shadowlord445 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Bethesda is having a presentation for Fallout 4 during QuakeCon, hopefully someone will leak the footage.
Redflyingmonkey Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Their face morph thing during E3 and the way they emphasized "lack of sliders" for the face creation (at least for adjusting head mesh) makes me really think that they finally dumped out FaceGen (and .tri files) for a proper head skeleton and skinning. So who knows, maybe bethesda finally hired competent animators and we'll see not a completely bare skeleton. Didn't they post jobs offers some months back about animators and modellers ? I might've been dreaming though.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 You know what would be a nice mod (and I'm certain this is more than possible). Since Todd said this is what they used to make the NPC faces. A mod somewhat like Alternate Actors, but instead something like SOS where you target the NPC, open up MCM and it brings up the NPCs in a Chargen after you close MCM and you can sculpt away the NPC without having to actually jump from body to body. That would be an interesting mod.
blabba Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Yea, IDK if it's gonna be sculpting like vertex sculpt in RaceMenu (could be though). If it turns out their not using FaceGen, and don't have any alternate types of vertex morph cache files, it'd be a lot harder to implement vertex editing in-game. I was thinking it was gonna be the more common type you see in MMO's like Black Desert Online, where your just manipulating bones that were weighted to the model. Which I also don't mind cuz then maybe it'll teach people how important weighting/skinning properly is
Sacremas Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Might not need one - that "Body" button on the chargen screen - not gonna hold my breath but lets hope it's body morph's Let's hope NOT. Any more Bethesda antics like Skyrim's body scaling and it will be a mesh modding nightmare. Most players don't realize how much work it really is to make an outfit for Skyrim. Anyway, body morphing would require a vanilla skeleton with more than the stock 32 bones (not including the hands and fingers) they normally use. I don't see Bethesda doing Daz3D style genesis morphs for what will realistically be a console game retrofitted back to a pc game. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm right. Otherwise body modding will SUCK in FO4. I dunno man, benefit of having both EE and A tits out in the world to find, shaping your body through bodyslides and such, vs all women having one body and modders needign to do less work? Tough cookie is what I'd say. Realistically I highly doubt that Bethesda would go back on the body slider thing with varying sizes when it would seem regression in technology, especially considering all the mods from CBBE to UUNP that took full advantage of it.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I wish people would just work off the vanilla body when doing edits to it so that every body type out there uses the same UV map. This benefits of people being able to use any freakin armor uploaded. One of the things I don't like about Skyrim. Far too many body stylee, which is fine but they don't use the same UV map and that's the downfall. Why should it be any different than a headmesh and edited one's? They all use the same UV map.
Sacremas Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Not even all headmeshes are the same either, Ningheim race is wildly different headmeshes, to the point where any eyes or brows mods have to be patched to be able to be used with the race.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I've only used OWB Race by Xenia. Not all familiar with custom race mods. But I mean more along replacers. And custom races are not replacers.
Jayce Dimmer Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Yeah, Skyrim clocks my cpu at 37% when it's running. I forgot how ineffcicient Skyrim really is, even with custom optimization tweaks, surplus memory and an above specs video card. And I'm using DirectX 11 now because of other games so I have yet another hope for FO4; that it will use modern software and not shit that was cutting edge 6 years ago. Just going to chime in on this. What we need, is for Bethesda to make use of the low-level APIs. Mantle and/or DirectX 12. When you're down at the river, past Valheim Towers in Skyrim, the game is making at least 5,000 draw calls; and you can feel it in the framerate, supposing you're not using a 5Ghz i5 4690k. Bring on the low level APIs, and we could see some pretty damn amazing mods; multithreaded draw calls + extremely smaller draw call overhead = much goodness.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 The downfall I could see if interiors dont have cells with load screen aka zoning, there could be character AI getting stupid and causing aggro outside depending the radius. I can see this as a potential problem, but this could just be during the pre-war era before the catastrophe happens and you descend into the vault. I hope so at least. If this is true about dynamic volumetric lighting, we will possibly see actual sun rays going through windows instead of generic lighting from previous sequels. That's definitely an upgrade. This also means sun rays through cracks and such from actual sun light.
Kendo 2 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 FO4 is supposed to have weather. I don't see how a Bethesda engine is going to handle the player moving from a raining exterior to a dry interior without a load door or some other mechanism unless they do it with Image Spaces; and that's no great leap forward since modders have been doing that since Oblivion. There was a treehouse mod that did just that.
afa Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 No load screens, but here step through this airlock and this unusually long elevator ride
Redflyingmonkey Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I'd seriously prefer a boring loading screen to a jittery mess of a claustrophobia-inducing corridor or conveniently placed boulders at the entrance of some Vault. For real, I know it works wonders in Witcher 3 but in a Bethesda game you can't just limit the size of interiors just so you can enter it without any loading screen. Loved Witcher 3, yet I still want some huge underground panoramas in FO4 just like those buried castles in Skyrim or gigantic caves, and you just can't do that without a proper loading screen. One of the biggest beef I have with RPGs nowadays really, it's like interiors suddenly become a suitable reason to go back 30 years and transform what was an exploration open world RPG into a Doom-style corridors maze. Once or twice if it fits the lore of the place, alright, but it doesn't mean all caves and all underground spaces have to be corridors with pretty much the exact same layout (which is : "Oh I can go left here... Ah shit another chest ! And of course the fucking walls just had to cave in right behind it, I have to go all the fucking way back now dammit")
Leito86 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 No load screens, but here step through this airlock and this unusually long elevator ride Todd did an interview where he said there will be loading screens albeit not as much as in their previous games. *Edit* Seraching for the article but I couldn't find it in the span of a minute so...*throws hands up in the air
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I doubt FO4 will have huge cathedral caves or large volume rooms in underground complexes. Those things are for fantasy genre games and neither FO3 or NewVegas had them on the scale of Skyrim. And I don't care if there are load screens or not, as long as I don't get rain storms or dust devils in the living room of the scrap house I build I'll be happy.
Redflyingmonkey Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Well actually, don't forget the subway in Boston, and the Vaults which should be way more spacious than those in the mojave desert, also BoS bunkers, Institute underground labs and shit. There is a lot of potential for big underground spaces, just needs to be exploited correctly
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Pretty sure I heard somewhere FO4 will have weather patterns like Skyrim.
Mord Sif Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Todd Howard said: Skyrim is one size, but the mountains take up a lot of space. That’s not really a game place, it’s in your way, you have to go around it But... but, Todd... What happened to "See that mountain? You can climb that" ...?
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 But... but, Todd... What happened to "See that mountain? You can climb that" ...? Someone from Obsidian sneaked in after hours and added all of those collision planes à la New Vegas.
Sacremas Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 How is New Vegas different from Fallout 3 in that regard?
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 NV had collsison planes in petty places like on top of rocks. It was like they were doing everything they could to keep the player moving in one direction and keeping them on ground level. In FO3 it was possible to climb/jump/get on top of rocks for a height advantage. The NV devs did everything they could to prevent that. There are mods that remove the bullshit collision planes in New Vegas, that's how many were placed unnecessarily. And New Vegas is a shit game anyway. I'm glad it's day in the sun is at an end.
Sacremas Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Each to his own, I love it myself and all the stuff Obsidian's made. Played NV way more than I played FO3, and I'd buy a New Vegas 2 or whatever they'd call it that focus on that side of the setting without needing to even see a trailer if it's by Obsidian. Their guys just understands Fallout way better, not surprisingly since many of their team was a part of the Interplay teams that made Fallout 1 and 2.
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I've been told on more than one occasion that I'm not a Fallout fan. I guess I'm not since all I care about is a game with guns that I can mod. Fuck Obsidian, fuck Bethesda. I care as much about Fallout lore as I do ElderAScrolls lore; and that's not at all. Just gimme the goddamned game already.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 People just need to accept the fact Bethesda owns the rights now and live with it. I can understand some are bitter about it, but it is what it is. Can't let Obsidian come in and do their work. Bethesda just has a different vision to go with it. If anything, be mad at Interplay for selling off the rights. I personally didn't like FNV, and that's because I started off with FO3. Think I didn't feel cheated about it? I sure did just like you did with FO3 and possibly FO4. I just hope they don't jump back and forth with this because I really don't want to see another Fallout by Obsidian. I hope my instincts are wrong when I say that I hope they don't do this trend of Bethesda doing the eastern states and Obsidian covering the western states with an expansion like FNV. As for the invisible barrier, it was bad in FNV. OFT was one of the very first essential bug fixes I downloaded back then.
Kendo 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I played Fallout2. It's WinterNights2 with guns, and that's just fucking lame. The ONLY reason New Vegas was made at all was to settle a financial dispute. Obsidian was given a shot at making another Fallout game and in return they got a one-time payment. No more interest in the franchise, no more Obsidian Fallout games. They are DONE. When Todd Howard talks about Fallout it goes from 3 to 4. New Vegas doesn't exist, and it wouldn't have outside of a corporate negotiation. And I'm GLAD Obsidian is out of the picture with their bugged game and their broken GECK. New Vegas wasn't much of a final showing, since without FO3 resources it wouldn't be a game at all. Once I was told, "If you don't like New Vegas and like FO3 then you're not a Fallout fan." My response was. "If New Vegas is Fallout and FO3 isn't, then FUCK FALLOUT." But none of this has anything to do with FO4, other than 'true' Fallout fans bitching and blubbering because Obsidian fucked the dog and lost what little claim they had on the Fallout franchise. FO4 will be a new chapter with a lot of firsts for Bethesda. I'm excited.
