MrEsturk Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Skyrim looks quite different with all the overhaul mods I put into it: Reporting their successful liberation of Falkreath to Ulfric Stormcloak: If only the aspiring High King realized the evil he has allowed into his ranks: For some reason during the battle of Falkreath these two soldiers decided that carriage zebra really needed to die:

ongwk733 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Found out Steam has a 'save an uncompressed copy' option for screenshots that saves a .png copy. PNG Copy https://i.imgur.com/e1lj4wH.png JPEG Copy https://i.imgur.com/rxwCSe9.jpg Aaaaand I can't really see a huge difference... >< What tools do you guys use to take really nice uncompressed screenshots? Also what site are you guys uploading your pics to that don't compress your shots too badly?

I haven't noticed any serious compression although I don't know if it depends on the ENB you're using. You can also upload as many screenshots as you want.

Skyrim default's screenshot format is .bmp, which is uncompressed. You can't get less compressed images than that.

yatol Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Millennial tween draugrs..... what have you done you vile fiend!? hairs don't rot if your draugr hairs suck, it's because of that oblivion/fallout meshes merged and unwrap to bake the textures to a 1k texture? nobody can make that look good, better give up and switch to sims hairs that aren't much better for performance but they stole it from that so it look better
guk Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 You surely jackanapes and jest, might wanna look at the names on the likes, the waifu screenarchers clique have had this since day one, sharing doesn't occur there, lol. The key to upvotes and red heart icons is share nothing and claim everything. you forgot the ones that were creating accounts to put those precious +1 on their posts themselves? it's serious stuff the endorse war! Well i didn't look into the Nexus image share for years now. Premium users there can upload an unlimited amount of images, which led to some of them filling entire pages every day. In some cases about 20 pics in a row of exactly the same sunset, then another 20 of a minimally different scene and so on. Who got votes for what to end up in the "top images" was a complete mystery to me; perhaps there were some great pictures but also often complete crap. But what about this thread here on LL? Read on in the spoiler... or don't. Alright, there are no rules defined for the thread except "show your characters". Yet the votes should indicate some kind of quality level of not only the showcased characters, but also the images themselves. Right? Now i would like to do this without calling names, but that wouldn't prove my point. So here we go. The pictures with the most rep here recently are by Idle. I've been looking through a few posts, and my impressions are these: - lighting / colors are bad - camerawork is terribad (feet consistently cut off in wide shots, poor angles / FoV, no use of DoF etc) - image composition is bad (rule of thirds, diagonals, golden sections etc) - cropping of images is near-nonexistant - use of poses and facial expressions is exceptionally bad - character design may be up to taste, but it's just an average nobody-face made with Mature Skin v1's perma-makeup galore Then compare the pictures by Shermie, who tends to get about half the votes like Idle: - lighting / colors are great (well not always, but....) - camerawork is great - image composition is great - cropping is great (and consistently done) - use of poses and facial expressions is great - even if often weird looking and in questionable situations, very unique characters with custom textures and assets So how do we explain this? Are all the votes for Idle with fake accounts? Or is it just psychology to pump a few fake votes to make it look popular, and the rest of the herd follows? Honestly i don't know, but it is puzzling. I don't blame any user for uploading their pictures, though i just have to cringe when crappy and boring pictures are leading the charts while the actual creative character art seems wasted to post here. Then there are "some people" who exclusively showcase rips from other games, instead of their own characters. Marie Rose rip? Seriously, get the fuck outta here. And while i am absolutely not against the use of followers or downloaded presets as base for your own characters - everyone has to start somewhere in order to learn how to craft their own characters - some also seem to use a downloaded preset with just different hairstyle etc, but whatever... in that sense: "sha-na-na-na! I can't hear ya!"
Derpakiin Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 guk, what enb are you using in that image? I like how soft the lights are.
Jexsam Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I could go on a spiel on the topic of image quality myself, but I think that whole line of thinking misses the ultimate point of this thread. This thread is, ostensibly at least, about one thing - showing your Skyrim characters off. Now tell me, in order to accomplish this, is it actually necessary for an image to adhere to the guidelines of good photography? The mistake being made is assuming that this thread has to be about art, that pictures posted here have to be artful, and that likes handed out are intended (albeit not always applied) as a measure of quality. Each of these presumptions is patently false and can be downright alienating to any newcomers who honest to goodness don't know what they're doing or aren't interested in trying to make art to start with. Some folks just want to show off their characters, and that's okay. As for likes, all you can really do is give them out based on your judgement. You can't stop the cliques. You can't do anything about shots you think are bad except deprive them your little green arrow. But you can make someone feel a little better by giving that little green arrow to a shot you think isn't getting the recognition it deserves.

Skyrim default's screenshot format is .bmp, which is uncompressed. You can't get less compressed images than that. Actually, you want to disable the original screenshot function in the config files because it conflicts with ENB / ReShade / SweetFX etc. Skyrim.ini -> bAllowScreenshot = 0 pure ENB preset: only use the ENB screenshot key ENB with SMAA, SweetFX etc: disable ENB screenshot key as well, only use the SMAA/SFX key instead (usually PrntScr) Otherwise you may get up to 3 screenshots when pressing PrntScr, and sometimes the Skyrim screenshot also prevents ENB etc from triggering the correct one. Though you only want the one done by the last program to process the image; for example the ENB screenshot would lack all of the effects added by SMAA. Alternative is to use 3rd party software like FRAPS, but that costs money and is pretty much 100% unnecessary. ---------- guk, what enb are you using in that image? I like how soft the lights are. Nathalie + Moon: Kwanon ENB Birgit plugging her ears in Breezehome: The Grim and Somber ENBS - Hircine I'm currently using a much older version of Hircine though, probably the author deleted that one 1-2 years ago.

Any idea if Nvidia's ShadowPlay is able to capture a Skyrim screenshot ENB/Sweetfx and all? I have an Nvidia card so there's that option for me, but I'm not sure if it'll capture everything. It saves in .png though, that much I know already. Also to not stray too far from the thread topic: https://imgur.com/miKncQl https://imgur.com/BudELq3 1

Was it painful? A lot of communities have a place where red pillers afflicted with e-peen gigantism like to go and expose themselves and rut like stags - an 'eyegasm' thread if you will. Any sloppy joes who find themselves in those places are soon roundly defeated and run out of town. Perhaps we should have such a place here? Anyway, here's a couple of shots of a brand new girl I made, with her tits out for no plausible reason, minimal use of expressions, in fairly poor lighting, at a blatantly game play orientated resolution, with no evidence whatsoever of planning a setup in advance:
ongwk733 Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Tried out some different lighting setups for screenshotting scenes, here are the results. (Click on the pictures to see them on Imgur, if they look dead) Facelight + Magelight Quicklight + Magelight Torch on the ground + Magelight (What I've been using for everything I've posted so far) What do you guys think? Personally I'm still partial to the good old torch and magelight. Facelight and Quicklight aren't bright enough to light up a scene by themselves and also aren't bright enough to balance out the blue hue given off from Magelight, but the torch trick does. Or alternatively, what tricks or methods do you guys use when taking character shots? I'm keen to know, since a lot of you guys have some really nicely lit faces in your shots.
