Vioxsis Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geep5q_yFqA#t=76 No more skills, and you pick a perk every level, availability of a perk is based off of your special. That doesn't sound to bad as long as there are no perks like in skyrim where you pick it to get better at sneaking, one handed, bow, etc, you know the stuff increasing stats should have done. Looting and hacking in real time sounds awesome, but the pipboy pauses the game... would have been more interesting if it didn't would make hotkeys more useful, and make you think a little more about preparing your loadout.

I see these things being modding pretty quickly related to the perk tree etc. I believe new perks and reworked older perks will be taken care of. Someone might even create a mod that gives you 2, 3, or even 4 perks per level. I don't see that being a problem. The issues with pausing.. might be nice to have a mod that at least allowed the game to continue when in Hard core mode or an equivalent mode. Leave the pausing for the lower easier settings. Best of both worlds IMO.
RitualClarity Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 There is comments that the feral ghouls will craw through windows.. ..many that is creapy. They also have some special animations. Hope those are better than the original. As for the detailed animations.. I am glad if they include these as the modding community has been doing this for quite some time. It is trivial for a company like Behesda to do this and them not .. is a shame. Hope those are good. Looks almost like everything that has been modded in previous Fallouts that were popular has been dragged into the new game. . As far as species check.. I am very sure that that will happen. Anyway that don't matter as I am sure someone will mod that shortly. . It is at least nice that they are PC and allowing homosexuality. This is a mature game after all and there are individuals that are gamers that are homosexual and why should they be left out of the game? FNV had perks that addressed some of this but now it seems as if they are fully embracing the options. So now my Butch Chick can meet a beautiful raider and live a long and happy life together.. .
Kendo 2 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 ummm Homosexuality isn't "PC" But cramming it down our throats is. Realistically, the player wouldn't be able to romance/marry/whatever every NPC who happens to be in that faction. Some of these NPCs would be gay and some would be straight. Same sex or conventional relationships would be off of the table accordingly. If the player is male and has a favorable relationship with a male NPC, then romance would be an option...if that NPC is gay or bisexual. I guess by Bethesda standards all of the NPCs in that faction are bisexual. I don't use followers for serious role play anyway so it won't matter much to me. Followers are annoying.
afa Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I don't think I like looting and hacking in real time, I want to see what's something is before picking it up. Having pipboy screen then pause the game seems weird. I can see a lot of "take all" looting in combat then inventory screen right after to see what exactly was picked up. Did he mention carry limit will progressively slow down your character rather than being a cut off? Really need to take a closer look at the new perk tree and how does it ties to SPECIAL to say how it will pan out, and if there are ways to improve SPECIAL stats.
Stunami Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I'll be honest in that I'm not expecting great things story wise, mainly because Bethesda seems to have lost all of their writing talent since Oblivion. On the other hand, the power armour gameplay mechanics look amazing.
afa Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I got those bits and pieces from the video, he mention briefly about how strength affects carry weight, but didn't specify if it is a run, walk, stand still cut off or an actual gradual decline of movement speed. And really need to see that perk tree in details to and how the numbers work out. No exact mentions of ways to improve SPECIAL either.
Kendo 2 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Yeah, I think Dr.Li will be in FO4. Bethesda has a thing for that; that Dunmer, Saint Whatever in the Dawnguard Soul Cairn. Knowing Bethesda, Dr.Li will be the FO4 equivalent of Fu Manchu. She'll be the evil genius mastermind of The Institute, or something else equally as lame.
AimoHauki Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Skills gone? That's a major blow. I already knew for sure it's too risky to pre-order but it's looking more and more like paying the full price in general is also a terrible idea. This is a sad day
Kendo 2 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 It will basically be the same thing Skyrim has. Losing skills is no big deal. Still gonna be able to get Gun Nut with ranks, but there will be prerequisit scores to reach first.

I guess that they just got tired of people complaining about this person and that person and why this person isn't this or that. They decided that all are bisexual.. . Less argument. It is the game you want to play.. Not terribly realistic but will make many of those wieners happy.
Kendo 2 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Millennial Gamers "I'm not gay, but I want that option for NPCs because all CG people deserve to be treat as equals." I guess the big FO4 surprise will be the 'Occupy Diamond City Movement'. Oh wait, that's already happened by the looks of it; tents, piles of trash, scroungy looking people with no jobs who think they're better than everyone else...FUCK, all of Fallout is a goddamned Occupy movement.
sora3 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Skills gone? That's a major blow. I already knew for sure it's too risky to pre-order but it's looking more and more like paying the full price in general is also a terrible idea. This is a sad day Skills was a terrible system really. I'm a master at guns and yet there is a bloody odd chance that my gun won't do X damage and miss instead? Fuck that. If I wanted that system, I'd play Divinity or Wasteland 2, not Fallout. Honestly, I'd think Bethesda has made some good choices over 'their' vision of what Fallout 4 is and that's saying something. EDIT: Also thinking about it, this makes the SPECIAL choices even more crucial. Want a woman that's smooth? Go for Charisma. Want a nerd? Go with Intelligence. This might be the first Fallout I might genuinely enjoy.
AimoHauki Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Skills have always been a significant part of Fallout. Ok, so in 1, 2 and Tactics they were more meaningful as Bethesda fucked up in that department pretty much but still. In terms of gameplay it's like dropping the total amount of weapons to like 3. Naturally if you also get additional perks by doing stuff it may significantly lessen the impact.
afa Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 FO 3 and NV skills was totally in control by the player since you get to pick what to raise, and Int was critical to get the most out of each level up. Now if all Int offers is extra exp and if level list is in place once again there's really no reason to have to level quickly. Elimination of skill level would likely push for the return of Rank 1,2,3,4,5 of +X% damage/armor perk that was in Skyrim.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Meh... skills just made the player overpowered. Both in Fallout and Skyrim. I like the approach of buidling your character through the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes. It just makes more sense. Like if you are a sniper you want to make sure you have that Luck up so you can get them critical shots and then follow the perks for Luck like super snap distance shot. Or a nice perk would be two birds, one stone = double head shot =
afa Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Skills alone weren't that powerful in Skyrim, it is the combination of skills and perk and crafting. The problem with SPECIAL is that unless they make some changes to how it works in the past it is fixed pretty much from beginning to end. Bobble heads gave +1, Almost Perfect came later and nullify the whole thing.
Kendo 2 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm looking forward to having more than Magicka, Health and Stamina. Having real stats again will be nice. I just hope they don't dump too much emphasis on one stat.
tazdotnet Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I agree 1: voice adds emotion to dialog you can never get from text allowing the player to understand the character beth created and thus the story they want to tell 2: if anyone is gonna change how dialog choices are displayed it better NOT be a list - I can see wanting to reverse the limit of dialog choices for modding purposes but no 3: no no no no killing the dog is just wrong, no one forces a player to take the dog - why kill him? sick bastards 4: skill points?... really? they didn't just take away skill points they added meaning to the perks so... NO
Vioxsis Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 * I quite like the idea of a protagonist that actually has some depth and speaks. Speaking and depth don't necessarily go hand in hand, i mean all the NPC in the last fallout games could speak and they were all as shallow as a puddle. * I hated listed dialogues if you clicked on one it inevitably went to the wrong dialogue choice unless you were using a console controller. Thats not nice, why would you think modders are as incompetent as bethesda and make the same stupid mistakes? i mean i remember seeing a mod for skyrim that fixed that problem.. * I'm not an asshole that kills pets for shits and giggles and somehow in a perverted way think it's funny. Well if your not an 'asshole' then why do you need the dog to be invincible? Don't tell me your going to beat it for hours knowing it won't die?!! Thats sick, what kind of monster are you?? But seriously that part about making the dog killable just means it can die and not just go down on one knee before getting back up. Making companions none essential in general. * that's just silly, why on earth do you want everything the same as the last game that you continually bitch about? so you can bitch about it in the new game? Because the new system doesn't sound very appealing? Having ranked perks.. sneak was listed as one so i would see it as a safe guess that all the skills have been made into perks. So now on level up i will need to pick pointless boring perks and not only once but multiple times.. It looks as though instead of fixing the downfalls of skyrims skill/perk system they just got rid of skills.. Then the part that its tied to your special, this sounded good until it was mentioned that it would just make some perks easier/quicker to get and others harder/slower to get, meaning that after getting to a high enough level you will be a god who can do anything and everything... In short it just makes any choice you make mean very little or how you play mean even less. After all we will just be collecting the letters of the alphabet just not necessarily in the same order. just my thoughts on that subject. and don't go getting all offended, it isn't directed at anyone it is nothing but my own choice because in the end I am the one paying for my game. I hope you take my response the same way. Until i heard how the skill/perk system worked i was looking forward to the game but now i feel i can wait. Well as long as i can get what ever crappy models i make in game..
the_mess Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't see the problem with the dog being mortal. I think ANY character in the game - human, animal, mutant, etc. should be mortal. Maybe, except some major characters in dangerous areas that can prevent the player from progressing, but otherwise I don't want to see immortal characters in my game.
Mord Sif Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 1: voice adds emotion to dialog you can never get from text allowing the player to understand the character beth created and thus the story they want to tell That's certainly an advantage from a story point of view, but the flip side is that we'll be playing a "character beth created" and not so much one we created. That's one thing having a voiced protagonist does. It makes your character less your own and reduces your freedom to decide for yourself who they are and how they speak. Many of my characters inject enormous amounts of emotion into their dialogue, for example, and they do it in differing ways and to differing degrees depending on the character, even sometimes on the exact same line. It's all down to your interpretation of how they speak, which is something we won't be able to do in Fallout 4. I'm not necessarily coming down on one side or the other on this, though. I'm open-minded and looking forward to seeing how it turns out when we can play the game. I admit that I find the idea of a voiced protagonist in a Bethesda RPG very strange and would probably rather he or she had remained silent, but not all change is bad and this might work out nicely.
Mord Sif Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Yeah I agree with that. You have to change and try new things, otherwise you're always making the same games and they'll get boring. ...But is it too much to ask for a developer to read my mind and not change the things I like?
SpleenSerene Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Can anyone confirm if F4 will have wooded areas?
