally.

One of the reasons why I do not lose my patience with people who do not understand that modern fiction is often simply story telling for its own sake or exploration of ideas as so much of story telling throughout history was about instilling cultural values, passing along history (albeit embellished and mythologized).

Perhaps we can look at the era in which art existed for its own sake as a pure form of communication between artist and audience as a golden age of art which seem to be coming to an end?

I'll admit: by today's standards, it wasn't too difficult to surpass what we had already with Star Trek: Discovery and Picard.  What would be your ideal "modern" Trek?  Or is the entire franchise just dead to you since Enterprise?

It would be ideal if 'Modern' Star Trek just changed its name to Battlestar Galactica.

On the topic of science fiction programming, I have been wondering just how frequently failed science fiction programs or novels which were ahead of their time have been recycled into more popular franchises at a later date when the world is finally ready for the concept.

I could not help but think about this while doing a deep dive back into science fiction of the 1970s and 1980s (partly to be certain that I am not accidentally copying anything that is just barely clinging in the periphery of my memory) and I run back across Space Runaway Ideon which I was aware of but had not gotten a chance to fully experience, only to see that it likely served as the basis for other mainstay franchises such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Macross (and possibly even the reboot of Battlestar Galactica to some extent) as it is about two races of humanoids who may share a distant ancestral species or creator species warring over lost technology left behind by said precursor species though said tech is not merely simple machines but perhaps something out of legend, possessed of potential to change the destiny of all intelligent living things in the universe.

Kolchak the Night Stalker is the go-to example for a similar influence on popular culture in the USA, helping to shape much of 1990-2000s prime time science fiction-mystery programs such as the X-Files, Millennium and Grimm.
