That is where the money is, because those types of players buy games based on appearances mostly. If you were in the gaming industry to make money, which group would you for? The guaranteed profit of an established product lines like Fallout or clone of Fortnight, or clone of whatever game is currently "in", or do you run the financial risk of backing a game like LA Noire? Pre-ordering is just a way to raise capital to help with building the game. It allows the game company to "hedge" their bets and to "pump" up financial reports when the game is released, since all pre-orders are counted with the first day (or first weekend) numbers of units sold. When it comes to AAA publishers I agree, their main MO is geared towards their shareholders, not oldschool fans, but when you see the work being done by Modders as a hobby, it makes you wonder why there aren't more studios popping up that are prepared to take a chance. If a team of randomers with some skill can build Morroblivion, Skyblivion or whatever, whats stopping them going one further and basically recreating a whole game? Not sure you could create a multiplayer game out of the Creation Kit mind you, but to be honest I'm not particularly computer minded.

For my part, with the notable exceptions of NoHealthRegen, Frostfall, INeed and Sexlab/Defeat, the games mechanics I do play with are vanilla's : vanilla fights, vanilla blocking, vanilla magic, vanilla sneaking, vanilla crafting. And it's only after 1500hours that I'm really feeling the need of large questmods. The remarkable fact here is that I have the distinctive memory of some of Skyrim built-in gameplay's mechanics being those that required popular mods for Morrowing and Oblivion (which is why I mentioned blocking). Yet indeed, it's incredible what modders managed to do by putting their efforts in common. And the frameworks you mention are a spectacular example of that. I'm not talking about vanilla mechanics to play. I'm talking about vanilla mechanics to mod things. And there were some terrible decisions made. And for playing the vanilla game, i don't really care about mechanics but story, and there it quite sucks, so... some are okish, but i wouldn't call any of them outstanding and all the guilds very pretty much terrible. The only one i actually really enjoyed was dawnguard, but even that might be due to amorous advantures. Back in Morrowind the guild quests were actually awesome and i was excited to play seem just to see how it continues.
megamantaray Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 The mechanics of Skyrim are so bland there's not much to complain about. Except magic being shit impossible to use without restoration loops for stupid enchantments.
GregorSamsa Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Most All games i play are old. They are so old dinosaurs did the programming. Many of them I enjoy today had a bad start. It was the community and the modders that often made games interesting for me. I became interested in TES5 in 2015 when I saw a CBBE-walking-butt-video. It were the things they did with the game that made me curious, not the game itself. There is no hurry. I can wait a year or two, watch and see. I don't even like this thread demanding a "yes" or "no". Things change. Skyrim changed so much during the years. and my opinion about it changed too. A thousand times with every CTD. As many members wrote before – there's no hurry on digital content. It's not like a fish that start to smell if you don't cook it . It is more like wine. After a while you will know it's only vinegar or a great beverage. Or like those books they write "this is the story of the century" and two years later no one rembers even the titel. Sometimes it takes 100 years until a society can decide about which book did really matter. Maybe on games our culture is a little faster. But most of our decisions will have to stand the test of time. And to my experience those who are the first to say "no" or "yes" are always the first to begin to doubt their decission. Wait and every thought in this thread will be a crumb on the rims of the digital world. Sand on the coasts of Nirn.

You bigot! How dare you criticize the guys who sold off to Epic and M$ and still have the audacity to lecture you on the evils of corporatism? It's actually quite a tradegy that the same guys who made Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines pandered to their pussy squad of a team. I'd bought a key for Skyrim LE in 2018 after Bugthesda hid it and never put it again on a sale. I had researched SSE and didn't like the concept of CC at all, and I am glad I went for LE for the price of a banana, considering how many times SKSE needs to be updated and recompiled after every crappy CC update (plus its plugins that rely on static addresses). Considering how bland vanilla Skyrim is, It took me 7 years to purchase it and I only did it because I'd found out about SexLab (most adult games suck and are made by Patreon scammers). It took me months of installing mods, resolving conflicts, configuring them in-game, etc; Out of my 60 GB installation, only 13 GB is from the original game. No way in hell I'll ever give Bugthesda any more money, much less pay full price to beta test a bland bug filled game with the writing of a porn movie. And you now have CC too, which amazes me how dumb Bugthesda is. After the backlash they got when they tried to force paid mods on Steam, how could they not see that this was a bad idea? Mods is what makes their games playable, and yet they chose to not only add a paywall to it, but also encourage it.

Wow... Touched a nerve there didn't I? So the question is still: Have you ACTUALLY played the game or not? Are you speaking from first hand experience with the game, or are you spouting some drivel that you heard on YouTube? As for comparing a game that isn't even out yet - uhhmmm nowhere did I compare the games. I stated that Crapout76 was a macrotran$action filed pile of shit and that since Bugthesda seems to be very all-in on how great it is, the potential for Starfield to be just as craptastic is very possible. If Bugthesda makes Starfield basically into Crapout77, that will make playing Outer Worlds the better choice... for ME. Never said YOU had to play it,,, Untwist your knickers and move on...

The most interesting section of this game is the lesbian romance (of which you have actually nothing to do with), the AI in the game as far as active battling goes is as basic as it gets, and the story revolves completely around the galaxy being a corporate dystopia in the most blatantly black and white manner possible. The only area where you can hit up this as a true "RPG sandbox" is two different livestreamers basically murdered almost everyone in the game cause hey sociopathy is emergent gameplay. If you like being locked in a room with someone capable of generating sarcastic retorts about rapine corporate paradigms 24/7 maybe this will hit that spot, otherwise there are way way better ways to spend 8 hours if you're remotely any good at games and 16 if you intend to exhaust every dialog tree out of boredom. 1

megamantaray Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 I keep getting confused thinking Outer Worlds is Outer Wilds, and that's kinda relevant because of the way that game was released. I was promised a Steam key from Day 1 after I backed it, super excited about it, played the Alphas forever and it finally got a release. It's on Epic though, exclusively until who knows when but it's been on PS4 and Xbox for a while now. Pretty adorable if I do say so myself. They barely even acknowledge complaints too. Most of the comments on their fig.co are wanting refunds and they purged the steam forums. Edit insert: I should mention that basically that is all the interaction they've had with their userbase, no acknowledgements just bans. If nothing else Kickstarters and crowdfunders of any kind are just less fancy preorders, with just as much of a chance of fucking you. If I could go back knowing how this'd turn out I'd undo my pledge and pirate the game anyway. Don't preorder kids, it's unhealthy. Meth on the other hand... probably fine if you have good dental.

Well, that's a punch to my desire to play the game. From the way people were talking about it i thought it'd be something more than that. I have a feeling that a big part of this game's praise is coming from the current disdain of Bethesda and 76, i mean hey "give Fallout back to Obsidian" is a fandom altogether, so maybe that fanboyism is fueling so much of the love for Outer Worlds. On that note i must admit, Obsidian launched this game at the perfect time. While everybody's busy shitting on Bethesda (rightfully so) they'd be able to put out just about anything. I'll consider playing it in a year or so when it's really cheap. That reminds me, this game is not on Steam, and i'm definitely not installing a Tencent client on my computer just to play one game. Eh, back to Horizon 4 then.

Oof, you have my condolences. I have limited experience in this kinda thing but training newbies while working IT I feel is at least somewhat comparable. Anyway back on topic; What could the Elder Scrolls 6 possibly do better than 5? Every game since Morrowind has been taking away features as opposed to adding new in. At some point the game will just be COPPA compliant and be a bunch of boxes, like, it's already got the monotone uninteresting dialogue it's always had.

Redo the Nightingales; without Thieves Guild, there is no Nightingales. Without Nightingales, there is no Thieves Guild. Listen to the whole storyline. Thieves Guild and Nightingales work together in harmony. They should have made Nightingales more expansive in Quests. It was good down to the point; but did not hit all the towns, like Thieves Guild did. I loved Thieves Guild quests, regardless of all the repeatable grinding.

Their depictions in lore is NOT their depiction in the game, in fact they look like bumbling idiots in the game because of how stupid Karliah and her boyfriend were. Then again EVERY faction has an obvious traitor in their midst and they just let it happen. Maybe they deserve to die. They literally serve as a shallow reward for pushing through the questline, I gotta imagine they just didn't have a proper ending for the Thieves, or it wasn't satisfying enough to just kill Mercer so they stapled a less ugly set of armour and two weapons into it, as opposed to just having the elf eyes and upgraded thieves armour like Oblivion. Hell Skyrim didn't even have the crime cowl because that was a good idea and we can't have those, like spell crafting. No no no~

No no no~ The Thieves Guild in Skyrim was a shell on what they were. 200 years have passed between Oblivion and Skyrim. Crime Cowl in Oblivion was extremely rare, since preservation is not in Skyrim realm except for one guild would be destroyed. Bethesda's biggest mistake with Skyrim was; they put at least one traitor in each faction and it was usually the leaders that the player replaced which became highly predictable. Modders make endless grinding a thing of the past which became "BORING". My favorite quests was Thieves Guild restoring the Guild to it's former glory. I loved the trophies from the Thieves Guild. My favorite place to live was Thieves Guild. When it comes to Factions in games, I love a regular faction with elite factions. Thieves Guild/Nightingales, Empire/Penitus Oculatus/Blades, Companions/The Circle. You have Guild Faction Enemies which is why I loved Thieves Guild better in Skyrim, Summerset Shadows and the whole Empire vs Stormcloaks. Bethesda laziness was they never made an Elite Faction for Stormcloaks. The only things I truly hated was the random quests when you needed specific quests to get Guild Rewards and the endless grinding to get trophies and rewards, but Modders fixed that all. I loved the Storyline and how Mercer got hold of the Skeleton Key and cleared out Thieves Guild vault, which made new elite faction within Thieves Guild, Nightingales.

One could say that Ulfric and Galmar themselves are the elites. They're on a really tight situation during the time Skyrim takes place, i wouldn't really expect them to have an elite team set up somewhere. Stormcloaks as a faction are still very new compared to any other faction you can think of, it'll take take more time for them to establish proper ranks and elites within their operations. Just wanted to throw that out there.

By Crime Cowl I meant the Gray Fox helmet thing that modders added back in because Bethesda's got a thing for removing features. Enjoying grinding is a personal choice, it is not good game design, especially for what is essentially worthless decorations. Your opinion doesn't remove that it's objectively badly written and designed. Nightingales are not an Elite Version of the Thieves, they're basically a separate addon to them. Empire( you mean the empire as a whole?)/Penitus(the body guards?)/Blades(defunct dragon hunters?) are barely related and serve different purposes. The Stormcloaks are just rebels, the only people who have power are Ulfric and his pet bear. That's how revolution works. Mercer used a MacGuffin to drive the plot forward. The Nightingales are basically what Anakin and Obi Wan were in the Prequels. "Hey remember these things we did you didn't see? We have so much history we're gonna tell you all about. Yeah we were written well, here have a new outfit."
