Sometime in meetings, I find myself in this same pose. Brad Dourif as the twisted Mentat Piter de Vries in Dune. | Dune frank herbert, Dune film, Dune

LOL, that takes me back (Piter De Vries - Brad Dourif). Great film if you've read the books and know the story.

You're right - bet it's tough if you don't know it though.

There's a lot of side references (like CHOAM) which wouldn't mean anything to someone that hadn't read it and huge chunks of the book are missing as well. Though I'm amazed how much David Lynch was able to get in such a short film ( a bit over 2 hours) considering the size of the book.

I did show it to my mother one Christmas and she enjoyed it, mostly I think because of the photography, good cast and atmosphere which it captures well, and she was well into her seventies then. I was a little surprised, as even at her age then she could pick the logic in films apart with the precision of a surgeon (you never watched an action film with her, you'd get a running commentary on how "this or that is impossible etc etc").

Which film is it? I'm a big fan of Lynch but don't recognise that image.

It's Dune (from the book by Frank Herbert). Music's pretty good too, score by Brian Eno and a Toto track to finish on the credits.

Cast is really good (as you'd expect from De Laurentiis), Jurgen Prochnow, Max Von Sydow, Francesca Annis, Sian Phillips, Patrick Stewart etc..

Here the Wiki entry for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(1984_film)

But be warned, if you're not familiar with the book it may not make much sense as cramming a 600+ page book into a short film is difficult

Ah, I've seen the film but I'd forgotten it was Lynch (if I ever knew it). Also read the books way back when but they were not my thing. I prefer fantasy to sci-fi.

How am I going to get past this locked cage door?

:classic_ohmy: Careful! There's a wispmother behind that broken wall! And her loyal ice wraiths.

Better read the hidden book, a few steps ahead. .. if that's possible with that black fashion of yours :classic_unsure:
