Making money by sitting on your ass at home and jerking on the internet is very commonplace these days. I've seen too many deadbeat youtube users selling their videos to sites like Machinima and spinning tens of thousands of dollars by just porting a video of themselves playing a fucking videogame to another site. Not even getting into ad revenue and click scams which about doubles or triples the amount of cash. It's sad, but dorkone is just another relatively small fish in the cesspool that has become the internet.

And then they wonder why the economy has gone into the shredder.

Doesn't Pewdiepie make like $3 Million a year?

Kendo, he took pictures[and showed them off] being a whimsical little dork overlooking the Grand Canyon.

I'm 200% sure that trip wasn't funded by a legit job. Especially not in the UK.

That's really all the evidence we need.

I just did some base number crunching.  With a 60% layout for operation expenses (that's me saying Nexus is EXPENSIVE to run), Dark0ne clears $442.22 per day or $13284.67 per month or $159416.00 per year.  That's PROFIT and me being hard on his books.

I don't begrudge the guy being successful or having a business.  It's just that he is doing it all at other peoples' expense.  Like a pimp, or a crook politician.

Being moral and sensible doesn't pay as much as outright conning people into paying you does.

Especially when the people in question are so eager to throw their money at you.

I'd hate to use a meme but I think "Shut up and take my money" applies here.

As long as the site is big and popular he'll keep it running with the bare minimums.

Those potato/LEGO block servers will stay till they catch fire. xD

Can't help it.

At least I'm not lashing out at people.

Wanna know why I'm pissed?
Check the rant thread.

I usually cool off easily though once I get it out of my system.

The experimental download poop works nice enough though.

So now they brought back the server and forced joke endorsement. Well back to not endorsing anything again. Wonder how much server space gets eaten up just for the site keeping track of every mod you have downloaded but haven't endorsed. Guess we will find out shortly when everyones forced joke endorsement list gets bigger and bigger. Server failure in T minus (put in your time limit guess here).

Yep, it's back even though I never had the stupid thing enabled. Come on, another butt wave of steam sales. Let them swallow their stupidity once more so they can roll back because we are right and they are wrong. Stupid mechanical malfunction...

If we had to rely on these guys as a hostage rescue team, I'd just grab the villain's gun, shoot myself in the head and be done with it.

Well, consider 7 million Nexus members and everything they download and then compare a hypothetical mod that has 100 downloads and 2 endorsements (typical for Nexus).  That's 98 checks every time they try and download something else.  That's 686,000,000 random checks on 7 million members.  Let's say Nexus doesn't have that many active downloading members.  Let's say it's half that.  That is still 343,000,000 download checks.  If we divide that over a 30 day billing cycle that's 11,433,333.33> things that Dark0ne's servers are processing, IF the check is only ran once per day.  What if it's only a quarter of that?...etc.  It doesn't matter if it's 1 million or just one, it's a waste and I'm glad he's doing it again.

So I'm browsing Nexus as a free user and the screen locks up.  I'm looking at Nexus only (no other windows are open).  So I Alt+Ctrl+Delete, go to the task menu and end the Nexus process to get out of it.  I go to my temp/local folder and when I look at the error report I see this: <EXE NAME="plugin-container.exe" FILTER="GRABMI_FILTER_PRIVACY">  In other words, the privacy filter I have set up through Microsoft is telling me that NEXUS is trying to get access to my computer.

WHY does a game site need access to my PC?

Are you sure it's Nexus or something through Nexus? Both options are bad nonetheless. I sure didn't get a hang up just now and I have an active tab open right now in Mozilla Firefox.

Ignore me if I sound too paranoid but could it be that Nexus actually has a tracker loose to filter banned accounts?

I saved it, just in case. :dodgy:

EDIT: I'm on a different IP from the one I used when I was a member at Nexus.  I COULD make a sock puppet account there very easily.  I'm not a member there out of principal, not because I can't.  With all the bitching I do about Nexus, what kind of person would that make me?  I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror.

I doubt it was them tracking banned users.  They were SNOOPING in a PC of a 'random site visitor' and I CAUGHT them.

Man, this is bad. I also remembered something when I looked at that report. I remembered having a pop up saying plugin-containers.exe has stopped working every now and then before I set the Privacy setting to not being tracked. I thought it was some of those plugins for Mozilla that had stopped working because I did download a number of beta plugins back then. If that actually is Nexus...

I'm using Mozilla too.  I'm looking at Lover's Lab right now and I'm not getting any errors.  After reading your post I looked at YouTube and a couple of free porn sites.  If something was amiss with the browser I'd know it.

This is what I think: Either Nexus has been comprised AGAIN or they are the ones doing it.

Posted

I THINK it might be from the adds they run.  I just went back and it happened again.  Going to try it with Google and run NoScript and AddBlock enabled.

Went to Nexus on Google with NoScript and AddBlock enabled.  Nothing happened.  Tried it again with Mozilla with no blocking and I get this:

 <MATCHING_FILE NAME="plugin-container.exe" SIZE="18544" CHECKSUM="0x4E009473" BIN_FILE_VERSION="31.0.0.6019" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="31.0.0.0" PRODUCT_VERSION="31.0" FILE_DESCRIPTION="NS1.NexusMods.Com" COMPANY_NAME="NexusMods.com" PRODUCT_NAME="NexusMods.com" FILE_VERSION="31.0" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="plugin-container.exe" INTERNAL_NAME="NexusMods" LEGAL_COPYRIGHT="License: MPL 2" VERFILEDATEHI="0x0" VERFILEDATELO="0x0" VERFILEOS="0x4" VERFILETYPE="0x2" MODULE_TYPE="WIN32" PE_CHECKSUM="0x5FF7" LINKER_VERSION="0x0" UPTO_BIN_FILE_VERSION="31.0.0.5310" UPTO_BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="31.0.0.0" LINK_DATE="09/05/2014 11:14:06" UPTO_LINK_DATE="09/05/2014 11:14:06" VER_LANGUAGE="Language Neutral [0x0]" />

What I have underlined is what's changed from the first time it happened.  The check and the file version along with the time stamps changed.  Otherwise it is the same error.

Conclusion:

(1.) Dark0ne's adds (that he doesn't want 'scum of the Earth' people to block) are pinging users PCs.

(2.) Nexus has been comprised by hackers...AGAIN.

(3.) Dark0ne is pinging unsuspecting users so he can sell their information.

Three things that Ghostery stopped when I refresh Nexus pages. The last two seems to be adverts links but I sure don't know about them.

The origination of that "snoop" is coming from NS1.NexusMods.com, that is one of their DNS servers. it's most likely a tracking cookie for third party advertising.

Interestingly it does not resolve as a DNS server when an nslookup is run on it, but further investigation found the ip address at 77.72.7.90 which does resolve to fallout3.nexusmods.com

Anytime you need something or someone tracked there Kendo2 my friend, just call on me, the IT Guru, I may not be able to script, or do meshes and such, but when it comes to running servers and the like, I am the go to guy. :P

How the fuck do you know that? :lol:

Well, I knew Dark0ne was responsible:

FILE_DESCRIPTION="NS1.NexusMods.Com"

COMPANY_NAME="NexusMods.com"

PRODUCT_NAME="NexusMods.com"

Kinda obvious the malicious intrusion my privacy settings had issue with came from his site.  Anyway, if he's doing that with a fucking browser cookie imagine what he's loading up people with who have accounts and actually log in.  Not only are they getting the log in cookie, but whatever else he decides to cram down their throats.  The staff is malicious to users and the site is malicious to their PCs.  Glad I'm not relying on them as the 'go-to-place' for mods people think they are.
