What on earth is taking so long? 2 weeks now LL is either unresponsive or extremely slow to load. What are you doing mods? Rewriting the site from the ground up? FFS! It better be fcking worth it.

@ritalmao: thank you for your application. You are expected for work at LL HQ at 8AM sharp. As agreed, the work day lasts 16 hours, there are no weekends or vacations, and you won't get paid or receive any benefits. Regular whipping is applied. We're looking forward to working with you.

@ritalmaoritalmao oh, sorry, Doc forgot to add.

Thanks for the active support (helping others, posting mods, being collaborative, or giving money) you are actively doing!

Thanks.

Hi, ignoring the website slowness, does anybody have this problem where the bars go blocky?

Heres what mine looks like:

I was getting this too, it's fixed in the current Firefox beta (version 67)

i myself would actually take that job except for 4 problems:

1. i know nothing about web design or programing, so i would most likely fuck things up more than they already are.

2. i'm nowhere near LL HQ.

3. i want dickings instead of whippings.

4. (Classified)

Any idea if the DDoS attacks are related to the exposure from that article in February-ish? Timing seems to line up.

Article?  What are you about?

I assume that my access to the site is just as slow and just as problematic as anyone else's is. I have also complained about, and made jokes about, the current status on other threads here on LL. However, I think it pays to look at the big picture.

Foremost, any time you and I spend on this thread complaining about the site is not just unhelpful it is counterproductive. When Ashal and/or the moderators are here spending time reading complaints and answering what amounts to the same questions/complaints over and over then they are not available for doing the actual work required to fix the site. So, if you have a problem like all the others posted here just take a few deep breaths. LoversLab is important to all of us, or we wouldn't be here. We all want to see it as responsive as it was two months ago. That being said, don't be part of the problem. Keep your complaints off the threads and try to stay upbeat. LL will be back to its old self (and, hopefully, better) in no time.

Next, this is Ashal's website. Some of us donate to support LL but no one is paying for it. As I have said elsewhere about similar issues, complaining about issues on LL is like complaining that the guy who gave you a Toyota is a cheapskate because he didn't give you a Lexus. Try to keep some perspective. I know we all want it up but Ashal, et al have no duty to us. They do what they do because they love what this site is about as much as we do. Give them credit and give them space to do their work.

While I would also like to know precisely when this is going to be "fixed" I am reminded of something I saw on a mod's thread (maybe one of the DD mods) by Laura 'Lokomootje'. Someone was haranguing the mod's author about when an update would be available. She calmly and precisely pointed out that the author will have it ready when it's ready. Bitching and moaning isn't going to help. Things take time and allowing the people who are doing the work to do it without adding unnecessary pressure is the most that we can do and should be the least that Ashal can expect from us.

I'm going to stop here, not because there isn't more that can be said or more explication given of my points but because "walls of text," no matter how well written, tend to get ignored on websites. Please, have patience and stay positive. Once things are back up to speed we will likely all forget we went through this by the time a month has passed.

In a nutshell can you explain what happened to the site?

Do you mean this answer?

Mostly problems on the site software.

From time to time also some DDoS attacks.

Very foggy.

I know it makes me sound like a smart ass but yes, that answer. And, did you want your answer in a nutshell (which I thought CPU provided nicely) or were you looking for something longer (I did say I was trying to avoid "walls of text.")

I hope I can simplify this a bit. LL has undergone a server transfer (I think), both for additional storage space and better traffic handling. Server transfers are long, complicated matters even if all you're doing is transferring data that already exists. There's no real way to know how the old software will work with the new hardware, either. The Gateway Errors everyone is getting, the slow loading, those are all things that can happen when software and hardware conflicts. It takes time to fully fix the issues because they could be caused by any number of things. Sometimes it's just a software adjustment, other times there are hardware issues that can't be quickly resolved.

If they're also implementing new software, that can cause issues as well. No program works perfectly without some tweaking. Website programs are especially prone to "new software syndrome" where unexpected issues arise.

As for DDoS attacks, yes. Those have happened. Ashal and the mods have done what they can to combat those, like implementing reCAPTCHA into the sign in process.

All we users can do is be patient. Things will get better. It just takes time to get everything running smoothly.

Gateway errors were mostly done to memory exaustion and no more db connections available.

The new hardware and tweaks Ashal did reduce this a lot.

Problem solved? Not yet.

But we are working on it.

It is better for me at least. I can come to the site .. in the evening and actually post and do some stuff when I need to. Big difference from a week ago.

Yes, and thank you for being so transparent and informing the community of why there are problems with LL.

how long are you member here?
a few months!
I already since October 2011 member, actually still much longer, already since appeared Oblivion.
Since then I have already experienced a lot here, from LL old to LL New, there were serious problems, so back again to LL old.
a year later the same play LL New and this time it was stable.
now something new again and it is normal that everything does not work right away!

it means, give people a bit time, They will fix it! :classic_wink:

I would suggest not allowing uploadings of .bmp image files, if that is possible.

- They are uncompressed so they take up space and bandwidth from the site.

- The site doesn't show them embedded so we have to download them on disk before seeing them.

- It's in everybody's best interests if people learn to save as jpg or png. The PNG format is closest match to BMP if one needs to preserve pixel-perfectness.

It's one option that site would auto-convert the files into png, but knowing that there's already lag here, dealing with these is just extra stress to the site and our patience ?
