Girl In A Jar

I thought I'd try my hand at a GIAJ main menu replacer.

Not rocket science. I just took Main Menu Background Replacer from Nexus, then created a Textures\interface\objects folder in a parallel MO2 mod and substituted my own menuwallpaper.dds file.     I think I might keep it for a while   General mod news: I two quest playable, and starting on the third. Still tweaking and bug fixing here and there. I want to get a bit further forward before I consider any sort of release though. Still, at the risk of jinxing myself,

Girls Not In Jars

I'm not happy with the direction the whole Girl In A Jar was going.   I mean, I took seven girls who, let's face it, probably had never done anything worse than be a bit snippy with the servants, and I subjected them to four thousand years of torment and sensory deprivation, just so t he player would be able to justify them as mantelpiece ornaments and occasional fuck-toys.   So I'm not going to do it. I'm going to put this project on hold while I rethink the backstory. I wil

Furniture vs AnimObjects

AnimObjects are great. You set an idle on an actor, and the furniture and/or armor auto-equips and if the actor isn't exactly where they should be, the AnimObjects are still right. Plus you can target the actor with something like Jaxonz Positioner and move them around.   The disadvantage however is that, if you're shrinking the actor like I am, the actor's collision remains full size, so you can't put them on shelves or too close to one another, or anywhere the actor couldn't normally

Plans

I've got some free time coming up, and I'm in Skyrim mode, so I'm going to see if I can get going again on Girl In A Jar. I have a couple of weeks starting this weekend, and then some more over Christmas, so RL allowing, that should be enough time to get  the ball rolling again. (It's either that or play with AE and I'm not that desperate to go fishing in Skyrm ?)   Anyway, first order of business is to work out where I left all the bit and pieces. After that, I'll finish up on the Hel

First proper look at one of the girls in their quest location

OK, it's nothing you haven't seen before but you wouldn't believe how much grief I went through to get this:   2021-03-15 12-46-16.mp4   For a model that worked every time in the test cell, this broke in every way imaginable in Tamriel. Koriina here refused to get in her jar and wandered around the table top, or she'd get in but then end up standing on the cork. Or half way through the cork. Or the activator perk wouldn't work and the activator volume I tried in its plac

So ... Girls In Jars, huh?

Having got the cross working more or less as I want, it's time to get back to the original idea.           The previous girl in a jar shot was something of a cheat. I scaled down a clone of Olfina Grey-Mane, scaled down a cross, and linked the two. Then I copied the "jar" part from a bug jar, pasted it into a nif with no collision, and positioned that over the pair of them.   That worked well enough for screenshot purposes, but there was a lot you co

Magic Furniture

For Girl In A Jar, I wanted to do something a bit different with the restraints. I mean it's a magical jar, so why does the cross need to be made out of wood? For that matter, why do we need a cross at all?   I'm thinking something like this:     I wanted translucency for some of the elements, but I can never seem to make that work. I'm also hoping to get some particle effects on the bonds, and if I can suss it, to make the words rotate.   I just wish I k

Hellne

A long time ago...     ... back when the Snow Elves still walked in sunlight, and when  the Dwemer still mined in the deeps below...               A noble lord offended a powerful wizard.       In retaliation, the wizard abducted the lord's daughter...     ... and returned her to him, shrunk down and imprisoned in a magical jar.   This is that daughter. Her name is Hellne.

State Of Play

I want to set down some thoughts on the Girl In A Jar project. Where I am, where I want to go, what needs doing and what might be nice to have. There's a very high ramble-to-boob ratio in this one, so consider yourself warned   The The spell to put the girls in a jar is working, more or less. The "in a jar" part works flawlessly, it's just that a minute or two later, something pops them out of their idle and they revert to the ZAZ cuffs kneeling idle. This started happening after I r

Attaching Art Objects to Armor

Busily debugging the first quest, and one of the problems I've been having is that the static word rings I've been using appear foolishly low on the taller girls. Also, if the girl doesn't align quite right with the furniture, the ring clips the arm or misses it entirely.   All of this inspired me to take another look at using animated add-ons for armor.     I finally got it working! The rings rotate, they have attached lights (rather too bright at the moment, but

Rotating Text!

Well, I worked out how to make a rotating static.   2021-02-23 00-30-13.mp4   Now I just need to get the text to glow again, and paste it into the cross nif. And get it to lie flat on the ground. That would be good too.   Still, all in all I feel absurdly pleased with myself.   I might write up how I did it later. Right now, it's half-past-bedtime and I need to catch some zs

More rotating text

Here's the activation sequence. That's a bit grand for what it is, but you get to see the words light up when she gets on teh cross. (also she gets stuck on the collision for a second or two, but that happens with normal crosses as well.   2021-02-24 18-18-32.mp4   Here's the big ground text, plus the ankle words   2021-02-24 18-19-14.mp4   Here's the hands. I'm starting to feel quite fond of the Orc Princess in this shot. Not that it's going to

Girl In A Jar, Part One

In the closing years of the Third Era, the Arcane University of the Imperial City sponsored a great many expeditions to uncover the secrets of this or that ancient ruin or newly unearthed tomb. A number of these yielded important finds, and have been subsequently well documented. What is less well known however is that the majority of these missions were far, far less glamorous. Indeed, there was a period when it seemed hardly a week would pass without some shopkeeper seeking to extend his cella

I got the rotating text working - again!

You would not believe how much trouble this little sucker caused me.   2021-03-08 06-31-26.mp4   I got the rotating words working before, but the mesh was just a 2D plane. It tended to vanish completely unless you were looking down on it, and even then it was a bit lackluster.   So I made a 3D version. Made the text in Inkscape, imported the SVG into Blender, extruded the mesh to get teh 3D. Then it was just a case of export it as OBJ, import that into Outfit S

Girl In A Jar, Part Two

My fingers brushed against the jar, and the world grew dim around me. I felt some arcane force pulling at me, dragging at me, mind, body and soul. Darkness swirled around me and for a moment I felt myself teeter on the brink of some fearful transition. Then, I am pleased to recount, my mage's training kicked in and I steeled my will to resist the pull. In a moment the darkness was gone as if it had never been, leaving me gasping for breath, my heart hammering inside my chest.   Weak-le

When Spells Go Wrong

This was the scene in my secret lab earlier today:     Let me introduce you to the girls, since we're here. This is Korinna. Her father had the dubious distinction of being the first Ayleid noble to lose his head to Pelinal Whitestrake.     Urzul here was the daughter of the Warlord who founded the shortest lived Orsinium of all time.     Cymbanwe's father was the last king of the Falmer. Unless the blind wrinkly ones have kings as w

Capture And Release

Been working on spells to put girls in jars. Thought I'd test it out in Cronvangr Cave.     This is going to make managing soul gem farms a lot easier   Oh, the release spell works too     Still need to sort out some timing issues, like why the cuffs don't always deploy. And see if I can find an event that triggers when I move jars with Jaxonz Positioner, so I ca n bring the base words along too. For the cuff words, I think I'm going to try i

Animating Emissive Color

I want to be able to animate  some of the ENB lights I've been using. Doing the color on a normal mesh is fairly easy. The Fuzzy Physics Institute tutorial is my basic guide for that sort of thing, and the information there was what let me get the animated cuff words working. Nut it doesn't work for ENB lights. Mainly, it turns out, because the lights use a BSEffectShaderProperty rather than a BSLightShaderProperty, and that has its own set of controllers.   Once I figured that out, it

The Story Of Korneum And The Seven Beautiful Daughters

There came a time when the great mage Korneum, sometimes known as "The Objectionable", found himself growing restless. All the great magical mysteries were solved, it seemed; all his rivals dead or disgraced; all his slaves trained to exquisite perfection. In short, he was bored.   Seeking respite from this ennui, Korneum announced that he would hold a reception at which he would hear petitions, in the hope of finding that sort of sort of problem that only a great mage might solve. Man
