Np glad I could help. As for what was wrong.. basically, it was just a missing line of code. I converted it to a readable format, copied the code from a working animation then adjusted the timing of the sound to match the animation.

I'm using some walk/run animations that I'm pretty sure came from Dragonfly at some point in the distant past. The footstep timing is approximately 9/10 of a step late in all cases. I would like to correct the step timing, but I can't find any info on how to do so. I would very much appreciate it if some kind soul would point me toward some information on how footstep timing is specified/governed in SSE animations and how I can correct it. Thanks.

Wow, I did that so long ago I barely remember how I did it, but if I remember correctly I used a tool to extract the code from the hkx file and make the change in notepad. I definitely don't remember what it was called and I don't still have it on my computer still so you'll have to do some research. Try looking for "hkx extractor" or "havoc animation extractor" something like that. Once you've opened it up you can compare the code to an animation with a working step and go from there.

I don't know if any of this will help but I wish you luck.

Yeah, I kinda necro'd your post. :classic_wacko: Anyway, thanks for the response, I found stuff like this but no help on where the footstep timing is stored or what the values are etc. Mostly 3DS Max stuff. I'll keep trying my Google-fu.

So...is there anyway to make these sounds louder?

You can turn up the FX in your Skyrim System Settings.

There is a Footsteps slider in the System Settings Audio tab. Not the Effects ("FX") tab. Yours is probably turned off or way down.

Also, the fact that you can hear some Heels sounds OK but not all of them suggests that you may not have successfully installed all of the Heels Sounds audio files, or some update or new mod has overwritten some of them - as you can see below, there should many, many subfolders containing hundreds of files. Check to make sure you have them all- the easiest way to do that is simply to reinstall Heels Sound and give it priority ("load after") everything else that Vortex pops up a conflict warning about.

This is simply not true- I'm using 360 Movement Behavior and Heels Sound. The two mods are not even remotely capable of being in conflict since one of them adds only wav files for sound effects and the other adds only behavior files for animations. It's like saying a schoolbus 3000 miles away from you is interfering with your lasagna- just not possible.

Oh, this is possible !

I've added heels sounds to other armors and never had a problem, but what if a boot or shoe doesn't have the SNDD - Footstep Sound field? I recently downloaded the Latex Witch outfit and I would love the long boots to have the heels sounds but when I try to change it the Armor Addon doesn't have that field after it lists all of the different NPC races like it does on other mods. The weird thing is that it still makes the vanilla sound when you wear it. I'm not advanced enough to figure out how to add that field I guess is what I'm saying.

Hey, I'm trying to add heels sound to some heels (duh)

and when I follow the instructions and everything, I get this error when trying to set SNDD - Footstep Sound to the Footstep Set from Heels Sound.esm

Error.png.f1340ef3beaae33654ad5188b03947bd.png

I don't know what I'm doing wrong (or if its even something I am doing)

And it works fine with other ESPs, I just cant add it to this ESP

(also, im using SSEEdit if that matters)

Don't worry, it's not anything you're doing wrong- it's something you're wrongly not doing. :classic_tongue:

You skipped the step in the instructions that says to add Heels Sound.esm as a Master to Nier Automata.esp. You might want to start over and this time follow all the steps in the instructions. :classic_biggrin:

Also, because you didn't mention which (whose) instructions you're trying to follow, here, once again, are mine:

Spoiler

To reassign the Plugin-designated Footstep Sound (SNDD) in the Armor Addon of a pair of high heels:

  1. Launch SSEEdit

  2. Right-click anywhere in the list of plugins in the left pane, and select "Select None"

  3. Tick the little box next to Heels Sound.esm in the list of plugins in the left pane

  4. Tick the little box next to your high-heels mod's plugin in the list of plugins in the left pane

  5. Click OK to load both plugins. SSEEdit will also load Skyrim.esm and SkyrimSE.exe, and possibly one of the DLCs

  6. If this is NOT the first pair of heels in your mod's plugin that you have added the Heels Sound Footstep Set to, skip to Step 11

  7. Right-click on the name of your high-heels plugin and click "Add Masters"

  8. Tick "Heels Sound.esm" in the popup display of possible new Masters - it should be the only available choice

  9. Click OK to add Heels Sound.esm as a Master to your high-heels mod

  10. Click "Yes, I'm sure" when SSEEdit asks if you are sure you want to edit the plugin

  11. Expand Heels Sound.esm by clicking on the little box next to it in the left pane

  12. Expand Footstep Set by clicking on the little box next to it in the left pane

  13. Make a note of the FormID of the Heels Sound Footstep Set- probably 01004527 but the first 2 digits may vary if SSEEdit loaded any of the DLCs

  14. Contract ("close up") Heels Sound.esm by clicking on the little box next to it in the left pane

  15. Expand your high-heels mod's plugin by clicking on the little box next to it in the left pane

  16. Expand Armor Addon by clicking on the little box next to it in the left pane

  17. Click on the Armor Addon of a pair of shoes in the left pane

  18. Scroll all the way down to "SNDD - Footstep Sound" at the bottom of the right pane *

  19. Right-click on the name of whatever footstep sound is currently assigned and select Edit**

  20. If you skipped Steps 7-10, click "Yes, I'm sure" when SSEEdit asks if you are sure you want to edit the plugin

  21. Carefully enter the FormID of Heels Sound's Footstep Set from Step 8- probably 01004527

  22. Click OK. The name of the Footstep Sound should now be "AngelFSTHeelsFootstepSet" - if it's not, go back to Step 14

  23. Repeat Steps 12-17 for each additional pair of heels to which you want to assign the Heels Sound Footstep Sound

  24. Close SSEEdit by clicking on the red X at the top-right corner of the SSEEdit window

  25. Make sure the name of your plugin is selected for backup, and that "Backup Plugins" is ticked, then click OK

*In the rare case where there is no SNDD block at all, you will have to add one. The only way I have found to do that is with the CK:

  1. Make sure that Heels Sound.esm is already a Master of your mod's plugin (Steps 1-10 above using SSEEdit)
  2. Launch the CK and wait for it to finish loading everything
  3. Find your mod's plugin- you can get to it quickly by typing the first few letters of its name into the Search box at the top
  4. Double-click on "Armor Addon" to expand it- a list of every AA in the game, ordered by name, displays on the right
  5. Find and double-click your mod's boots in the AA list
  6. Click the right-hand end of the "Footstep Set" dropdown at the bottom left to expand it
  7. From the dropdown list, click "Angel Step Footstep Set" which should be the first one displayed (because alphabet)
  8. Repeat Steps 5-7 for any remaining boots in your mod's plugin
  9. Click the Save icon (a diskette) at the top left of the CK display
  10. Close the CK

**If there is an SNDD block BUT there is no data in it and the SNDD label is grayed out, do this before Step 19:

  1. Right-click the blank area to the right of the grayed-out SNDD label

  2. Click "Add"

  3. Accept the warning if it pops up

You will now have a new "Null" data field, so proceed with Step 19.

Here's a sample of what you will hear once you do the above edits:

Ahhh, thank you so much

Im still rather new to SSEEdit, and thought it would automatically set it as a master when I add the sound

Works great now, thanks!

(not sure why other ESPs worked despite not using heelsound before though)

You seem to be implying that adding the Heels Sound Angel Step Footstep Set to other high heels mod plugins worked without adding Heels Sound.esm as a Master to the mod's plugin first. It didn't. That cannot possibly work unless Heels Sound was already a Master of whichever mod esp's you're talking about, in which case it would already have had the Angel Step Footstep Set- Heels Sound is a one-trick mod and there can not be any possible reason to add it as a Master to any plugin except to allow the Angel Step Footstep Set to be added to the plugin.

You jus' forgot- you forgot to follow the instructions carefully, you forgot to add the Master this time, and you forgot having done so in each and every prior successful attempt. There's medicines for that, Grandpa Moose... :classic_biggrin: :classic_tongue: :classic_heart:

I know for a fact that I haven't done it before, not that I forgot

But I will admit it is possible the ESPs I tried might have already had it (just not for the specific shoe I tried it on)

(also, ngl, I actually did forget to take my medicine today (anti depressants), and that just reminded me)

You know, you're right- I actually hadn't thought about that possibility. Generally, when I go to all the trouble of dealing with SSEEdit or the CK, I tend to do it all or go home. So the case where (for example) one pair of boots has the Angel Footsteps added while another pair in the same plugin does not :classic_wacko: doesn't occur in my little world, mainly because I'm lazy- creating a new Master for any plugin has the potential to change its preferred load order, which means I have to re-deploy all my mods in Vortex AND potentially rebuild my Bashed Patch in Wrye Bash.

Not explicitly, no- there is no "female only" tag in Heels Sound. However, as a practical matter, you could do it implicitly by creating a patch to add Heels Sound to any vanilla footwear that is flagged for females only- which is a very, very tiny fraction of the boots in Skyrim. In fact, I can't think of any right off the top of my head.

TL; DR: Nope.

What about the bottom of your feet? In my experience that is a more likely place to find shoes and boots.

It's not nice to mock a girl's fashion choices, Mr. Cloud. It's MY game and I'll damn well wear my heels any way I want to.

So just BACK THE FUCK OFF and we won't have any trouble here, OK?

She's heels over head.
