Jordan Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Man after reading this I shit myself since I usually have a tab open there to look at top files got more and more worried as I read and then was instantly relieved that I use AdBlock and NoScript when I read your post. ^^ Also, on the topic of this thread... Couldn't help myself :3
Guest carywinton Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Even addblockers and such can be easily circumvented once inside the target system. It's a walk in the park once you open the door. simple. @Kendo, I do PEN testing and other such network and IT related stuff for a lot of industries, including many of the big gaming industry players, this is how I get to know those folks on the inside, and it all happened because of what I "pointed out" one day to the giant Amazon.com many years ago.

EDIT: I'm on a different IP from the one I used when I was a member at Nexus. I COULD make a sock puppet account there very easily. I'm not a member there out of principal, not because I can't. With all the bitching I do about Nexus, what kind of person would that make me? I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror. I doubt it was them tracking banned users. They were SNOOPING in a PC of a 'random site visitor' and I CAUGHT them. If I'm not mistaken sometimes even rogue programs could be embedded into Flash animations, and plugin-container.exe is another name for the Flash engine for use with Firefox and browsers other than Chrome.
Kendo 2 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 NS1.NexusMods.Com is in fact a Nexus server. I checked it out. Whatever they were trying to do, it sourced from their server and not as an addon from browsing the page.
Nergui Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 There was a recent Skyrim sale on Steam, so Nexus probably got an influx.
ToxicKetchup Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 So I found an old installation of NMM that I cleaned out. When I saw the registry, well... not sure how I feel about this. "Console tracing"? "File tracing"?
RitualClarity Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Yep. NMM tracks the files on your computer. They are really only suppose to track those mods in the Nexus Mod Manager compare them to the nexus site and prompt or give you info that that mod needs to be updated etc. that is what NMM does. With the other stuff they have done in the past that is the reason many people here don't use NMM. Including myself. It would be a very bad day if I got prompted that I had an updated for one of my mods, I downloaded it and the "upgrade" was a virus...
Content Consumer Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Heh... they had some problems a while back with people hijacking popular mods and replacing the downloads with virii. Good catch.
RitualClarity Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Heh... they had some problems a while back with people hijacking popular mods and replacing the downloads with virii. Good catch. Well fortunately I didn't actually "catch" anything.. . I was aware of the situation thanks to members here on LL.. Yea LL. Because of these members I avoided Nexus like the plague using old copies of my mods and such for months before venturing back and even then thoroughly breaking apart the mods ( extracting etc ) and then scanning them like nothing I ever did before. NO BSA remained untouched... No ESM was safe..
ringgold99 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 wow, the "banned from nexus" thread was killed. sad. and by some guy who looks like keith richards. really sad for this site. i thought this site was above random banning crap like crap. edit: been away for a while and come back to find topics banned.....sounds like nexus. being able to B&M means a lot to some people. makes me think this site is no better than nexus now.

The Banned thread got derailed (in a negative way) and was rightly put down. No need to walk in and start casting dispersions.

Kendo 2 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 really sad for this site. i thought this site was above random banning crap like crap. It wasn't 'random'. The thread clean up done after the fact protected one of the biggest hypocrites on the site. edit: been away for a while and come back to find topics banned.....sounds like nexus. being able to B&M means a lot to some people. Two sides of the coin; There is NO WAY Dark0ne would ever allow public complaints about him, his staff or his site on Nexus. That means people vent elsewhere and that gives him the pathetic excuse that people doing the B&M are just disgruntled. He doesn't have to deal with it and can dismiss anything said, even though everything I've ever seen concerning Nexus in that thread can be verified as the truth. The other side of that coin is the forums that do allow the bitching about Nexus basically have people dumping their trash talk about Nexus in their front yards. makes me think this site is no better than nexus now. This is inevitable. As the site grows more people will start participating and those from Nexus will bring their fanboy, SJW/White Knight 'I'm right, you're wrong' bullshit with them. What's acceptable by Nexus 'standards' won't fly anywhere else and when these Nexus types do their thing to LL members there is going to be a clash.
enkephalin07 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I don't use NMM anymore, so I don't know if dloads through that are getting the same 202 Forbidden! error that I'm seeing from Mod Organizer. Any dload over 100MB is pretty certain to be terminated and irretrievable. Are hamsters running the wheels here, or are they steering them?
Rayblue Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Is there a big Steam sale this weekend? Looks like leeching got stalled down.
PsychoMachina Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I know this thread is about the functionality of the Nexus servers and all (and the other thread has been locked), but I just had to drop this in everyone's lap. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58809/? In case the Nexus mods delete it and they will. EDIT ...aaaannd it's gone.
Arcueid Brunestud Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Hi. Sorry to pop-up a question like this after being away for quite a time, but do Nexus support resumable download? FOOK2 and CoTW are great mods in my opinion but their size is a bit intimidating for me without resumable support or is it possible to acquire them other than from Nexus?

Odd to ask that here and not at, say, Nexus, but the answer to your first question is yes.
Chaos63 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Damn, everything over 500mb really should get a torrent instead of ddl. The connection keeps breaking up half way and there's no way to continue it so the whole download must be restarted from scratch. Bloody frustrating.

The connection keeps breaking up half way and there's no way to continue it so the whole download must be restarted from scratch. Bloody frustrating. Get a download manager.

Odd to ask that here and not at, say, Nexus, but the answer to your first question is yes. Thank you kind sir for the information, and as of this past 4 years I've only send 1 pm and no post whatsoever at Nexus, I am very much like it shall remain that way indefinitely. Speaking of which, most probably because I am dumb, resuming any download from Nexus seems like a tall order. Damn, everything over 500mb really should get a torrent instead of ddl. The connection keeps breaking up half way and there's no way to continue it so the whole download must be restarted from scratch. Bloody frustrating. Or they could break it into parts, or make a download mirror on DF or something, but I guess the mirroring part is why we have "what mods is this" in here. Just throwing in my 2 penny.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Each modders file page has a mirror tab that allows them to include a link to a mirror. Most don't use it solely because download count and endorsement is far more important than establishing a mirror link for those who have bad time downloading from Nexus. Or when shit hits the fan and another Steam wave swarms in.
