Hayleyrose2323 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 "Many people are (wrongly) blaming the new download system we added to the site back in the middle of June, which worked fine up until the Steam sales made everything go a bit crazy. To enable us to fully discount this update as a factor for those of you who are getting slow downloads and downloading issues we've re-enabled the old file server selection download method which we'll likely keep up and running until tomorrow morning for our own piece of mind. This will enable us to monitor the situation and conclude whether it's having any factor on the downloading issues." Main thing being "IT WORKED FINE UP UNTIL THE STEAM SALE" Umm....Nooo..It was still crap, just not as bad, but it was having issues.
Guest Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Right now I'd like to pound that potato into subatomic particles with my bare hands like a really angry silverback gorilla - "die you dumb fucking potato, DIE! DIE DIE!" File servers..SHIT servers! Holy cow, one day I'll download something from that place without it feeling like I'm wrestling a greased eel, and I'll drop down dead from the shock.
Guest Omega1084 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 o-o; hmm~ Well, I still think we're not being very nice to potatoes. My argument stands that GLaDOS ran just fine on a potato. I think the Nexus is using LEGO blocks as servers. o:

That's why I use Download Manager on Nexus. The auto mirror service put back the support for DM but now they pulled that out and returned back to how it was; only worse. Even with a DM running, the speed is just murderous. Also, I get more of those "the file you're trying to download doesn't match the file description received" warning than before. Come on, Nexus! Just what are you hiding in those servers of yours?!
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Oh this is just lovely... Downloaded a few files. Two in specific took really really long. One took 40mins and the other like 15mins only for both the files to be corrupted...

But that would imply that the Nexus is cute and just needing tiny medication. That's a terrible image now I'm sad. :C
Guest Omega1084 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 That made it all better ;w; Thank you Mr.Spore.You've saved the day again!
mybrainhurts Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Oh yea son, heres a pic of me back in the good ol days waiting for my ENIAC to calculate the square root of PI Apropos of nothing, but ... that picture was glorious. Thanks for posting it.
Duoleb The Chosen Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Is anyone else having issues getting on TES-alliance ? TES alliance, they have some good mods, but the rules, security and the people there are more brainless than doomworld 50 posts only to post on suggestions area or to discuss something
mkprovince Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Is anyone else having issues getting on TES-alliance ? As in the site hanged my computer to kingdom come? Yeah, not going there again until all my downloads have finished.
spartan40 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 um, no, no it is not.... I don't understand how they keep having issues.
Jordan Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 um, no, no it is not.... I don't understand how they keep having issues. Maybe they use the same servers (Or lack thereof) that the Nexus uses? o_O
myuhinny Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Or maybe they are buying the same potato brand or powder potato's that they are using.
Chaos63 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 buying lol dorkone spending any money at all unless he has a gun to his head that's very likely possibility, man
Guest Omega1084 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 While he sure loves wasting money, he's not too keen on spending it.
Kendo 2 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I don't go to Nexus or use their servers. The last time I did (maybe two months ago) was for a small freebie download you don't have to be a member to get. It was a whopping 56kb and it took over 40 minutes to download it. And I'm on a fast TimerWarner LAN line where I can watch live feed TV with no lag or loading screens. 40 MINUTES.

ToxicKetchup Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 What files are you guys downloading that are taking so long? The only server issue I've ever had is when it sends me to the wrong page or says the file doesn't exist.
Guest Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 What files are you guys downloading that are taking so long? The only server issue I've ever had is when it sends me to the wrong page or says the file doesn't exist. It doesn't matter what files they are, that's the point. Put it this way, if it wasn't a known issue affecting a lot of people I sincerely doubt Robin would bother to acknowledge it. So count yourself very lucky. Get a lottery ticket this w/e. Service has been okay for me the last couple of days, apart from the usual times of the day when it's always bad. I still regularly see virtually the entire server list go busy when I'm manual downloading and it seems almost random whether a file will time out on me or not. The new CDN option has been pretty good though.

The new CDN option has been pretty good though. I do have a Canadian ISP, so that could be why I don't have many issues. That's probably why the CDN option works so well, too. Better server setup. They put out statements saying the Steam sale was to blame for the same problems many of us were having well before the Steam sale. They also blamed some of the issues on their hosts changing hardware, or someone else in the cloud swiping their allocated IPs, or their virus scanner thing, or db cluster problems, or ddos attacks, or problems with Chrome browsers....and all of that happened within the last month or so. The service seems to experience a lot of problems that are frequently acknowledged, I'm honestly amazed that you seem to have threaded your way through all of that without noticing. I'm not saying you're fibbing, or that your Canadian ISP isn't super, just that you're blessed.
Kendo 2 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I can honestly say that from 2006 (Nexus was TESSource then) to about 2011 I never had any problems downloading. Every once in a while there might be have been an issue with uploading large files, but that was rare. The problems started when Dark0ne decided to start tinkering with the CP, updating servers, and otherwise opening the Pandora's Box of bullshit Nexus is now. He's made some really stupid command decisions and he continues to do so. What Nexsucks is now is 100% his doing. The only thing he can't be blamed for wholesale are the ddos attacks, but even then he and his staff treat people like shit. And if you treat people like shit then you had better be ready with Forum fortifications to repel invaders. Everything good that happens is his doing. For everything bad, it is someone elses doing, the stars are not aligned, the entrails are not auspicious, it is not his fault. And he gets away with it. I looked at the net worth of Nexus. nexusmods.com is NOT listed on visitorsworth.net. Too bad since it has a real time break down of what is really going on with the websites. Here's the link to SiteWorth. Not as good but it has some base line info. http://www.siteworthchecker.com/nexusmods.com According to SiteWorth, Nexus makes $1,034.00 per day or $31,020.00 per month or $372,240.00 per year. So, based just on my conjecture, why is a site that pulls in $370k per year listed as having a net worth of only $755k?. Probably because of how it's being managed (Dark0ne flushing a 250k down the toilet on a cloudsync epic failure, etc.). Nexus is Dark0ne's personal sandbox. I doubt he has an accountant. I doubt he has a business manager. It is probably just HIM and a checkbook. That is why he can afford expensive vacations and why Nexus service is SHIT. There is no way he is pumping Nexus revenue BACK into the business. He's going the cheapest route with crap servers, free tech from his friends, and whatever fucking sorry excuse of a staff he can muster from forum dorks on a power trip. You get what you pay for, Dark0ne. Too bad the axiom isn't true for your members. They get fucked and you get paid. That makes you a pimp. I do know this. When I was working I was a mechanical engineer at coal fired power plants, I wasn't at the top of the field or some kind of rock star but I made good money. Bought a house, cars, if there was something I wanted I bought it, etc. I pulled in about 12k less than what Nexus does in a year. So where is all of the money Dark0ne makes going? And THAT GUY has the fucking NERVE to get on Nexus and beg for funds and bleat about how poorly Nexus is doing. And he does that sitting in an apartment Nexus pays for, on a computer Nexus pays for, sipping hot coco in jammies Nexus pays for. And he's writing all of that off on his taxes. You can believe that. He's a fucking con artist, nothing more.
Guest Omega1084 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Kendo, he took pictures[and showed them off] being a whimsical little dork overlooking the Grand Canyon. I'm 200% sure that trip wasn't funded by a legit job. Especially not in the UK. That's really all the evidence we need.
