so a few months ago bethesda leaked a few starfield pics... nothing special, u could sense the fallout if u know what to look for. it also is known that they are going to keep using their engine for elder scrolls 6/starfield. so yeah, they are going to unload giant fallout/skyrim reskins on us, it would not be bethesda if they did it any other way.

however i always wondered why there is so little improvement in their games while they at the same time show great potential... why they dont want to develop beyond sandbox/generic quality... the mod content proves that their engine could actually handle a more story driven game with unique characters/interactions between npcs/animations/facial emotions, etc...

I believe it is Dollars and them trying to re-live the old Bethesda when they were golden child of game production. Year after year of great releases.  I believe they are stuck and just can't figure out how to go forward and keep all the stuff they had .. much that made them famous.. (like being one of the most mod-able games).

Bethesda lost their way a few years ago. They sold their soul to investment bankers.

They used to be like CDPR still is - Make a huge, fantastic game, sell it, then start working on the next one.

A banker will not be happy with income every few years. They want a monthly ROI.

That leads to abortions like Fallout 76 and ESO. Subscription based.

Do I have hopes that Starfield or ES 6 will be any better? No I do not. Bethesda put themselves in the same camp as EA.

I still have hopes for Obsidian - if they make games that can be modded.

I doubt it will be better than Witcher 3, but it would be cool if Todd removed the plugin structure and the SDK.

With Witcher 3, I just unpacked the mods in a folder and that was it. But with Skyrim, I spend a entire week for a installation, just to be running in circles around boring Whiterun.

Two weeks ago I had a argument with one of Nexus snowflakes about it. In my view, the SDK should be dumped, and instead of plugins, TES VI could use something more simple, like in Witcher 3. Also, this would teach a lesson to Bethesda, because if they do a shit game this time, they will eat dust, and there will be no mod author to fix their stuff.

Yeah old and outdated needs to be replaced, like my first car, That little 6 cylinder Chevy was probably great in 65 but by 74 when I bought it it had seen better days. And that's basically what they are doing; putting their 1987 Yugo GV up against the 2020 Dodge Challenger of game engines.

So ... you're suggesting that Bethesda are using the same engine for TES6 as they used to make Wayne Gretzky Hockey, back in 1988?

A bold claim, if so :)

Well i would only preorder TES6 if Todd boi agrees to join my online chess club before Starfield releases. If he doesn't then nope, no preorder from me and that's how it just works.

If it comes with some cool plastic crap I want to clutter a shelf with: probably*. If that plastic crap is $800: nope.

I've made it a point not to buy ANY game (or software) until it's been out for a year. There are almost always bugs, poor optimization, driver issues, etc. that need to be patched the first month, and more fixes 6 months out. When I was younger, it gave people time to write guides for both missables AND glitch fixes or workarounds. Not to mention time to test out if the damned thing bricks your console or corrupts saves after a certain point.

...it will also dramatically drop in price after a year, and copies will be easier to find on shelves.

(I'm still not comfortable with digital only media, and always buy disc versions if possible.)

If it was especially well received, it may even be available as a GOTY Edition, with all DLC included at that reduced price!

My birthday being at the end of the year and my parents being somewhat poor also made waiting 6+ months for new games an expectation very, VERY early lol

*EDIT: I'm working on breaking that habit, too, since I hate packing shit when I move. I've been slowly going minimalist and hoarding digital baubles instead lol. HDDs are sooo much more efficient! XD

If TES6 has a voiced protagonist, it's over. And at this point, given their track record of stupidity, I wouldn't be surprised.

The only time I pre-order anything anymore (for oh, maybe 20 years now or so) is on the rare occasion something severely appeals to me, has a hard-copy and/or collectors' edition, and I'm reasonably confident it won't be garbage.

Needless to say, it really doesn't happen very often.

Question: why is anyone talking about TES VI when we don't even have an ETA on Starfield? The game Bugthesda insists is in the works and will come out first?

I think more people are anticipated with (or the results) of TES6 since this community is largely about TES and FO since all the way back from wolflore.

I preordered No Man's Sky when it was the big thing. Never again.

I don't condone piracy but I do condone researching a product before you purchase it, and it is impossible to do that before the game is released.

People have their reasons why they do the former. I don't blame them. And one should always look at reviews before buying. Without it this would be the equivalence of mainstream media and no alternative media. Remember the whole Bethesda BS and review copies a day before official release titles? Yep. If they had their way, they would do no different than FB and Twit.

I can not say I have never preordered a game, but no I am not going to pre-order ES6. The only games I pre-order now are games that are guaranteed to come out and have a release date. I view it less as preordering, and more as reserving a copy.

But a game like ES6, which has no information on it, no release date, nothing except that the project exists? No, I am not preordering it.

I never pre-order, but seriously with all the mods for Skyrim, I'm probably good with that for a good while into launch. Looks sick with all the hi-res overhauls of everything.

With the added bonus of not experiencing a new game's buggy life at launch, yes I'm ok with that

The disaster that is Arkane's Redfall has thrown serious shade on Bugthesda, both with customers and within Microsoft's XBOX. The way Phil Spencer is talking these days, you'd think Bill Gates himself wants his head on a silver platter. No chance will anyone with any sense preorder anything from the company. But sense has always been rare among humans.

Pre-ordering anything from any software company has proven to be increasingly inadvisable with each day that has passed since the original post of this thread.

I have been a fan of Bethesda since the 90's, Elder scrolls was the first game I showed my wife and Daggerfall was the game that Turned my wife into a gamer, I bought every collectors edition, built new computers for each of us around every game release.

Bethesda used to be the golden child of gaming we gave it so many get out of jail free cards.

After these last few years, the lazy Fallout 4 VR port and then 0 support, Creation club, bethesda launcher, Fallout 76 (the last game my wife pre-ordered for me before her death).

I have added Bethesda to the Activision and EA list, (haven't bought an EA game since the Mass effect Andromeda debacle).

In a way Bethesda is even worse, they release games so buggy that depend on modders to fix lazy coding and then they try to turn modders into a cash cow.

Hell lets say it every game since Morrowind has been more dumbed down than the last.

I will stick to Skyrim.

It is kind of sad, 3-4 years ago Bethesda would have been in my "companies that care" category.

Yeah the games have been dumb down it feels more like a theme park these days. and sadly starfield in the show case or trailer there had bugs not even hiding it anymore you know. Also sorry about your wife rip hope you was able to move on you know good luck.
