I see this word here in text and hear it spoken in Public so often I could just scream.

I think you are just as Ignorant for posting something obviously written by Gen Z & Gen Alpha's, when I learned to speak the language of My Country, not yours or your country I would have received an F on my report card for using Slang like this, which was written by someone who obviously does not know Proper English!

 The most common use of anyways is in colloquial speech or writing or informal dialogue. Anyway can be used in the same manner; anyways is considered more nonstandard.Anyways is often used to signal a transition to a new topic or to resume discussion of a topic after some tangent or interruption: “Anyways, as I was saying, we leave tomorrow at 10am sharp.”

Ima Keep It Real With U Chief

Words were made up by humans to give their silly grunting sounds meaning. So technically you are right in saying “anyways” is not a real word as words are not real.

 

If we’re talking about officially the Oxford Dictionary already has the word “anyways” in there:

For those who don’t know. The Oxford dictionary is the most recognized dictionary of the English language at least according to the University of Harvard and I for one am not going to bother arguing with Harvard.

 

I suppose you could argue that the word “anyways” shouldn’t be meaningful enough to warrant use. The English language has always been a Frankenstein language.

 

To that end nobody is going to remember Zoomer, Boomer, Puppy-dog Groomer, Alpha or whatever humans say these days. Dates are more uniform and are thus easier to remember.

My whole point which could have been expressed in a better way is...it is not a word used in proper speech.

I have spoken with and listened to many, many Intelligent individuals from Professors to Technical Experts in some of the fields of work I was in and None of them would even think of uttering that word.

It shows a complete lack of refinement, a lack of intelligence, a lack of Grace to spill from the tongue.

How many words are in that Dictionary that should not be spoken in "Polite" conversation?

If we do not teach them they will not learn.

Apologies to any who think ill of me over my previous post, I'm a little tired of being name called by others who clearly could have asked me to expand my meaning of said topic but instead choose to run down and belittle others. They are then fair game.

I do not need to correct others or be corrected by them, my opinion is exactly that...My Opinion. I do not expect any to agree/disagree with My Opinion when this Thread is called "What's on your Mind" post's are just that, what any one user is thinking about.

I personally blame the "Dumbing down of Society" on the gadget everyone is so obsessed with that they cannot look their fellow humans in the eye anymore, cannot interact anymore, cannot walk, talk, emote, express, engage, or deliver the performance that the World is expecting them to be able to perform in the work environment.

Grammar and the use of is just one of the functions included to move up in the world while in my mind the use of what I consider Slang will not allow such progression except with the uneducated.

 

Disclaimer; This is my opinion, mine alone, while others have their own, this one is mine.       

 

EDIT; I have to add that I said nothing of the use of the phrase "Americans and their stupid ignorance." which I could have been a complete ass over as stupidity and ignorance is basically the same thing, using these words paired in a sentence shows little understanding of the proper use of the English language.

Gen Z are increasingly becoming NEETs by choice—not in employment, education, or training

 

Just like Peter Pan, there’s a growing cohort of Gen Zers who are refusing to grow up and embrace life’s major milestones to adulthood, like getting some form of qualification or joining the world of work.

Instead, they’re opting to become NEETs—not in employment, education, or training—and creating record levels of youth unemployment around the world.

According to the International Labour Organization, about a fifth of people between 15 and 24 worldwide in 2023 are currently NEETs.

In Spain alone, over half a million 15-to-24-year-olds are neither studying nor working. Meanwhile in the U.K., almost three million Gen Zers are now classed as economically inactive—with 384,000 youngsters joining the “workless” class since the Covid pandemic.

The studies don’t delve into what’s inspiring young people to ditch the rat race and opt for a life under their parent’s roof or on public subsidies, but separate research highlights that even if they did start climbing the corporate ladder, buying a home of their own still feels like an impossible task.

Adulthood milestones are seemingly out of reach anyway

Reams of research shows that those in their early 20s are earning less, have more debt and see higher delinquency rates than millennials did at their age.

Credit reporting agency TransUnion found that 20-somethings today are taking home around $45,500, while millennials at their age were earning $51,852 when adjusted for inflation.

Despite earning less, young people today are being forced to dig deep for basic necessities like food, groceries, and gas, thanks to inflation. Meanwhile, house prices have increased more than twice as fast as income has since the turn of the millennium.

This divergence goes a long way in explaining why young people may feel like saving—or even working—towards the future is futile.

As one Gen Zer noted in Fortune: “I’m just focusing on the present because the future is depressing.”

Hustling is so last season

Hustling, girl bossing or “work hard, play harder” just doesn’t quite have the same grip on Gen Z as it did on millennials starting out.

Many young people today would rather protect their well-being than compete their way up the corporate ladder only to not be able to afford the McMansion their parents bought for a fraction of the price.

Even those who do want to work, don’t want a career. Instead, many Gen Zers are eyeing up easygoing jobs that don’t require regular overtime, antisocial working hours, or substantial responsibilities like managing a large team.

Others are avoiding office jobs: The hottest roles right now among Gen Z grads are in teaching, where low pay is balanced with weeks of vacation. Meanwhile, non-grad Gen Zers are picking up the tools and taking up trade jobs in record numbers.

I had the displeasure of experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time last night. I woke up at around 4 am lying on my back with my head propped up slightly with a pillow, a posture that I don't normally lay in. I tried to roll to my side to fall back asleep, but found that I couldn't move a muscle. I started freaking out a little, and put all my effort into moving my arms. My eyes wandered down to this bundle of sheets near what I think was my knees, and I saw them morph and swell into this weird bulbous thing. At this time, it was still super dark, so I couldn't make out exact details, but I'll try to describe it. It was like a flat featureless mask with shifting blobs and specks moving over it. The surface where its face should've been kept undulating like a pond's surface disturbed by falling raindrops.

 

There was no clear indication of malice in this thing's presence, but something about the absurd strangeness of this thing forming before my eyes set something off in my mind. Panic and primal aggression washed over me, and I wanted nothing more than to throttle this fucking thing. But my arms were stuck. My arms, fingers, head, neck, everything. The only thing I could do was stare and hyperventilate as I felt every pounding heartbeat echo through my body. And because of my unusual waking posture, each breathe I took sounded like a loud and violent snore, as if my throat was closing shut. I was reduced to a cornered animal, reduced to a prisoner in m own bed by this weird mask. I didn't know what it was, what it wanted, why it was there, why I couldn't move, or even if it was actually dangerous; but for some reason, I wanted this fucking thing dead. I wanted control over my arms so I could smash it to fucking pieces between my fists. I wanted to see if this thing had a neck for me to squeeze my hands around. It terrified me, and I wanted to kill it.

 

I don't know how much time passed, but eventually I gained the ability to move again. When my locomotive powers returned, the mask vanished and I was alone in my room again in the middle of the night. My rationality soon returned and I debated with myself over whether what I went through was a dream, a hallucination, or something else. I hadn't consumed any alcohol the night prior and I haven't touched anything cannabis related in almost a year, so I eventually came to the conclusion that I experienced a bout of sleep paralysis. To soothe my mind, I put on earbuds and turned on an ASMR video where some nice lady reads bedtime stories. Nothing strange after that.

 

TL;DR I slept on my back and was harassed by Rorschach's bodiless head while I snored really loud and couldn't move. 0/10 never again.
