It's morphed to the digitigrade shape, so I can't rig and test it myself because that would require either morphing it to fit the plantigrade shape and rig it that way (which would kinda defeat the purpose of making it fit the digi stance once rigged) or getting the digi skeleton and stance into OS somehow. The latter may be possible but I wouldn't count on it.  So I guess Bad Dog is the only one that may give it a shot. 13 hours ago, Bad Dog said: An approach to digitigrade boots: [...] That looks pretty good, yes.  As a side note, I checked the author of that image (RusellTuller from DA) and not only there is a ton of content in there, but there are some anatomic studies of anthro characters that are very interesting. Like these: Spoiler Wolf Upperbody Wolf Leg Wolf Hand Wolf Hand w/Glove Cervine Hand Perhaps a bit too close to "feral" than we're used to, but I'd say that could be a good source for ideas/details on design for any further work on body parts.  EDIT: also that's where you got your crow design from, right? 1
Bad Dog Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Yup, that's his. And yup, the anatomical sketches are really helpful.
Voldearag Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I'm a fan of Russell Tuller too, and I really like the thickly padded fingers of the Wolf Hand w/Glove in Blaze's post, I like paws to be very strong. I don't know if you'd like to use stuff from the Digitigrade Khajiit armor or not, but the lower link of that armor is so small that I think it looks unreasonable. Of course it has to be for that, the foot part of the leg is still as short as a human foot. I'm not sure why I'm mentioning that, maybe to see if that bugs anyone else like it does me. The longer feet and more S slanted spines and necks in Russell Tuller's drawings make me happy, cool thoughts.

Well actually, it's morphed around the feet from the raw NIF to OBJ export, so it is the plantigrade one.

Taking a closer look, you are right, it's the plantigrade position. My bad (again ).  That's what I get for being in a hurry the first time around and using the 3D Builder app from Windows 10 to check your OBJ files. It sure does load faster than Blender, though, and works fine most of the time to quickly check the content/shape of OBJ files. But sometimes it screws up placement, scale or perspective and then these mistakes happen. Pretty sure it's meant only for 3D printing and stuff anyway and its ability to open OBJ files is just a happy coincidence.  In any case, thanks for the clarification. I'll give rigging it a try as soon as I get the chance.

I already scaled up the lower part of the armor, and deleted the attached foot.

Spoiler Looks like crap when crouching or in any pose that bends the feet (and that's why I didn't take any pics of that), but it's only because I half-assed the rigging just to see the meshes ingame and OS's automatic bone weight copy didn't do a great job.  If we import the new shape to the original nifs (assuming Nightro handled them like heads/head parts and didn't delete or add vertices), the rigging should be preserved and should provide a much better base, and then it's a matter of tweaking the bone weight copy variables and/or weighting by hand using the paws as a reference so they don't clip through the paws or stuff like that. Should probably also do a proper rigging that keeps rigid pieces, well, rigid, instead of the "looks like metal but moves like gum" effect that standard rigging has on intrincate armor meshes like these.  So, I'd say paw armor/shin guards can be a thing if we follow this procedure, but would need some work on each individual mesh to ensure rigging is right. Don't think any mesh would be ready simply by pasting the paws into it unless it doesn't cover the feet at all and only reaches the ankle at most (like the vanilla Falmer Boots do, for example). Good to know it is possible, though.  On a side note, @Bad Dog, I've got two comments: Did you use some kind of weird transform or rigging with the paws? They look fine in NifSkope and ingame but when I load them into OS they are tiny. Scaling them 10x restores them to the proper scale, but if I export them like that they look huge in NifSkope and ingame. For now the only way to work with them is to scale them 10x when importing into OS and scaling them 0.1x right before exporting so they end the proper size ingame. It's not that much of an issue because they do work fine then, but having to scale them every time is kind of annoying. Any ideas? I think I've found a way to enable texture compatibility with human feet meshes while still keeping the paws. That way, if you equip any non-YA-patched boots or shoes that show feet, you get the proper textures instead of them trying to load the paw textures and looking bad. Of course that only works if you are using the planti skeleton option, since otherwise the feet get distorted anyway. Would you be interested in that? 1

As I said, I had to delete the lower organic foot mesh. The only thing I can think of, would be to shrink it. The armor and limbs are part of the same mesh, and implemented in an annoying way with multiple subgroups on the organic side. So it was a little bit of a guessing game on what to delete, since textures don't get exported with the mesh. Spoiler  Don't forget the I can tweak the morph if something doesn't seem right.
Bad Dog Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Have to say, boots are still not real high on the list of things that bug me. Largely, no doubt, because of the amount of work they'd entail.  The feet mesh have some weird scaling problem and I don't know what it is. I'm blaming it on using the new blender import scripts somewhere along the way. As you saw, they look okay in game but scale oddly in OS. I'm tuning the paw shapes now and will use the old import method, which might clean out the problem.  Sure, let me know what you have. In theory, it would be possible to use the foot section of the body texture for human-style feet--it's just a question of doing it for what, 8 races. And there's a limit to how many variants of the mod I'm willing to support.  A big issue I see with boots is the digitigrade stretching. All that stretch happens in the cannon bone (foot)--it's hard enough to get it right for the bare foot. Getting it right for armor that may have parts and pieces along that length would be much harder. And making it so it looks right both when it's compressed to plantigrade shape and when stretched to digitigrade may not be possible.Â

Well, OBJ import works on a per-NiTriShape basis, so it should be fine as long as you don't delete anything from the boot mesh itself (feet are a separate NiTriShape for sure). I just didn't know if you had deleted some extra bits that couldn't be fit or something like that. 22 minutes ago, Bad Dog said: Sure, let me know what you have. And there's a limit to how many variants of the mod I'm willing to support. I basically edited the paw UV and scaled it x0.5 vertically (so it only takes up the lower half of the canvas instead of all of it). Then the upper half of the canvas is unused, and we can paste the human feet textures in there. When you equip the paws, they use the lower half and look fine. When you equip anything that has human feet, only the upper half is used (as that's where the default UNP/SoS feet UV maps to) and it works fine as well.  Not sure if I explain myself, so this is a pic of the NifSkope UV/texture viewer : Spoiler Got textures for (female) Cheetahs, Snow Leopards, Tigers, Foxes and Kygarra so far. Female Lykaios should be relatively easy too since the original textures included human feet. Don't have males yet (and haven't edited their paw UVs either), but shouldn't be too hard to come up with them, and same goes for the missing females.  EDIT: also, since I upped the texture size to 2048 from 1024, not only do the paws not lose resolution vertically (they still have 1024 pixels in that direction), but they get double the resolution horizontaly (2048 instead of 1024). Of course the gain is not noticeable because textures would have to be rebuilt from scratch with the new UVs to take advantage of it, but at least there is no loss either.
Bad Dog Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Huh. FYI, the females use the same UV layout as the males IIRC, so that part should transfer over with no trouble.
Bl1nd_Eye Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 OK, so my game now keeps crashing ever since I installed this mod. Like, I leave Riverwood? Crash. I go into Whiterun? Crash. I use LAL to start in The Bannered Mare and leave? Game loads forever. Walk to Whiterun and finally get inside? Crash 5 minutes later. Start in The Bannered Mare and actually get to leave the inn and get into Whiterun? Crash 2 minutes later. What the hell, man? What the actual hell?
Voldearag Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Both of you, try starting over and installing only what is in the first post and ordering everything like it's ordered in the first post. Start a new game and see if it works, if it works then backup that whole install folder so that you can revert to that the next time it breaks, then try installing other mods. It's a lot easier to tell which mod is breaking the setup if you're sure your setup already works. Unless something else whines if it isn't at the end then keep Yiffy Age and its patches at the bottom of your load order. 2

Generally mods like Live Another Life and any mods that depend on it should be last, along with Bashed patches.  Otherwise, a few suggestions...  Modern Brawl Bug Fix - This mod is included in most of Enai's mods, so this by itself is not really required.  Improved Dragon Shouts - I'd recommend ONLY using Thunderchild, since you are likely getting some conflicts by using both.  More Nasty Critters - Not sure what is going on with this one, but with the most recent version, you should only have one plugin, i.e the MoreNastyCritters.esp, barring patches. Have you updated this recently?  Shark Race - For a Yiffy Age setup, you should only need two plugins - the main race .esp, and the Follower plugin. The Shark Race - SOS Sheath.esp is for the vanilla(i.e no Yiffy Age) version of the plugin, and is there just so character's like Mizuno has the proper schlong.  SOS Addons(UNP, Regular, Muscular, Average) - I'd suggest disabling these(either in their MCM submenus or their plugins) for a YA setup, since they won't have matching textures. Â
poblivion Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 My question does not relate directly to this mod but has something to do with it. You may also have noticed that one hairstyle has a problem with bad weighting in the mesh. Gold rings deform when the head moves. Can anyone please fix it?  Thanks khajiitfemalehair02.nif

It can only be fixed by mods that change the vanilla hairstyles...and unfortunately I don't see many hairstyle mods for khajiit other than the Apachii hairstyle mods...but those add more hairstyles(better ones imho) not improve on the vanilla ones.

Bad Dog Posted March 17, 2018 Author Posted March 17, 2018 It's fixable. Â Just discovered that the dark brotherhood SOS revealing armor is a mess. Gonna fix that. I'll see about the rings.

Bad Dog Posted March 18, 2018 Author Posted March 18, 2018 This was a pain in the butt. I decided to add some verts to the mesh to smooth out the rings as long as I was in there, then decided the weight paint was for shit anyway--if you've got a heavy braid attached to your scalp there's no reason why the end of the braid should be locked to your shoulder. So I re-did the weight paints on the braids too.  The real problem was that Skyrim has some special way of keeping those gold rings gold, even when you apply different hair colors, and I can't figure out what it is. It's not in the lighting shader or alpha property, because I copy those from the vanilla nif. It might be in vertex colors, but they look identical in nifskope between vanilla and the rings I made. Whatever, I couldn't figure it out--I ended up having to subdivide the actual vanilla rings.  Anyway, this will be part of the next YA update, or put the attached nif in data\meshes\actors\character\character assets\hair\khajiit\female. Hair01.nif  Edit: Actually, taking a second look at it, it seems that the vertex colors on vanilla are 1 for the hair and 0 for the rings. Maybe the engine is using the vertex color to set the strength of whatever hair color is applied in game. 2
Bad Dog Posted March 18, 2018 Author Posted March 18, 2018 Hm, just noticed you were looking at a different nif. Don't know why khajiit hairs are in two locations. More in a minnit.
